It can be turned off on the K10D. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

I own a K10D and wouldn't buy anything but a Pentax. Been using Pentax since the 80's. The great thing about Pentax digital is that if you have a good number of Pentax k mount lenses (as I do), you can still use them on your digital. This also is true with any of the 645 lenses, with an adapter ring. The K10D is an amazing camera and extremely comfortable to hold as well as function as the dials to control shutter speed and aperture are placed for thumb and forefinger control. The weather seals make it especialy suited for skydiving (I haven't yet jumped mine but, plan to soon) as does the dust removal function for automatic cleaning of the ccd. For a camera of such high quality you would expect to pay over $1000.00 for the body alone. When it first hit the market, it was above $1000.00 but, Pentax went a step further after recieving so many great reviews they greatly rduced the cost to under $800.00 and did this with a lens added in. My cost, from B&H was $787.95. With the $100.00 rebate from Pentax, the end cost was $687.95. You can't beat that for such a high quality camera in the 10+mp range. My opinion (and yes it is bias as I own Pentax 35mm's and a 645), Pentax is simply the finest camera made (I did have a Canon AE1 back in the very early 80's. It too, was a great camera). Why everyone is so hooked on the Canon seems to be that it has gotten more exposure on dz's over other brands. Canon is a great camera but, the Pentax K10D is everything the Canon is and more. Go ahead and get the K10D! You'll be glad you did! "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

From everything I've read it really seems that these 3 were railroaded into prison by a court that only wanted a conviction and not the truth. Sad how they talk so highly of DNA evidence when it sways in the favor of the prosecutor but rebuked when it doesn't. Justice wasn't served in that court. LITTLE ROCK (AP) - About a hundred supporters of three men convicted in the 1993 sexually charged slaying of three 8-year-old boys gathered this morning in front of the state Capitol. Backers of Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols and Jessie Misskelley, known to sympathizers as the West Memphis Three, unfurled a banner of postcards asking for the men to be freed. The postcards, from as far away as The Netherlands, also showed skylines of Chicago, Cleveland and Portland, Oregon, as well as a silhouette of Florida, outlining the wide interest the case has drawn over the years. Kody Bradshaw, a 19-year-old from Gurdon, says he and his mother have bought T-shirts and bracelets that contributed to a legal defense fund for the Three. Among the supporters to be on hand today is Dixie Chicks member Natalie Mains. --- Governor Beebe says the courts will have to address concerns of supporters of the three men, convicted as teenagers of the killings in West Memphis. Supporters of Baldwin, Echols and Misskelley claim prosecutors and a small-town police force pursued the three because of the teens' interest in heavy metal music and the occult. Attention from celebrities has helped the three raise money for their appeals, which include new DNA testing. An appeal filed in October indicates much of the physical evidence failed to yield reportable DNA results. However, on evidence that could be tested, court filing show the lab found no traces of the three convicted for the slaying. Governor Beebe says he won't commute the sentences of the three or grant them pardons. The governor says the three can seek relief through the courts. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. Where's the proof that all of the victims were defenseless? How many of the victims were merely innocent people and not active criminals/gang members themselves? Considering that the mass majority of murder victims are killed by loved ones or friends (DoJ statistics), would it be best to arm against those you know? Then a citizen should be able to make a citizens arrest when a cop curses them. I've had cops cuss me out. I've had cops call me names and shove me. Nothing I can do but make a complaint which the cops would merely file in the waste basket. The kid in St. George, Mo. has the right idea, video cameras to capture everything the cops do. There are some very good cops but, there are also some major assholes who have no business being a cop or even having a taser much less a gun. Did you watch the video that I provided a link to? That cop was clearly an asshole and there are many more like him. That kid did absolutely nothing wrong but was threatened and berated by an out of control asswipe. After watching that, I should wire my van with cameras, just in case. Hell, I have video of a cop telling me, in not so nice terms, to turn my camera off while I was taking video at the scene of a cop shooting. St. Ann, Mo. police shot a kid who ran from them after he stole a car. Sure, the kid stole a car but, he had no weapon, never threaten them but, the cop saw it to be his duty to kill the kid. Judge, jury, executioner. I told the cop that I have every right to take video and continued to shoot. He came at me, telling me to turn the fucking thing off. What an asshole. Knowing what I know of the St.Ann police, these assholes will knock the crap out of a person. Much like a number of the police forces around St.Louis, they hire thugs who should never be allowed to uphold the law as they often see fit to make up their own version as they go. Between the spasmatic twitching I think I fixed it for ya! The rest of your post didn't tell me anything i wasn't already aware of when I foolishly signed up to get zapped. TI is hiding the truth and it has been proven. Glad you enjoy being tasered. What's next on your list of things to do? Electroshock therapy? Best read the very small print before signing away your rights. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

