Stiletto's are not hard opening canopies, and I rarely hear of them 'spinning up.' I think you'd be happy with one. As far as the Racer goes, well I wouldn't say they're THE most freefly friendly rig out there, but in Sid's defense, they are a breeze for packing a reserve There are pros and cons, if you do a search in the gear and rigging forum, you'll find tons of info. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

high performance canopies/reasons for cutaways
brits17 replied to dropzonefool's topic in The Bonfire
Ok I'll start. ~900 jumps w/ no main malfunction, yet. Hooked up main to new risers and the toggle keepers were fairly loose. I decided to jump it anyway. One of the toggles came unstowed upon opening, and away we go. I was spinning at a high rate of speed on my back and inducing line twists. Cutaway, took a delay and an had an uneventful opening reserve. The very next jump, I hooked the main back up to my old risers and go figure, as I'm pulling the slider down I unstow one toggle. Since this is a wee parachute, it starts spinning me fast again. Fortunately I could just unstow the opposite toggle and everything's gravy again. I take extreme caution now every time I pull the slider down my risers . The main parachute is a vx60 loaded at 2.1:1 _______________________ aerialkinetics.com -

How far have you come since your 1st post?
brits17 replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hehe, great thread. First post June 2001. Been skydiving for a year, bout 200 jumps. Just left oklahoma for Houston otters. 800 skydives since, 100 base, rigging, downsized 49 sq feet, stopped skysurfing. Thats all i can think of as far as jumping goes. Its been a fun and educational road I hope to continue. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com -
hence, body armor and hanwags... i'm set. and i did stick the landing, unlike some other two doing some fancy maneuvering... _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Thats what I'm sayin... 300 ft B tonight, once again, I feel better. The workers on the 2nd floor said they didn't mind us parachuting, so its all good. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Whoops, misworded I meant mine was the 2nd canopy he tried this 'experiment' on. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Mmm. Any idea where I can get the specs for that mod? See above and read my post. You'll see who did the mod. I know my canopy's only the second he'd done this for, not sure if the specs have changed since. Mind as well send him a PM. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

It was the perfect canopy for me to significantly improve my learning curve as far as canopy flight is concerned. Jumped a Safire 109 from jumps 100-500. I jumped the original trim until I had around 300 jumps on the canopy, then Derek asked if he could modify the upper control lines. I agreed and I noticed a couple significant differences. The first being the openings. Whereas I had to roll the nose to slow it down, now I left the nose exposed and it consistently had a nice long ~800 ft snivel. Secondly I realized the response to toggle inputs weren't as noticeable. A little disappointed that I may now be lacking performance, upon more experimentation I found that this didn't make a difference on anything I considered important, like swooping distance. When it came time to land, the canopy seemed to generate more lift. I'm sure this is due to Derek lengthening the outer cascade, making the tail 'flare' evenly versus having the outside corners only cave in. Overall I loved the canopy. Toward the end of my experience with it, I could really dial in the front riser carves which led to great distance results. I loaded it at 1.2. The guy I sold it to a couple years ago loads it around 1.5-1.6. He's flown birdman in it many times and usually experiences good openings and great swoops (although it now needs a new line set). Gentle enough to bring it straight in and conservative, and enough versatility to surf some turf if so desired. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

I think I've always had lots of 'boy' clothes going on in my wardrobe, skydiving was just another excuse to wear shorts and a t-shirt. I do like to dress nice though, I've got to be in the mood for it. Make-up generally sucks however, its like I forget its there if I have it on. I'll end up smearin it all over the place by picking my nose, or sobbing at a sappy movie or something of the likes. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

You're right, its never irrelevant. I was just trying to make the point that in this circumstance, I believe a multi should function regardless of delay time if set up properly. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

My educated guess is Mr Corliss, summer '05. Interesting topic/thread. I will say I'm rootin for him all the way. Looks like he's flyin the Vampire suit, and they're rackin up some killer numbers as far as vertical:horizontal speeds are concerned. If its to be done, Jeb is the man. Looks scary, sketchy, and nail biting, but I have a feeling he's confident in his skills and project team to pull this off incident free. He stresses that issue. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

I saw the entire jump clearly from the ground as well, plus several times on video. He *may* not have taken a complete 1 second, but it was damn close. Besides, the delay should be almost irrelevant if he set up the gear properly. Huh? Are you saying that all jumps should require at least a second delay?... And if you had seen the jump or video, once again, he clearly did not release his PC prematurely. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
