Medical Marijuana; 25 years of living proof
freethefly replied to freethefly's topic in Speakers Corner
When do you suppose that the feds will remove the blinders and see the truth? Whatever happened to ... Medical pot recipient from Portsmouth? by Tony Germanotta, Virginian-Pilot December 3rd, 2007 On November 20, Portsmouth native Irvin Rosenfeld marked a bittersweet milestone. Rosenfeld, 54, opened a tin from his pharmacist and lit up a government-issued marijuana cigarette. It was his 25th year in a rare "compassionate use" program ostensibly studying the efficacy of pot as medicine. For Rosenfeld, who suffers from a condition that causes painful tumors to grow on all the long bones of his body, marijuana has been a life saver. Because of it, he no longer needs the debilitating narcotics that used to leave him in a stupor but didn't blunt the agony. Although he smokes a dozen of the free marijuana cigarettes a day, he said he has never gotten high from the drug. Rosenfeld sent out invitations to the media last month to "come smoke a federal government 'joint' with Irv" as a way to celebrate his silver anniversary and drum up interest in legalizing medical marijuana use. No reporters or camera people showed up in the board room of the Westin Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., he said. "It shows the apathy," Rosenfeld said from the brokerage firm in Florida where he has worked for more than two decades. These days, he said, there has to be a crisis to get media interest in his cause. Rosenfeld is the longest living of the federal government's medical marijuana recipients. Once there were 13 in the exclusive club; there are only five left. No new participants have been allowed since 1992, but those in the system still are supplied marijuana grown at the University of Mississippi and rolled into cigarettes in North Carolina. Rosenfeld has been campaigning for decades to get the federal government to reclassify marijuana as a controlled substance that can be used by anyone with a doctor's prescription. He was the second person in America to get a federal license to smoke marijuana. The first, Robert Randall, a glaucoma and later an AIDS patient, died in 2001, the only other person to legally cross the quarter-century mark. Rosenfeld is on the board of a group, Patients Out of Time, that advocates a change in federal law, and, as Randall did before him, often speaks on behalf of medical marijuana. On Wednesday, Rosenfeld is scheduled to address a conference in New Orleans by the Drug Policy Alliance. He also has been writing a book on his efforts, tentatively titled "Pot Luck: How I Convinced the U.S. Government to Provide My Medical Marijuana and Started a National Movement." Filmmaker Oliver Stone is interested in optioning the book, which is about 90 percent finished, Rosenfeld said. It begins with his family learning, when he was 10, that he had multiple congenital cartilaginous exostosis and pseudo pseudo hypoparathyroidism. Rosenfeld, who is married and has no children, returns to Portsmouth regularly to visit his 88-year-old father and two sisters. "I'm still doing great," Rosenfeld said. "I no longer run the bases in softball. I was tearing muscles." So he utilizes a pinch runner so he can continue playing the field and hitting, he said. Before marijuana, he had been forced to give up all sports. He also teaches sailing to the handicapped and disadvantaged with an organization in Miami. It's a way of giving back, and he gets a lot of pleasure as well. "Shake-A-Leg is the greatest," he said of the group. "If you feel down, you go to Shake-A-Leg and you can't feel down." Comes right back to the original commentary; it's obvious to even the most illiterate that those T-shirts are parodical, and couldn't possibly be owned by, generated by, sold by, or promoting the products/manufacturers which they make fun of/refer to. Looking at the Tshirt in the photo posted by Bolas, it looks like a Dropzone.com T-shirt to me. Can't tell that it's a parody. But no one could mistake the Snickers/Survivor shirts for being the real thing. Also comes back to the second point, even if it wasn't apparent that the parody is related to Snickers et al, it's a corporate image vs a brother in a very small community. IMO, there is where the problem lies, and without Sangiro's blessing (which might be forthcoming, who knows..?) then it's inappropriate aside from any other considerations, IMO. I would imagine that the company that owns Jumper Sportswear (no longer a skydiver owned company), U.S. Logo, inc., had their lawyers do the homework required to be within the legal limits. Certian companies will come after you for any type of parody on their product. Harley Davidson is notorious for law suits against shirt printers as is Disney. Auto companies are another not to mess with. If one wishes to