  1. Ya know... one of my ancestors was actually hanged as a witch on gallows hill in Salem. That would explain a lot... for you have cast a spell on a lot of the men here on DZ.com Thank you . . . . although ummmm.... I've probably had just as many cursing my wicked and evil existence.
  2. Maybe you could explain to Divot what an oral board is before he starts humping the air again. It's an oral exam evaluating my skills. (Does that clear things up? )
  3. 1. Be safely in the sky again 2. Be done with oral boards. 3. Be healthy and happy.
  4. I've actually been thinking about both the speeding and the seatbelt commercial . . . . Thoughts on the speeding: 1. As noted above, DONT SWERVE. 2. Even if going 5-10mph less, would the vehicle still have lost control? 3. Tragic chain of events. . . . but to blame all of the accident on the driver seems wrong. Chance and fate had some role, so not all of it was the drivers "fault". . . but still very very sad. Thoughts on the seatbelt commercial: 1.DAMN! He took HOW MANY of them out! That's some careful billiards there! 2. OK... so I should wear my seatbelt only when there are others in the vehicle? 3. Why wasn't this an anti speeding commercial, cuz that was the real "fault," wasn't it? (see above)
  5. I would not. Trisomy 21 (Downs syndrome) is a mutation, but is a survivable mutation. There are medical and cognitive problems with Down's syndrome, but overall, these children can grow to be happy adults. As a parent, they require A LOT more care. . . but my personal feelings are that there are NO GUARANTEE with life at all. If you get pregnant, that child might go to Harvard or not. And who's to say that should be a mark of "success." And.... with the advances in our knowledge in genetics, this might be something that can be "treated" in the future. (I have NO idea how we would correct every cell.... but that's just cuz I don't yet have that knowledge)

  7. Organic Chemistry SUCKED! (especially since my profession was one of the MOST SEXIST AND ARROGANT men that I know... he even told us on day one that "women just aren't cut out for this. They never get an A in my class") Soured the WHOLE experience but made me work that much harder to prove him wrong.... but I got a B Next time you take it, get help EARLY!!
  8. OK, dude. ONE MORE TIME (then I have to ignore you and work on my caselist... regardless of what is posted next) source You are NOT able to guarantee me of anything if your own gov't website can't.
  9. We already discussed this six months ago... I don't have time right now to correct you again.
  10. OK. I'm gonna make this one post and then run, not because I don't want to engage in this discussion, rather this week is going to be BUSY (after I fully wake up) until complete this very important task, I need to focus on completing that, not debating in SC. But I want to explain that health care is NOT just for the "privileged" here in America. But it might be inconvenient if you don't have the perfect insurance plan. But... lets say (using examples that I KNOW), a young woman gets pregnant and she might be working as a waitress and he, in this current market, just lost his job. But they don't have much, and especially don't have insurance. What they, or she, actually, needs to do is check into Medicaid. But... it can be tricky and it would help to know the HOW's of qualifying But... that is QUITE a hassle. But maybe she has a friend in a similar situation and can ask her "Where do I start?" and that friend can (and often does) help get her to a caseworker. But my point is that health care IS available for her. OK, so you then argue that she IS married and one of the two of them has a good income (but no insurance benefits in the plan). Then what? Can't qualify for medicaid and doesn't WANT to buy health insurance. Still options out there. The counties offer health departments (Johnson County Health Depatment, Leavenworth County Health Department, Jackson County Health Department, ect) that are then funneled into the main teaching hospitals in the city, such as KU or Truman. But sometimes some people dont WANT to go to a teaching facility. (maybe they've watched one too many episodes of House, or maybe they just don't want all those students and residents and then the attendings to be bugging them ALL the time!) Or... as too many do, they choose to go without. Then show up on the hospital door at term and become what we tend to refer to as a "dew drop." She will get a bill from the hospital and from the doctor and from anesthesia (if she got an epidural or a c-section)... but she WILL NOT be refused care if she is in labor even if she doesn't have insurance. But... this is NOT a good idea. We (the doctors) don't know if she's a gestational diabetic - cuz she never did the testing at 28w.) We have no firm grasp on her gestational age or the babies estimated weight (other than physical exam, but that can be off by as much 3 weeks at term). What about any infections (chlamydia or herpes) that she hasn't been treated for? Lots of issues with dew drops. (thats why some of the docs - and I WAY DISAGREE with this - withhold epidurals for dew drops as a way to encourage them to go to Truman or KU) As I stated six months ago here:
  11. OK, Squeak. You might be right... but I still don't think that socialized medicine run by our government would be better. I have said MANY times that I wish our system were better, but I do NOT think that turning it over to the government will do that. I would be half tempted to say that we should go back to a fee for service system, but we would NEED to drop the fees.... or even simple barter if necessary.... but NOT the government. Then you have Administrators with no real medical background or understanding deciding what patients need. You have entitled attitudes butting against that and doctors and nurses caught in the middle. Nope. I would be getting out and becoming a COOK!