If the situation escalated to the point that a taser were to be needed, I'm sure he would choose it. But, this thread isn't about such situations, it's about unnecessary use of the taser and that in the last 5 years there have been more than 200 deaths associated with the use of the taser. And if something would had happened to you, such as it did with the officer in the Jane's article, you would had been shit out of luck as you chose to be tasered. 200+ dead people within 5 years would argue (if they could) that Taser International is not disclosing the truth. The release you signed only protects Taser and not the person being tased. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Aren't these the type of cops you and many in here are constantly complaining about? I've very seldom complained about cops. I complained about the cop who wanted to search my El camino after being pulled over for 5mph over the limit. They brought dogs and wasted a few hours of their time and the taxpayers money for nothing after I refuse him to search. I also commend some cops such as Detective Fellows of the San Diego police dept.. I've watched Ryans videos and saw him easily subdue a person getting violent. Listening to the audio, he never raises his voice. He stays extremely calm and soft spoken. I never seen him slam someone to the ground or against the car. He makes a few quick (he's 1st degree black belt and has been training in the martial arts since around age 5) moves and they are held immobile and cuffed. If I do complain it is only about cops who go beyond the scope of reasonable force. Ryans size and easy demeanor does the trick. The majority of cops I have come across ( I know quite a few of them) are pretty good people. The few who were total assholes, I have no respect for. If I am pulled over for speeding, give me a ticket and it's fine. He/she is only doing their job of enforcing the traffic law. If I am pulled over for speeding, I am offended by being asked if my car can be searched and then held for dogs when I refuse to be searched. I am offended when I am taken from my vehicle and cuffed for no reason. I am offended when berated by a cop. I am offended when asked questions that do not pertain to the offense. You know as well as everyone else that some cops have no business being a cop. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

I'm not arguing against guns per se. I'm arguing against the claim that owning a gun makes you safer. I would say that owning a gun does not make a person safer but does give a person a means to defend oneself. Take, for instance, a person breaks into your home while you are there. The gun didn't make you safe from the break in. Installing a steel door, dead bolts and bars on the windows along with ear piercing alarms will make you safer. Merely owning a gun will not. Owning a gun for defense is only that, for defense. It does not make you safer. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Sorry, but your nephew is wrong and has a very poor attitude. Tasers are not just for "pussyass cops", they are for officers to use when they feel the situation cannot be resolved peacefully yet does not warrant the use of a firearm. Not every cop weighs 300 lbs and is able to subdue perps by overpowering them. Likewise, any cop who feels he can always overpower a suspect will eventually find out he is wrong. I hope, when your nephew discovers he isn't as tough as he thinks he is, that he will not be seriously harmed. Think what you will. I think Ryan has a great attitude for being a cop. I've wathed hundreds of his videos from his dash cam. Ryan is always courteous. He is always calm. But, Ryan has the advantage of being over 6' 5" and weighing over 300 pounds. In my opinion, he is one of the good cops who uses reason over going to the taser first. In the case of the Best Buy woman being tasered, I believe Ryan would had calmly resolved the situation and been back out on the street looking for real criminals. This cop in the video has no business being a cop. Besides cops did just fine before the taser came about when talking a person down usually rsolved a situation. Now, some asshole cops feel that it is their right to use a taser for any reason whatsoever. Oh, and you did not answer my question about you being tased in a controlled situation. Did you have to fill out a questionnaire on possible health conditions that may be fatal (or injurouse, I'm adding to the question) if tased? Here's an article at Jane's of a demo inwhich the demonstrator was severly injured. The injured was a cop! http://www.janes.com/news/lawenforcement/pr/pr071011_1_n.shtml "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Although the "911 Canadians committed suicide with firearms" sounds good from an agurment point these 911 suicides could possibly had happened regardless of a gun (hanging, slit wrist, overdose, jumping...). I think that suicide by gun should "maybe" be taken out of the equation but, I could be wrong as most gun crimes could also be perpetrated using another form of weapon (knife, baseball bat, taser, rock...). Just something to ponder when arguing against guns. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