do a parody, they need to consider the four factors befor proceeding. http://www.publaw.com/parody.html As for someone mentioning that a design must be changed by 50% or more, not true. Having been in the business of embroidery and design for a few years, I've done a fair amount of research and have asked quite a few questions to others on what the limits are and it always comes down to purpose and character of use, nature of the copyrighted work. amount and substantiality of the portion used in the newly created work and effect upon the potential market of the copyrighted work. Given that it is highly unlikely that the company you wish to parodize will not grant permission you must be prepared to use the Fair Use defense and be able to show proof on each factor (all 4, not just one or two) that you are within the legal context to use the copyrighted work of another in the newly created work. I would venture to say that those people probably used alcohol illegaly (as a minor) first before they used any drug. As for the question? Don't care to much for alcohol and only have a drink 2 to 3 times out of the year (some years I've had 0 drinks) and never get drunk. So, really would depend on the situation if I would or not. There are many groups that are bringing about change. Get involved and quit bitching. http://www.safeaccessnow.org/ http://www.norml.org/ http://www.leap.cc/cms/index.php http://www.saferchoice.org/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/ Education goes a long way. The misinformation that the federal government has spewed for so long is now quickly being erased by the truth. The facts have been confirmed by the science. Marijuana is the safest drug known. It has been ruled out that it does not cause lung cancer. In fact, it has been shown that mj helps to fight cancers. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/070417193338.htm http://www.webmd.com/news/20000508/marijuana-unlikely-to-cause-cancer http://www.bigbluemachine.org/index.php?s=cannabis http://cancer911.info/lung-cancer/dr-donald-tashkin-marijuana-lung-cancer-study-pt-1-of-2/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6pBw0bgmgA&feature=related Marijuana is in fact safer than aspirin. http://www.jackherer.com/comparison.html Don't like being arrested? Do something about it. Use the system for what it was designed for - to bring about change. If you are truely concerned, join a group, write your congressman/woman, attend rallies, talk to family, friends, and co-workers. Provide links on forums to legitimate information. Don't get into bashing with those who do the Bawawawa glad you got busted types. They are a waste of your time. Most people are willing to listen if your information can be confirmed through actual medical research. If you're a smoker and feel that you are being singled out for such, get in involved. Those involved range from congressmem/women, judges, lawyers, doctors, law enforcement, ceo's, executives, factory workers, self employed, athletes and the list goes on as marijuana is not specific to just one group in society. If you're not involved and get busted again, you have no one to blame but yourself. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Try this link for answers http://www.aviationlawcorp.com/content/crimliab.html From the site; NTSB Investigative Statements Can Be Used as Evidence The NTSB investigator is not trying to trap a witness in a criminal violation. He is conducting an investigation to determining probable cause to enhance safety. The problem is that the statement he takes becomes part of an NTSB accident report, and that NTSB accident report is fully discoverable by any person who wants to use it, including a prosecutor. Furthermore, NTSB reports, except for the probable cause determination, have usually been admitted into evidence in civil and criminal litigation. (The United Airlines DC-10 disaster in Sioux City was a notable exception.) The fact of the matter is the NTSB investigator cannot predict the eventual use of the statement he obtains. He is in no position to advise you or assure you of whether the statement you give may result in the revocation of your certificate, civil liability or criminal charges. The invention of concrete, the arched roof, aqua ducts, The highway system is another invention of the Romans as was indoor plumbing and the flushing toilet and the sewer system to flush it into. No book written by man (who else is going to write them?) will tell us what is beyond death. We'll find out soon enough. With so many different religions telling us what will become of us, I see it as a power struggle of any given religion to build their membership through fear tactics. Been that way for thousands of years. Long before chritianity came about. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

