That article he wrote for the home page was bloody good too. Made me think and realize that I am not ready to try BASE (and might never be). It was really informative and well written. Should I decide to try it next year, I now have a very clear idea of how to prepare beforehand. Good work Tom! Will

If that seemed a little harsh to you, then why did you cross-post it here? I didn't read the pilot who wrote that original piece's full name or credentials. Not flaming you man, but by cross-posting that here you are only serving to spread the rumours and gossip about that incident. I don't attach too much credibility to a story that ends with : Seems to me that this 'john' character seems to have a bit of a personal grudge against the helicopter pilot (Rod Tinney) involved in the incident. Either way, he wasn't there either and I'm not terribly interested in reading his anonymous slander. Will

Yep, I am totally for democracy, if only Zimbabwe could have what South Africa does now (ie a working democracy thanks in no small measure to Mandela). But you can't tell me that Mugabe staying in power for almost two decades with his record of civil rights abuses is democracy. What I also found really sad was that the first white farmer to get killed actually bought the land from a black farmer using a loan from a black bank AFTER the war had ended. Dunno how Mugabe justified that one... Also pretty ironic that a lot of these war 'veterans' claiming the farms are teenagers, ie they weren't even born when the war ended!!! But there isn't any oil in Zimbabwe so don't expect the west to get too upset. (now Angola on the other hand...)

Hi Tom I did read the whole thing, but I tend to believe the following (taken from that article) : I don't believe these artists motives are entirely altruistic. I strongly suspect that they are taking advantage of the situation to make money and further their careers. Maybe it is just human nature, or maybe these artists really do care more about this (and other) tragedies than their own careers. I'm still not convinced though and feel that this is crass exploitation of a vulnerable (record buying!) public. Perhaps using 'fucking idiot' was too strong an expression to describe the average consumer, maybe I should've left it as 'idiot'.

OK, could one of you liberal types please explain the following to me : Robert Mugabe the 'democratic' leader of Zimbabwe (for almost two decades...) evicted 2 900 white farmers off their land last night. Their farms are now being sub-divided. They have been prevented from farming all their land for the last two years. Zimbabwe (and the entire region) is now in the grip of a famine and holding out their hands to the West for food aid. Three years ago those farmers were producing more than enough to feed the country and sell the surplus to neighbouring countries. Their tobacco crops brought in valuable foreign trade for the country. So far 11 farmers have been killed. But I suspect the west's only reaction will be to send food aid. Same as with Rwanda (and so many other country's in Africa), the West won't interfere in the same way they did in South Africa. I guess as long as the country is being screwed over by a black dictator that makes it OK in western liberals' eyes...

Yep, but it isn't as if this sort of nonsense doesn't happen everywhere. Earlier this week two young girls were kidnapped in the UK. A british newspaper is now offering £1million for information leading to their return. Police are now being swamped with false leads by money whores, hampering the investigation. I suspect that the newspaper was more interested in selling papers using the '£1million reward' headline than in the safe return of the girls. Anybody who can't see through this sort of shallow exploitation of public sentiment for financial gain (ie selling newspapers or albums) is a fucking idiot.

Bet you find an RJ11 port a tight fit!!!
-
Problem is, you will want a PAL compliant camera, not NTSC. Plus if you buy it in the states and then have problems with it in the UK you might have difficulties as far as the warranty and service agreements are concerned.

Go to the patch panel in your comms room and start unplugging and plugging in cables at random, then remove all the stickers from the panel with the numbers on them. Patch the company's fax through to the MD's phone. Replace the muzak CD that people listen to when put on hold on your phone system with Eminem and then turn the volume waaaay up.

Lyric taken from the Nr. 1 selling album in the USA last week . What a load of jingoistic horse-shit! Is there anything people won't do to sell albums? And now I suppose anybody who points out the obvious crass exploitation will be labeled a 'traitor' or 'anti-American'. What scares me the most is that this is probably Dubya's favourite album... THE JOKE THREAD ***Highly Offensive Jokes within!!!!***
skreamer replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
I take it the above still applies? -
That seems like quite a good idea - a dedicated BASE forum on dz.com. I appreciate that I should've posted to the Suggestions forum initially, could a moderator type please move this thread to that forum? Thanks Will

OK, it is quite obvious that we (the skydiving community at large) are generally quite pro BASE jumping (especially seeing as how most (all?) BASE jumpers started out as skydivers). That said, should BASE incidents and fatalities be posted on this, essentially a skydiving forum? Not knocking anybody here, but I just wonder how the good people on BLINC would feel if every skydiving incident/fatality was posted on their forum. Personally, I lurk BLINC and one day I would like to make 2 BASE jumps, but I come to dz.com to read about skydiving. If I want to stay on top of BASE news I read BLINC. I don't think this is the appropriate place to be posting BASE incidents. Will

Uhhh, dude, you forgot about us sheep lovers....

What, does Emma have RSI from wanking too??? Just a family of tossers, aren't you?
-
That is no way to talk about Remi's wife!!! Say Remi, need someone to look after your place while you are gone? (house party guys and everybodies invited!! )
-
Where did he say he wanted to get 'layed' by a woman? I think you assume too much...
-
Hope you don't get too disillusioned when you find out that this isn't true...
-
Hmmm yes, the coroner says the following : So, he chose to jump in those conditions and now somehow the rescue team is to blame for this??? You only need to look at how many of the fjord BASE fatalities are foreigners to understand why the Norwegians are getting (rightfully!) fucked off. This sort of thing will only bring in legislation and mess up BASE jumping for them in their own country. Will

Plus, where are you going to find a wig big enough to fit over your hat???
-
Uhh Zennie have you actually looked at their web-site? I met both the Wiggaz in Sweden - trust me its all good. Steve "O" Utter and the Flyboyz were happy to jump with them and get issued Wiggaz numbers. I think its a great piss-take on both the Freefly Circus and all the white boy Eminem wannabes at the same time - hopefully people can appreciate that (along with the wig connotation itself). That said, if any PC type should take offence, I don't think these guys will lose too much sleep. I can remember skyhawk taking major shit over the word 'wiggaz' a while back, but this is in an entirely different context. Will PS I'm already registered for their festival and am looking forward to a weekend that I definitely won't remember!!

You can just kiss my sorry ass until that day comes!!

The rigs NICE, but who is the dork strapped to it???
-
Did he represent South Africa in some international flying competition in Turkey? If it is the same guy, then I understand your loss. Spoke to him round the braai a couple of times last year - such a chilled-out nice guy. I read that his ashes will be spread over the DZ, I'm sure he had some wonderful times there and you guys are all left with wonderful memories of him. My condolences to his family. Will

Here's a pic of SteveO Utter chowing during the same shoot. A swedish guy and I had to dive in and help him out of the river. Steve Utter has to be one of the nicest people I have ever met (not just in skydiving)
