  1. If your planning on taking a break the nmaybe try this. Save the money, lose the weight the DZ asked and then you'll have more funds and more opertunity to keep at it and more FUN at it! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  2. Sure he could, but wow 9K to start is a bit pricey yeah? It would also have very low resale for him as he progressed. Losing the weight and working with a reputable DZ and staff would be the route I would go, but it is Just my opinion. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. 3. I commend your desire for wanting to learn to skydive. Your right that ASC in GA is the same Company as the ASC in AL. I won't try and sway your opinion about the company here, you can read the numerous threads, law suit links and BBB complaint links and make up your own mind. As for the true issue at hand. Most DZ's do not have systems that would allow you (at current discribed weight) to land a solo piloted canopy at a safe wing loading. If a DZ says they have the gear to do it ask for a little info before signing up. 1. What is the student main canopy I will be using? 2. What will my wing loading be? (your probably looking for a .85 or less, that is your body weight devided into the canopies square footage) 3. What experience does the DZ and its staff have with Students at my wieght? If the DZ has large enough canopies, that allow a low enough wing loading, with staff who can and have jumped with heavier (usually meaning faster falling) students you will have a good time and enjoy the sport as much as the rest of us. I think the Ohio DZ I go to would welcome you, but that is a long drive for you too. It may just be that you wait and lose the weight needed till you can go to a closer DZ. I think that maybe you might be better off and go that way as it sounds like the DZ that you had talked to, may only be thinking of safety and asking you to lose weight to get back under the maximum wing loading for the equipment. Maybe not the news you wanted but it may be the news you needed. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  4. True it is crtitcal to hit every point of performance in the jump and when you hit number five, "Land", ensure you hit all fives points of CONTACT. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  5. I just invisioned Billy's house flashing like a scene from the Danny D and Matthew B movie where they competed for "Mr. Christmas". Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  6. I actually agree with you and P. I didn't write "pulled by Instructor" and was not trying to imply that, my appalogies. I would be a bit concerned with the OP statement of "I could not see my Altimeter" and also wonder what happened to the top end sequence where the Altimeter plays a major role. I also see where Nick is coming from and can see that side of the coin as well, if you liken it to a first Tandem jump (some students come do AFF with the same mind set). 7. If I do remember correctly the AFF CAT "A" standards say "Deploy with assistance" and in later Catergories "Without". Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  8. I sent a proposal to USPA to help with the clubs when Mr. Needles was still the ED. Haven't seen any thing come of it other than some e-mails stating "this is a great idea!". Your better off asking the Golden KNights SGM if he has some advice or influence. The pool of qualified personel for the GK is getting a bit thinner as all the clubs are gone and of course the other four Army teams would like to keep the folks they have with them. 9. You may end up having to rent on weekends when it comes to A/C. Although the Colt would be fun to jump from again. Pay close attention to the lines about Army Aircraft use. I have/had been invovled in the fight your stepping into for nine (9) years. And you may be right about the Garrison CSM running Facilities, but A/C he has little power over, win the AVN BGD CDR over and your going to have a good time. If you can get the UH-60's or CH-47's for a weekend a month and lease a C-182/206 the others you can have success. You will need a Manager, so someone is handling the DZO Admin type stuff. 10. The first records I had showed that the Army had many Sport Parachute Activities started in 1958. From those clubs many Instalations had weekend/part time Demonstration Jumpers ("All Americans" of the 82nd ABN, "Screaming Eagles" of the 101st ABN, the "Silver Wings" of the ABN Dept. etc). Then the Army's STRAC (Startegic Airborne Command) formed a Demo Team as "Full Timers" and they had some success and then they got a new name in 1961, and a nick name in '62 [(?) is that right slotperfect?], today we still call them the "Golden Knights". MWR (who ran all the Clubs) is not funded in the same manner as the DoD and runs on NAF (Non-Appropriated Funds). Basically MWR must make money at what it does or lose the activity. For the Army the Reg's support the formation of a Club to Skydive at. The intalations Aviation Command needs to support it as well. Clubs tend to be busy on weekends and that is the days the Aviation Command would like to be off. The other part is if the Club is not making money from its clients (DoD ID Card holders) due to deployments etc, it can not pay for a Manager or equipment ect. The last club to go away for the Army was at Fort Bragg, and it went through several evolutionary changes in order to keep it alive for a while. If you want more info just ask, but it would have to be a Global Political change to get the clubs open again I do fear. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

  12. My role was simple. I was the T-I and I answered the questions the Student (Senator) asked. It was the victims of a Florist Company Scam that actually got the bill introduced. The whole history of this bill is kind of funny and actually had nothing to do with our industry. Our industry will be effected by it as well as others. 13. In one aspect, yes she is a Skydiver, as she made a Tandem with me as part of the Week of the Eagles activities in 2007 (as she was reading the Parachutists provided during the Tandem Waiver process and the Skydiving Magazine there for eye candy, she first learned of Skyride). 14. Hey if your currently in the Navy can you PM me or e-mail me please. I am doing some research about the New NWU. Thanks All! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  15. A few years ago I talked to a fellow at the Alaska BLM who said the extra chambers helped in turbulance. Some thing they had a lot of experience with given where they landed for work. I do not know how valid that point is though. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  16. That design looks like a Test model for the Forestry Services Smoke Jumper Canopy (or one of the many they use) I say this because of the triple chambers on cells 2 and 6. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  17. THEY DID IT IN TWO JUMPS!! Good Job Ladies!! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  18. Is that the thing that canula oil comes from? Maybe I'm not all that enthused any more and the video idea is looking better, is an open bid going on? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  19. I wonder if Bruce or Jer need aright seater? I got my stuff in order "set right!" See I can do it. Focus now and set a record Ladies we will all be chearing for you! (or learing at you?) Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  20. To make a face put the curser where you want it and then the mouse on the face and click, this technique can be used for other things as well. I think it is sad that a Tandem Student had to go that extra step for the upjumpers, but it is a crying shame I was to far back to see! Your gonna need a better O2 system if your going to the moon each load, all FREAKEN' SORTS OF PUNS INTENDED! I wonder if we can rig up some web cams? 21. Well it would seem some folks have a little to much computer access and or computer time on thier hands. Maybe they should start a tally for wildest threads (yep Billy you would be #1). Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  22. Well I am hard headed is that like being hard of hearing? (a fancy way of saying deaf by choice at the moment) Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  23. YES! They saw it on a video and thought that T-I had, I quote "Mad Skillzz". They even had the video (a friends tandem Jump) to prove it. I just tell them we will do some cool stuff and give them the same breif I give them all about Exit, body poistion, how to read the Altimeter and pulling. IF they don't do it all right, well then I have my "Mad Skillzz" put to the test. I have only had one Tandem Student tell me the ywished the jump was more exciting. 24. I guess saying didn't you listen to the narrator would be stupid huh? Paul McGowan made the jump. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