These are all small, independent producers....the "little guys", that drill, pump & sell the stuff to the refineries. Most of them are old family businesses that have been in it, almost since the first well was drilled (Drake)....one of them owns the worlds oldest (still) producing oilwell....the McClintock #1. Not really doing much but, still kicking something out. From http://www.assaluyeh.com/articles.php?173-en It Is All About Barrels In the end, it is all about the number of barrels that you can lift out of the ground. It was all about barrels when Col. Drake lifted 25 of them out of the ground on Aug. 27, 1859. And it is all about barrels today, when the entire world oil industry collectively lifts about 84 million barrels per day out of the ground. At the end of each day, you know what you have if you can run the numbers. But how much oil is left? There is no escaping the fact of nature that there are fewer barrels in the ground today than there were yesterday, and there will be fewer barrels tomorrow than there are today. If you want an exact number, you take an educated guess. Meanwhile, you pump your well, and while the motor is running, you get down on your rug and pray. There are many hundreds of working oil wells near Titusville, Penn., birthplace of the world's oil industry. Not a few of these oil wells were drilled over 100 years ago. These Titusville wells are still producing oil, just not very much. The operators might run the pumps for an hour or so each day, or just run the pumps every few days. This drains the hole of water and oil. Then the downtime, when the pumps are shut off, allows the hole to replenish with more water and oil from the surrounding rock formations. These old wells strip out a few barrels of oil per day, week, or month. Again, welcome to the future. The world's oldest continuously operated oil well, located south of Titusville and known as the McClintock No. 1, was drilled in 1861. When the original operators kicked it down, the records are that this well produced about 50 barrels of oil per day. That was not a lot of oil by comparison even back then, when some Titusville wells produced upward of 5,000 barrels in a day. But after 145 years, the McClintock No. 1 still produces a small amount of light green, Pennsylvania-grade crude oil, in the range of about one valuable barrel per day. (When it comes out of the well, it feels soft and smooth like hand lotion. Don't try this with the high-sulfur gunk that comes from a lot of other oil wells, however. That stuff will burn the skin off your bones.) Back in 1861, and even assuming that anyone understood anything about petroleum engineering (which nobody did back then), who could have predicted the ultimate recovery of oil from the McClintock No. 1? But engineering or no, the old well has benefited seven generations of mankind, with the current proceeds going to the Drake Well Museum in Titusville. In light of the recent horror at Virginia Tech in the US, there’s been a lot of talk about whether or not we should arm bears. The second amendment to the US Constitution specifically states “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free Bear, the right of the People to keep and arm bears shall not be infringed.” And those two short lines, my friends, are what is causing all this bother. There are two main groups in the bear community, one of whom is vehemently pro-arming themselves, while the other suggests that the US government should take far more involvement in the regulation of bears’ arms. A third, minor faction supports the notion that bare-armed bears who bear arms must arm bears only in extreme situations requiring the use of deadly force (for example, when the bear community is at war), but their voice is often lost in this fiercely-contested debate. There is no doubt that bear-related violence is highly prevalent in US culture. Movies such as Brother Bear, where an unarmed bear is brutally murdered by vicious Native Americans, and television series’ such as Grizzly Adams, where unarmed grizzly bear Ben often had no defence save his sheer bulk when confronting grizzled old 1890’s prospectors, have popularised the notion that weaponless bears are defenceless against the cruel hand of man. However, there are those who think arming bears would be a step in the wrong direction. In an oft-referenced episode of The Simpsons, Homer claims to be “sick of these constant bear attacks”. With unprovoked bear attacks at an all-time high, is now really the time to provide them with high-powered semi-automatic weapons? And what do the bears themselves think? I took to the streets to find out. “Bears are dying, man. We’re on the way out. Everywhere we look, we’re being killed off. The only way we can fight through it is if we’re equipped with double-action .45 ACP semi-automatic pistols”, an anonymous immigrant bear from Peru (now living