Why do Atheist/Unbelievers always clash heads with Christians?
unformed replied to CameraNewbie's topic in Speakers Corner
I will second that (about just fundies being evangelical). I don't think you're apt to find many evangelical Hindus as the religion doesn't really promote that. However, they do have some truly retarded concepts and the way they tried teaching me when I was fifteen is what drove me away from religion in the first place. This ad space for sale. -
Most people could not deal with the fact that our lives are essentially meaningless; that after we die, we join the earth, and about a hundred years after our death, we will be most nearly forgotten. Most people need a belief that there is some purpose to our lives, that there is something eternal we will get out of this. Which is fine, whatever works ... if it makes them live their life better, more power to it. Personally, I find the fact that my life is meaningless empowering. It means that because nothing I do really matters in the grand scheme of things, I can do anything I put my mind to. It is all here; it is now. There might not be a tomorrow. So fuck it, roll a hard six, and go nuts. But that's a difficult perception to have. It is much easier and much more convenient to simply accept God as taking care of you and offering eternal bliss, especially for the poor and the downtrodden in the past who, due to class structure, had nearly no hope of getting ahead in life. Christianity (and religion) gave them what they need to survive. And there's still those people that don't think they have the power within themselves, and therefore, need an external entity to provide it. This ad space for sale.

Additionally, most Hindus and Buddhists are quite humble regarding their beliefs. They don't feel the need to tell the world what they believe or, better yet, to save them. This ad space for sale. -

I'm glad to see you acknowledge the Word of God. You're a bit mistaken. I do not acknowledge the Word of God, in any manner or form or to any extent. I acknowledge the Bible as a guideline to life. Nothing more and nothing less. Just as well, I acknowledge the many other books as guidelines to life. Also, nothing more and nothing less. There's a bit more to it that you'd like people to believe with your post. The Bible is comprised of 66 books. One book need not stand on its own. It's backed up by the rest. Although, they can. The number of books or the size of it does not change anything. Just because a group of people write many books that reference themselves as being true does not make them true. It just makes for a well-written and very complex set of books. Find me scientific (ie: not biblical) references to the things you like to state as fact. This ad space for sale.

Yes... I know. Obviously it doesn't make a difference, because that book was inspired, and it's the truth because it says so itself. But any other book which claims itself to be truth is completely wrong because your book really is the truth. And you expect people to not only believe you, but to also take you seriously. Man thats the thing about Mormons, it just wasn't that long ago! I can imagine people falling for that bullshit in the time of Mohammed or JC but Smith was, what? 150 years ago? With his "Umm, yeah, there were these gold plates with a message from heaven that an angel deciphered for me, so you should join my religion. What, you want to see the plates? They're, uh, under that cloth. No, you can't lift the cloth because, umm, they're invisible, yeah. You still want to see them? Oh no! The angel has taken them back to heaven. Sorry" Midwest Americans crack me up But Joseph Smith was a PROPHET who had VISIONS! It MUST be true.[/reply He was INSPIRED!!!!!!! This ad space for sale.

How can you possibly think your way around holding us to that standard yet not your god and still believe you're making sense? Because it's logical? Hahahaha....... Man...people would pay good money to have the delusions you're having. You should extract the chemicals from your head and sell them in pill form. You'd make a killing in college campuses everywhere. Or better yet, teach a course in advanced mathematical theory, which is the absolute basis of logic and everything. You seem to know a lot more about logic than my professors did. As electrics won't use gas and be much less prone to exploding on contact with a road rail, are Hollywood movies going to go the way of digested food (to shit) or is Hollywood going to mandate that every car carry a large tub o' 'line in the trunk? How are we going to get our requisite explosions? Or will the liberals win, and we will only have chick flicks? This ad space for sale.

Says who? 1st Law of Thermodynamics No it doesn't. First Law of Thermodynamics - Neither matter nor energy can be created or destroyed. God is neither matter or energy. He created both of those things just like he created the laws which govern them. He also created time. The Creator is above his creation. He's not part of his own creation. How could he be? That is illogical. He's not. If I paint a painting, I'm not also the painting that I painted. I'm the painter. The painting is simply an expression of mine. If the existence of set Ao (the universe and all its rules, forces and particles) must imply the existence of creator Co, then the existence of set A1 = Ao Co must imply the existence of creator C1, ad infinitum. Simple math. So either there's no creator, or an infinite number of creators, each more complex than the previous one. ANd you really need to check up on the 1st Law. Um. God doesn't follow laws because He created them. Well, wait, except for the laws of His nature. He has to follow those laws, because if God could make a rock even He couldn't lift, that would be a problem, so he's not allowed to do thins like that....it's just not in His nature, even though He can do anything He wants. You and your math stuff. That's just complicated. Why are you bringing math into something that's fact and plain as day? This ad space for sale.

Good point... “It is a constant torture to me that I am still so far from Him whom I know to be my very life and being. I know it is my own wretchedness and wickedness that keeps me from Him.” --Mahatma Ghandi So he understood humility. When asked why he did not embrace Christianity, he stated: Your path is not the only way to purity. It might be right for you, and it might be right for many people, but that does not mean it is right for everybody. And it is idiotic to believe that it is. And it is downright self-righteous to push your path down others' throats. This ad space for sale.

I consider sin to be something that goes against my moral code. If I felt guilty about doing something, I committed a sin. Essentially, my moral code consists of not harming anybody for gratuitous or selfish reasons or without an honest rationalization. Therefore, just lusting after a taken girl is not sinful, however, attempting to seduce her is, but ... if she comes onto me without my provocation ... well that's gray area. Lying, cheating, and stealing are wrong 99% of the time. This ad space for sale.
