I just got a pre-owned Mirage. It was a mixed experience. The rig itself was in great shape and even had new risers and freebag. OTOH, the webpage is erroneous. Mirage no longers offers that discount. When I asked about it, the Mirage sales rep said that that program was discontinued. She did say though that she thought there'd be a decent discount because the rig was used and was two years old. When I got the rig, I found an invoice showing that Mirage had only discounted the rig 10%. In retrospect, I'd do business with Mirage again, but I'd make sure that I had any promised discounts spelled out in writing before I ordered. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

If you are talking about Skydive Playa, jumpers from my home DZ have nothing but great reviews for it. Yes, their business focus is tandems but my friends say that they are more than willing to take fun jumpers. One of the guys there is also an awesome still photographer. I've got friends with an incredible picture of them sit flying, over Playa's beach, hanging over their mantle. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Not sure. Someone told me today that the local casinos have a strong history of supporting Native American athletes so I'm going to see if I can get some sponsorship for Nationals. Should be easier than scheduling a trip to South America to sell a organ. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Had a case of beer moment last night as I assembled and packed my new Safire 2 for the first time. I intially started out with a psycho-pack, but when it came time to roll up the canopy, I just could not get the roll started. Every time I tried, it felt like I was trying to fold a flat, rigid plate. I made multipe tries but eventually gave up after the fabric had slid around enough to make me loose confidnece in the pack job. Is there any tips experienced psycho packers can give me for getting the roll started? Also, is psycho packing that big of a deal for a Safire 2? I was able to pro pack the thing pretty easily for being 269 sf of new zp, so if it's not crucial, I could just keep pro packing . -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Discusion: What if TSO's were eliminated?
BlindBrick replied to diablopilot's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'm not talking about established companies with proven reputations. I am talking about the stuff that some unscrupulous riggers put out the door, or sub-stnadard stuff that might be created by inexperienced start-ups if the regs were loosened. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." -

They may not be directly out to kill you, but never underestimate the corners people will cut while under the influence of greed. Then there's a ton of ideas that "looked good on paper". As a rigger, I've seen examples from both categories. Some kind of regulation is needed. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." -
I've found that a pair can be "winterized" in a couple of minutes by usign a thin layer of sealer (i used expoxy) over the vent holes. The holes are on the sides of the fingers so you don't mess with the dexterity and as logn as you are just covering the holes rather than the entire finger, you do not decrease the flexibility. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

I use Mechanix brand mechanic's glvoes. They are light, tough, and give reasonably good sense of touch. They run about $20 US. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

I really respect the dedication and showmanship that goes into precision flight teams, but thier "close" maneuvers aren't near as impressive after you watch the show from off-angle and realize just how much seperation they usually have. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Do they still produce Dad's up in Canad? In the US, PespsiCo dropped Dad's for Mug (blech ) in the early 90's. If you still have Dad's, I might have to take back all those snide comments about "hockey stick-weilding barbarians! -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." -
Bullfighting has to be one of the most barbaric events ever. Yeah, but you get steak when it's all said and done so it balences. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

I don't know if they still do, but Gath used to have literature that stated the sole purpose of the helmet was to protect your head from spray. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Bayblon is the team not the helmet. As mentioned it's a Gath. http://www.gathsports.com/cart/index.php?product=RV -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

My school is a liberal arts college and they force us to take 16 hours of mostly-useless junk in order to obtain the "liberal arts experience". Like I said most of the stuff is totally useless. This semester though, I've had to take a class called Pschology of Political Thought. The teachers goal is not to explain how the system works, but rather train us in the tenets of Skepticism so that we can atttempt to objectively view what we perceive. So, I went in to F9-11 with my eyes opened a bit. WOW I'm a registered Dem and most certainly not voting for Bush, but, DAMN, that was embarrasingly painful to watch. Just about every trick we were ever taught in class was used by Moore to skew the presentation and manipulate the audience's emtions/reactions. What's really sad is that it could have been an incredibly powerful film, but instead ended up as something that Shakespeare might describe as "...a tale told by an idiot. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." (MacBeth 5:5) -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

First, I will admit that I am a Vigil user, however; I think this bulletin raises a couple of valid points. OTOH, as someone professionally trained in business, most of of these reasons seem to be little more than more than nitpicks designed to justify protectionism for a domestic company that enjoys a defacto monoply in the sport AAD market. What I find most troubling is that the valid points of this bulletin could have justified it months ago rather than now as a significant competitor is starting to gain marketshare. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Who makes the best and most efficient collapsible slider?
BlindBrick replied to freeflyfree's topic in Gear and Rigging
IF you can find one with the proper tools, a rigger can put new grommets on for a fraction of the cost of a new slider. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." -

First, let me be honest and upfront, I am a Vigil jumper. I was helping the staff at Skydive Moab do gear checks at registration for the MOAB boogie when we came across a Cypres that the jumper reported had spontaneously turned on a day or two before and had not turned itself off since. We tried to cycle the power so that we coudl force the unit to self-test (ie at start up), but the unit would not power down. My literature from Airtech says that the unit is supposed to reguarly self-test itself and shut down in the presence fo an error, but obviously this unit didn't. So, despite most peoples' perceptions, the Cypres is not bullet-proof. Having said that, I feel that the unit functions at a level beyond what most people consider reasonably safe. -Blind "If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."