in Compton Forest on the outskirts of LA), told me today. When I challenged his view by saying that arming bears may only exacerbate an already difficult situation, the bear, who asked to be referred to only as “Paddington”, dismissed me with a swipe of his paw. “Pshaw, no way man. Read the second amendment. God wants us to have guns, man. On the streets of these woods, it’s kill or be killed. If you ain’t packin, you’ll be six feet under in an enormous, bear-shaped coffin. Straight up, bear.” “Paddington” may have a point. After recent events in the Hundred-Acre Wood, where well-known homosexual bear Winnie the Pooh was found murdered by erstwhile lover Christopher Robin after a falling-out, investigators at the scene of the crime confirmed that had Pooh been brandishing a Glock 9mm instead of a bowl of delicious sweet honey, he may never have been killed. As it was, Christopher Robin escaped with third-degree stickiness over 30% of his body, while Pooh ended up in a pine box. There are no easy answers, but one thing is clear: the bears have a voice, and they’re damn well going to use it. Watch out, America. Edit to add, I copied and posted this from something i found on this sick web. Damn, is this funny. Although, the bears may think other wise, beware of bears baring arms. If bearing beer be very cautious as bears with beer can't bear to part with there so loved beer. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." O.K. I know that a lot of people here do want to believe that they are immune but, I am going to shove it in your face with this post. It is about AIDS. I hope that you do take a look at it as it will affect each and everyone of you eventually in your lifetime. It may be your brother, sister, mother or father. It may be your cousin, inlaw, husband, wife, girlfiend/boyfriend or a friend. It does not care who you are or what position in society the you inahibit but it will eventually seep into your life, one way or another. It may seep in by way of casuall contact. It may seep in by way of close contact. It may only be casual but, it it will affect each and every person that you know as it affects society on a level that is often untold. Today is world AIDS Day. If you do anything today, at least mention it, if only once, to someone you care about. It is only through information, such as this, that someone does not have to be as me. AIDS changes a life in more ways than you can imagine. It is a silent cancer that can be stopped if only the stigma is ignored and the truth is known that it does not discriminate on who it infects. Mention it once can change the course of it path. Do it for someone you love. While you are at it, go get tested. Thank You http://www.avert.org/world-aids-day-quiz.php I am going to add this "I am the only person that I am aware of in this sport to admit that I have AIDS. I have hoped for several years that others, whom I am aware of, would have came forward. I know for fact that there are others. If you you are infected and do not want to come forward, I understand that, I have had some mean PM's about my condition but, I ignore them and continue to push it out there. I would hope that if anyone gives a damn that they would mention the need to take all precautions neccesary to stop the spread of HIV and all other STD's. I am also adding this: If you are are concerned and wish to talk to some one, I am available. I have been living with this illness for 13 years. I will respect your confidentiality. I WILL NOT expose you. I do wish to talk to others who have to deal with what I have to deal with. But, I do hope that we can support one another the same as other with an illness do. Again, please talk to your loved ones and bring this up at the dz. Make a difference in your life and those around you. It benefits everyone. Thank You Oh, and if you wish to contact me and discuss, my email is Flyingloom@yahoo.com My name is Mark Hamm. I am not ashamed. Been jamming on Mr.Roy Buchanan most of the night. I would guess, most of you have never heard of this Blues Legend. Buy "Live Stock". "Can I Change My Mind" is a classic not be unheard. Many of the great guitarist today have honed their skills from his innovations. He was the man who made the Telecaster sing. Saw him back in the early 70's. Jazz/blues/rock fusion. The man was a master. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Uh, no. Essentially a stun gun is a taser without the shooting darts. They both use very high voltage, low aperage to disrupt signals from the brain to the muscles. The officer shocked the baby along with the woman. Some years back, a friend of mine thought it would be funny to put a stun gun near the back of my neck. Back then I weighed over 200 pounds. That thing put me on the ground and hurt like freaking hell. Stun gun or taser, either one will knock a person silly.
