  3. Evolution. Nature will find a way. Actually, if you read the article, they believe the plants were genetically altered. (I am assuming they meant by man and not evolution but I am just assuming.) Even better .... this is evidence that not all potheads are wastes of life .... some can do quite productive things.... 6. Execution for revenge is wrong. As I stated above, someone should not be executed simply to get revenge or retribution. However, some people are dangerous even while in prison. Take Clarence Ray Allen who successfully ordered hits from prison against those who had testified against him. So was he not still a danger to society even after being locked up? Ted Bundy escaped more than once, his last time he killed quite a few people before he was caught again. Should he have been kept alive as well? What about leaders of terrorist organizations, where the organization would undoubtedly try to free them if it was at all possible? Should they be allowed to live as well? Not every execution is done solely for revenge. This ad space for sale.

  11. Actually, one theory I heard why the government blew up the WTC is because someone in the 96th floor found indisputable proof that we never landed on the moon and it was just some big hoax by NASA. It was going to be this massive conspiracy and the government wasn't going to be able to stop it and so to shut the guy up they created 9/11. That's the straight up truth. This ad space for sale.
  12. In a few weeks I'm going to be in charge of redesigning our software architecture as the current system is completely jacked. I have a bunch of ideas on how to go about doing it ... however, i would like to have a formal set of diagrams to 1) make it completely defined, and 2) make it easier to look at, understand, and explain. I know that UML is often used to explain the class and structure diagram, however, from using UML myself it seems to make things even more complicated. I'm wondering if anybody out there has used any diagramming/mapping software that they could recommend..... This ad space for sale.
  13. Hey man haven't you seen the movies. If any moving object touches a fixed object everything explodes. It's basic physics, all defined in Geronimo's Third Law of Explodable Matter. So of course when a 757 flies into a building, everything automatically goes kaboom. This ad space for sale.
  14. To be fair, I started it, and it was meant to be funny, not belittling. They're both direct quotes from a Monty Python skit, which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it before. transcript This ad space for sale.
  15. I understand the differences between those. I was raised Hindu, although I stopped believing in that when I was 16. I since studied Buddhism and Taoism, and about Zeus, well, I know he carried a lightning bolt and liked women. While I am by no means a scholar, I do know the difference between the different philosophies. And to me, that's really all religion is: a philosophy, a general guideline on how to live life honestly, morally, and spiritually pure. And for what I've learned, Taoism comes the closest to a pure guideline as it foregos all of the mythical aspects of religions and delves on the internal spirituality and the goodness of oneself. However, I do believe that in the times that most religions were founded there were many questions that could not be answered (ie: how we got here) which they had to answer in order to appease the public. Furthermore, most people respond better to stories than orders, and hence teachings in the form of parables are far more effective. And therefore the reason of "history" infused into moral teachings. Personally, I don't think it matters what religion or belief system one uses, as long as what results is right. However, from reading this thread as well as many other threads, we seem to be told that disbelief or nonacceptance of the Christian God (or any god) is grounds for eternal damnation, whatever that damnation is. I would like to know, from the people that state this, why someone who is devout in his religion and set of morals and has committed no wrong would be damned for not believing in the Christian God? I understand that not every Christian, and not even most Christians, believes in this. To be fair, I also believe, from those I have spoken with, that most preachers, ministers (or whatever the name is) are sane and understanding of different belief systems. My question is not poised for them. My question is poised for those that keep saying that disbelief in the Christian God is grounds for damnation. This ad space for sale.

  17. I still wouldn't mind knowing, seriously, what makes the Christian God more correct than the Hindu gods, Buddha, the Tao, and Zeus. This ad space for sale.
  18. Not really. If you choose to live without God, then it would be your choice. Yep, a choice analogous to "Here are three identical boxes, choose the right one and you get the grand prize, choose one of the others and you leave with nothing" No that's not quite right. You get the grand prize only after you die. This ad space for sale.
  19. I give you the free will to either accept me as your God and saviour or be tortured for eternity. Well, the torture is simply symbolic, so it's only going to affect those who believe in it and hence allow themselves to be tortured, since by being human, they've already sinned. The rest of us, however, that don't believe that it really symbolizes anything won't be tortured and so, as long as we don't feel any guilt, we can go on being human, and thereby sinning. 20. While this would be a horrible idea for the US, this is a great idea for England. Imagine what kind of ruckus would break loose if any hooligan on the street could have access to air guns? This ad space for sale.
  21. What is the difference, if any, between 'I reject God' of the athiests, and the 'I just don't know either way' of the agnostics? Or for that matter, "I believe in multiple gods" of the Hindus or "I believe in the Way" of Taoists or "I believe in Zeus" of the ancient Greeks? This ad space for sale.
  22. Can you really not see the difference between those situations? Yes I do. He asked me a similar question. So I asked one back. This ad space for sale.
  23. So sarcasm is it. It's an alternative form of misdirection. But you have made your assertion, so we see that you condone murder, no more than 4 per year, yet want to kill murderers. Actually, I haven't stated anything of the sort. How can you ask "How many innocent people is it okay to execute?" The answer is obviously none, but the only way to guarantee that is to not execute anybody. Fair enough. I get the point. I don't know how I feel about the death penalty. There are some people who don't deserve to be out in society. I don't care whether they're dead or locked up for life, as long as their "life sentence" is actually life and not twenty years. There are some people who should never be allowed in society. My personal opinion is that, if I was to be locked up for my entire life, I'd rather be dead, which is why I would rather execute somebody who is plainly guilty and isn't going to be released. At the same time, I understand that the justice system isn't perfect, that we have executed and locked up innocent people. I also understand that sending someone to death row costs more than simply imprisoning him for life. I also understand that many of the proponents for the death penalty are so because of a desire for revenge, and justice is not about revenge. In the end, I don't care about the death penalty. Removal from society is sufficient. However, at the same time, there have been those who have been powerful enough to cause deaths from within prison. These people should be terminated. I'll see if I can find the thread about the guy I'm thinking of. If a killer has a gun to your child's head and is most likely going to pull the trigger, but you are behind him, out of his view, and can kill him first, would you do so? If yes, how can you hate guys like Dahmer, Bundy, Gacey, when you too would kill somebody? This ad space for sale.

  25. You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.
