Korea and Vietnam happened as a result of the Cold War. Nato had some very good reasons for getting involved in the Serbo-Croat crisis (as in they understandably didn't want that conflict spreading to Europe). If the world needs a super-power to keep stability and protect us from maniacs like Bin Laden then fine. But you can't police selectively, ie ignore genocide in one country, while rushing to the aid of another country (which happens to be oil-rich) on *humanitarian* grounds. That kind of hypocrisy makes me sick. When people see images of little kids starving in Africa they get all upset and send money. When one tribe decides to wipe out another tribe in Africa, the world stands back and doesn't interfere in their *domestic affairs*. If you sit back and wait for legal action to run its course (yeah right), you will have a nation suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. And I'm sorry but looking at the pathetic mess that is the Lockerbie trial, I have zero confidence in a legal settlement to this.

skyhawk, what you are doing now is rationalizing and dragging this out unnecessarily. Imagine if most of the people on this forum were South African and not American. Imagine then that some young skydiver from another country posted to this forum asking about 'waffirs' (ie white kaffirs). How do you feel a black South African skydiver would feel reading that? As it is, I think you received remarkably mature responses to an incredibly stupid thread. This is exactly what pyke did not want when he started this thread. You took what I said about Jessica, Pammi and Tee ganging up on me totally out of context. Part of being a man is accepting when you have fucked up, making a sincere apology where and to whom appropriate and then learning from the experience and not repeating the mistake. Donna's right! I got some good news. My brother-in-law was supposed to fly from San Francisco to Amsterdam, with a stop-over in Boston this morning. He was flying United. My sister emailed me to say that his flight was grounded just in time at SFO, or they would have flown into that mess. Plus, I don't even want to think about if he had been on an earlier flight.... I'm really relieved, but at the same time I really feel for all those people in America (and all over the world) who have lost family and those who are still waiting for news. I don't consider myself a very emotional person, but I saw news footage of somebody jumping from the 100th floor of the WTC to escape flames - this really shook me and has left me feeling quite sick. Man, this is really fucked up. I heard about those people jumping from the building, and also felt sick when I thought about the passengers and crew in those hijacked planes. I hope the emergency services can get in there through that mess and start clearing rubble and saving lives. I hope the scum responsible for this are hunted down soon and dealt with. I have a muslim Arab friend (he's Syrrian), we have house-shared for over two years now. He and his family are thoroughly honourable decent people, and he is a good friend. I really respect PT, Aviattr, Speedracer etcs. attitudes : get the scum responsible but don't make this a racist/xenophobic issue.