  12. Some people are just fucking retarded no no, i'm lizard girl Hell, some people thought she was me. Well... since her and I got into a little scuffle at first, I'm glad no one thought she was me. I might talk to myself, but I do NOT argue with myself (yes, you do..... NO. I DON'T...... STFU and just post this now!)
  13. And you've forgotten to list how "wonderful" Medicare is
  14. That's exactly what it is. The US military is a socialist structure. If you get care on base, ok, I would agree. But TriCare is it's own brand of bad medical insurance and one of the main reasons that I got out and into the civilian field. I want to help PEOPLE .... not play with red tape. Government EQUALS red tape. Submitting requests in triplicate for an ultrasound for pelvic pain. . . fighting insurance companies is bad enough, but fighting the government is intolerable.
  15. Honestly an interesting question. Might be related to the pictures and the images that some guys get when talking to one vs. the other. Might be jealousy and a tweakin of the established members (competition and all that)
  16. That is not really true. I have tried to educate you on that. But BELIEFS can't be changed with facts. You believe that YOUR system is better and thus we should change.... You don't understand (or seem to want to know) the details. My basic belief is that I do NOT want my government regulating my life. I would most be seen as a libertarian . . . socialized ANYTHING does more to stifle progress
  17. Why are you so worried about our policies and government benefits? If you don't like it over here and have absolutely no desire to become an American, why do you care? JohnRich gets chastised for his comments against England cuz he's not English. How is this different? If we, as Americans, criticize other systems... we are viewed as interfering and imperialistic. If you want to be or are an American and you don't like the systems, then work within the system to make change.
  18. Many joyous and heartfelt thoughts for the celebration of your life! This year will be FILLED with many adventures!!! Enjoy! >:D<

  20. The original topic was about how Bush was going to single handedly save everyone from evil by eliminating the Pill. Not was the article was about Nor is it likely ever going to happen. EVER. If for no other reason than the $$$ in the pharmaceutical business. Remember... republicans like money. They're going to keep it. I did use myself as examples, because working in this field, I have DIRECT exposure to what was being cried about. I tried to clarify (although sometimes with GREAT difficulty) what the issues with abortion are. But... that did open myself and my practice up to criticism. But... honestly, as long as I am comfortable with my decisions and my patients are safe, the opinion of someone on the internet isn't as valuable. This thread has become quite a mess... talking not only about government money and religious discrimation, but also types and indications for abortions, and extenuating circumstances.... All that aside though... Time for me to go to bed.
  21. If a girl is raped and subsequently impregnated at the age of 14 (for example) would you still agree an abortion is unethical? would you take part in such a case. Just interested. it seems the pro-life standpoint is against frrwdom of choice, I am not saying that you personally are against choice as you have said thay you would give all the options, but if abortion is illegal then rape victems may be forced to reer the child of thier rapist. It is a touchy subject i know but a very real one also. But abortion is not illegal. And she still has the choice. This type of case truly depends on the situation. I can't say "yes" or "no." (but I would lean toward the "no") One of my closest patients and now one of my firends is a 19 year old that has had her second child. I delivered her first when she was only 14. She had excellent support from her mother. She was mature (HONESTLY! She is one of the most mature and responsible teenagers that I have ever known) She verbalized that she "wanted the baby." Even though she was a minor... she seemed to understand. And so did her mother. Now... lets look at this case as if I had patted her on the head and paternistically treated her as if she NEEDED an abortion. She would have undergone a surgical procedure (unless she was fortunate enough to be medically treated. . . but methotrexate on a 14 year old... most would do the D&C) That could cause physical problems in the future and emotional ones as well. So could the pregnancy. Don't get me wrong. PREGNANCY CAN BE DANGEROUS. But... can you tell me which is less traumatic to the patient? And are facilities with PROPER counselling and support systems in place be a better place for her to have that. KU might not have been the right place for her to have an abortion... but I think we took care of her very well with the pregnancy. If it was MY 14 year old daughter?! I wouldn't want the govenment to limit what she chose... but my thoughts are that her rights have been violated enough with the rape itself... I wouldn't want to add to her feelings of powerlessness by taking away her decision-making. If she decided to do that, I would take her to a place that was known for compassionate and nonjudgemental care. (and I would walk in with her for support.... but I would still personally mourn the babe... and my lil 14yo babe too)
  22. Personal attack? Some of your post directed at me could easily be viewed as personal attacks against either my morals or my capability as an OB/Gyn. Whether it was meant as such or not, how they were phrased was a bit ... off. I chose not to comment on them
