  1. Derren Brown Watch some of his video's! It's amazing what confidence (and distraction) will get you!
  2. Touche. You seem awfully brave insulting us while hiding behind the anonymity of no profile. The number of skydives that you have IS irrelevant to the argument. But country of origin isn't. If you're not only insulting the American healthcare system, but also the intelligence of Americans. But, speaking of which, IF you had READ, some of the 400+ posts, you would have seen that, counter to your statement, there are MANY that find fault with how the system is. But the problem is in HOW to fix it. We don't want to just blindly follow ways that AREN'T working. We WANT to use reason and rationale to have a system that is FAIR and NON-JUDGMENTAL (like the NZ Healthcare system, with the beaurecrats judging whether you deserve your dialysis based on whether a doctor THINKS you're worth the expense ie - just gonna die anyway.) Again, I'll say, just so that its harder to miss: OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IS BROKE. But.... I assure you, our intelligence is not. and ftr, however many jumps you have.... you're still not arguing the point of the debate.
  3. Again, you didn't have the "right" people explaining. Those pages look more like explaining LIMITS of your rights and described LEGAL limitations. It did cover some medical (including medical misadventures), but doesn't discuss foreign or the exemptions that I noted above. Additionally the link that I provided was last updated "Information current as of December 2007." I still argue your points.
  4. I don't like having my Country misrepresented.... and obviously you think it tastes a bit sour too. (good) YES I WILL. Look at the website from YOUR country. My Dad had Lung Cancer. Why doesn't he deserve health care coverage? Why should he die? If it was your father, would you allow him to die? That might depend on if it's a spontaneous pneumothorax or if there was some medical reason for it. Or are you just talking that if some one STABS ME?! It's so peace loving and perfect? Why would there ever be any violnece? I will avoid the obvious replies. What about children whose mother took tetracycline during the pregnancy? And dental health is actually a risk factor for preterm labor and complications... so ..... We have a foster-care system, which is government funded and state run. It's not the best program, but it does provide for those children.... even those with development disabilities. Firstly - I still argue that if he had a broken arm that he was refused care at an ER. AGAIN.... IT IS AN EMTALA VIOLATION. I do not believe you. If he was told he had to wait. . . .SUCK IT UP CUPCAKE. I waited 6hrs for care for my broken ankle. Some people just have an entitled attitude that demands IMMEDIATE care. But, back to your question, if my insurance collapsed, I would still get it fixed and then look into COBRA. But... I would not delay MY HEALTH (which is MY RESPONSIBILITY) for the sake of money. AND, If I couldn't COBRA then accept the debt and if necessary (ie the debt is too significant that I will never be able to get out from under) bankruptcy is an option. Dude... again with the assumptions. I went to college on scholarship from the military (part of the EVIL DEFENSE BUDGET), paid my time back. Not only did I not receive a penny from my family, but IN FACT, I had to get a job to help my mom pay the house payments when my dad got lung cancer and then had a stroke and was in the nursing home for 11months before he died. I have NEVER had a silver spoon. Nor do I have much respect for those that think they can get one from me (however it's stolen).
  5. Also.... Rationing of Health Care Experience with rationing health care in New Zealand So over here, the rationing is by finances (unless you go to the ER where you have to be seen and treated) but subsidized by the government if you're poor and then on Medicaid. Over there it's rationing by "projected" survival. "I don't think you'll benefit 'enough' from this. So, you'll just die" I would rather go on Medicaid and get treatment as opposed to having someone tell me "you only have 6mos to live, so no treatment."
  6. Just to clear up some misrepresented non facts: Healthcare in NZ is NOT free to all: Source Hmmmm.... not quite what we are led to believe when facts are checked.
  7. A Borderline Personality Car!!!! (and one with a fetish for public sex )
  8. how about this one Another one for
  9. No. There are tumor markers for certain cancers (Ca 125 for Ovarian Cancer, CEA for bowel cancer, PSA for prostate). PET scans might find "hot spots" that are suspicious, but are generally not used for screening, rather as a tool to determine the spread of the disease. No definitive test besides biopsies of malignant tissue.
  10. Yet again you are INCORRECT. I do not own the clinic. (Nor do I own the nurses, the receptionist or the other workers.... ) If you had bothered to ask, you would have more information to make statements. But instead, you just make your own opinions on assumptions based on lack of knowledge of reality. Here is a listing of average salaries of OB/Gyn in America. I make less than ALL of the listings (and half of some.... because I am "selfish"?) If you had read my pm's or my posts in this thread, my whole opinion is based on PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and FREEDOM OF CHOICE. You have the choice to come over here, you have the choice to skydive. . . If I'm paying for your healthcare (via taxes and the government), should we the people then have the right to decide what you can/can't do. I should be able to regulate your wingloading. I should be allowed to fine you heavily for down wind landings. And the penalty for not flaring would be?? Consider a parallel with roads - We have public roads under certain restrictions. The government pays for the roads, in return, you have to follow speed limits, have a license, have government sponsored enforcers.... is that truly what you want with healthcare and it's limits. ("You get healthcare under our restrictions.") Personally I would rather evaluate the risks in my life and make MY decisions accordingly. I DO NOT WANT the government to control my actions. Not based on GREED. Rather INDEPENDENCE.
  11. Ya' shoulda' left that one alone. I went there and searched for "cancer causes"...came up with lots of stuff but in a random sampling, I'm seeing the words "odds" and "ratios" used quite often and in almost ALL of them. Still sounds like Vegas. You're the one claiming that medicine is a religion and states absolutes. I'm just trying to show you TRUTH.
  12. Unfortunately, all "studies", gov't propaganda and claims from the so-called experts that I've ever seen or heard, seem to allude to the "fact" (if not directly stated) that smoking and ONLY smoking, is the cause (not just a contributor or aggravator) of lung and most other cancers. It's this blatant spewing of misinformation, that I have a problem with. I agree, smoking may aggravate....possibly even contribute, under certain circumstances, to cancer and more likely, emphysema. The absurdity of some of my comments*, were simply to illustrate the absurdity of the methods used by the gov't and other medical "experts", to achieve their statistics. or so-called "proof". Anyone can average-out a "cause" for something....it isn't science, it's gambling. * Comments about my x-rays and those who died from cancer. were all true. Ummmm did you even go to www.pubmed.com? DO THAT. LOOK at those articles that you claim to know so much about. ONce you look at those . . . . then come back here.
  13. Squeak - I was told that my other choice was not "anthemic" enough.... so now lets try this
  14. I love the backup in Robert Palmer videos!!!
  15. Your "n" of 7 or 8 would not be published by ANY medical journal as "proof." Understanding epidemiology and power of studies will help with that statement.
  16. Although I don't smoke and prefer non-smoking settings, I personally agree with this. I didn't frequent the bars or establishments that were smoking unless I was with friends that smoked and really wanted to be able to have that decision. I chose to support the restaurants that were non smoking because it was a better experience for me. If more people do so, then FINANCIALLY the businesses that succeed would be non-smoking and it would be by the peoples choice. And.... kschilk, do you really believe that "No connection has ever been made, between smoking and cancer....lots of rhetoric and bs claims but no positive proof"? Go to www.pubmed.com. Type in smoking, tobacco and cancer to the search criteria. You will find MANY studies, with statistically significant results showing the risks of smoking. Not just related to lung cancer, but also bladder cancer, cervical cancer, certain GI cancers and others. You are right, you could know some people that smoke and don't get cancer. . . . but that doesn't mean that he/she isn't increasing the odds of getting cancer. Genetics does play a role in it, but having a mutagen trigger problems is bad.
  17. Insurance policy sales commissions Insurance company admin costs Insurance company profit margins Healthcare price inflation due to non-payment Unnecessary admin fees due to so many different rules/policy coverages Pharmaceutical marketing fees There's a few reasons why our current privatized system costs Americans more than necessary. _______________________________________________ Good point, but don't forget: -$300,000-$500,000/ year in malpractice premiums -Cost of defensive medicine, so you can stay out of the court room. -Time wasted sitting in a court room defending your- self in front of people who don't have the first clue what and why something happened. -Time wasted do to the preparation and stress of being sued. ... Oh come on.... the easy answer to that is that Doctors need to be perfect - thus avoid the malpractice issue. AND work without pay - thus fix the whole financial aspect of patients.
  18. The reason it was in the pm's was because I didn't want to hijack the thread that you had commented in. So I started with trying to help you understand. It was not in pm for any other reason besides that. Your comments did most of the escalation - and whether you would have made those comments had it been open forum or not is kind of irrelevent. There were several personally attacking comments that you directed at me. Mine were more directed toward discussion of personal autonomy and responsibility. Additionally those comments that you posted above are out of context and without the links as well.... Panhandler link So define "fair." Does it includde name calling and ending a debate that you are loosing by blocking pm's. edit to add: And still stands. I didn't then nor do I now understand why you're so emotionally charged about health care in another country. IT DOESN'T APPLY TO YOU.