I have read every post but forgot that you have been tased. But, you were tased in a controlled situation. Did you have to fill out a questonaire pertaining to possible health conditions that may be fatal if tased? I watched the video of my nephew being tased. He is a 300 pound plus, muscle head cop in the KC area. The guy barely flinched (infact, he stood there and smiled at the camera). (Awhile back I posted an article on him making the largest cocaine bust ever in the Lenexa Ks. area.) I've asked Ryan ( acouple of years back) if he ever had to use his taser and he just made a muscle and pointed at it and said "with arms like these, I don't need to". He also said that the taser is for "pussyass cops who don't know shit about controlling a situation". "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." What conditions have been known to be fatal if tasered? I am almost sure that you will not read this article but believe others will. If by chance you are ever tasered, I'll just laugh and laugh and laugh. http://www.alternet.org/rights/44455/ From the article; Although the company spins it otherwise, Taser-associated deaths are definitely on the rise. In 2001, Amnesty International documented three Taser-associated deaths. The number has steadily increased each year, peaking at 61 in 2005. So far almost 50 deaths have occurred in 2006, for an approximate total of 200 deaths in the last five years. Don't get me wrong, I love guns myself and have owned quite a few over the years but, the most fervent gun lovers constantly pull the "criminal card" as the main reason to own a gun when the criminal is the least person to kill you. You are more likely to be shot by someone you know. Women are more likely to be shot by a husband or boyfriend. Men are more likely to be shot by a friend. Were all of these killers criminals before they pulled the trigger? Why not argue that we need guns to defend against the more likely? I can''t find the statistic but, I have seen that in a high number of shootings alcohol was a main factor so, one should argue that they need to arm against drunk spouses and friends. To hear the arguement of some, the streets are shoulder to shoulder with criminals with guns just waiting to kill them (most crimes are committed without a weapon) when the real danger is at home or in a bar with drinking buddies. But, I guess that facts wouldn't play on the fear of some like the word "criminal" does. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

This study is for the Pacific Northwest but, contains much information concerning pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. http://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/html/sb/sb681/ The North American Industrial Hemp Council http://www.naihc.org/ More links; http://www.industrialhemp.net/edu.html Actually I said Little or no fertilizers. 100% organic hemp farms in Canada and Europe do quite well without the use of fertilizers. Hemp can be grown, year after year in the same field but, that is not allowed in organic farming and is rotated with cereal and legume crops. As hemp requires a sufficient supply of nitrogen this is often overcomed by field retting, rotation and manure. I have no doubt that you know about farming. What I know is what I hear from my dad and my uncles. They farm corn in Northwest Missouri (Fillmore and New Point) (that and raise a good number of hogs). I have, however read i large amount on hemp to learn about how it can be grown and the conditions that it can be grown in. To learn more steer clear of the hippy sites.