    IQ Testing

Honestly, and this is ENTIRELY my bias, she's not looking to solve a problem. She's not doing this to help him learn, boost his confidence or make him feel better about himself. She's doing this to build an excuse. She claims to spend time helping him with his homework, but I know from others that live up there, that isn't true. In fact, when I went up to visit a few months back, she threw a significant temper tanturm (yes... 30+ and using such means to manipulate) to get me to come over and help him with his homework. I wish she was doing this with HIS future in mind.

    IQ Testing

I hadn't thought about recommending that he be tested privately and confidentially. That, at least, would be a bit more . . . . acceptable.

    IQ Testing

I don't know whether this should come here or be in SC, but we'll start here and see how the responses go. Last week, I got into a "discussion" with my sister. She wants to have her 13yo son IQ tested to show that his problem in school is cognitively based (ie she thinks he's below average). I am VERY MUCH against this idea. (I recommended testing for dyslexia, and other SPECIFIC learning problems). She wants to "show the school" that it's not her fault or his fault for him not learning. My argument hinged on the fact that this test will be a lose/lose situation for my nephew. If he does poorly - "see, he's an idiot. stop picking on him. he just can't understand. leave him alone." If he does well - "so, he's just a lazy slacker" When my sisters and I were young, our grade school wanted to have everyone tested. My mother SPECIFICALLY argued against that and pulled us out of school for that day. Her thought was that she didn't want to set a bar on our potential (and with three competitive girls probably didn't want to hear the "Well, I'm smarter, DUMMY!" comments in the fights) My older sister has since taken an IQ test, but I have not. . . Unless you count those silly online things that probably don't really count. We discussed this for probably close to an hour. Neither backing or bending. I'm just wondering, since she's so adamant on her view. . . might she be right? If this was your son, would you have him tested?
