Hi JohnRich, who is "us" and of whose government's police are you talking? edited for correct wording Christel I know that you asked John, but I thought that I would help on this question... "Us" is "We, the People," the "common" person "The governments police" could be any form of ruling or enforcing unit (military, civilian police, brute squad)

For nausea, headache and an earache? Is he going to help you release some endorphins? Too bad that Dr. Drake Ramoray died when he fell down the elevator shaft.... he was cute. (yes, I know he was resurrected... but he was never quite the same)

Whether it be swords, guns, or box cuters, I just don't like "the government" deciding what I should and shouldn't own. Much of it's a trust issue. Why should "The government" trust me, and why should I trust "the government"? But, should there be limits and where should the limit be placed... I don't know. Skydekker made a good point that some reasonable controls are "useful." Do I trust Homer Simpson walking around with a Stinger or Mr. and Mrs. Smith with an accelerator in their backyard? But yet we trust the government and companies with that and more. I personally don't know Pier Oddone (current Director of the Fermi lab) nor James Dyer (Director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulations). But I have to trust that the government knew what they were doing when he was appointed. Could Homer be placed in either of those positions? I hope not!! I hope that their qualifications were based on their knowledge and expertise, but what about ethics? Did their interviews include an indepth eval of their beleifs. And who's judging them and their beleifs, more of "the governments" employees? What are their ethics? "The government" has made other foolish choices. More scary than nuclear stuffs... what about biologlogics? Everyone will agree that the thought of Suzie Homemaker playing around with smallpox in the kitchen is right out, but again ... lets look at the government. Colonel George W. Korch, Jr is the Commanding Officer at USAMRIID (U.S. Army Medical Research Institue of Infectious Diseases). Can I be confident on how that promotion occured? Again, I need to believe that he has the ability and integrity to handle that, but it's still just a trust issue. I was in the military myself... I've seen the peter principle at work. "The government" should be "the people." But it often times isn't. Yes, we, in America, are able to exercise our rights with voting, which empowers us with some decision making capability... but sometimes the way the bill is "sold" through the media will influence the vote. "We, the people" get lazy, then as they're watching Fear Factor tonight, they hear about an ad for Yaris and then another for a political advertisment . Now they think they're educated to make a decision... and don't do anymore research or self thought. And so the bill passes.... which helps to benefit the group that paid some of the $400 million for the ads. I liked this quote in V for Vendetta by Alan Moore So back to the question at the top... where to place limits? Who to trust to place limits? Why them? Much of it depends on where you draw the line between Anarchism and Independant Thought? Was Guy Fawkes right or wrong? Was George Washington a terrorist or a revolutionary? A lot more to debate here than just whether Duncan MacCloud should have his claymore.

"Ask Walt": Have Etiquette Questions? I have Answers!
kbordson replied to waltappel's topic in The Bonfire
Dear Walt, I have this slight problem. When I brush my pussy, she seems to drool a bit, so I've taken to brushing her outside on the porch. It's usually quite a commotion and the neighbor might get a bit offended wishing that I not make such a furball mess of it all. The question: Is it more polite to say "Fuck off" or better to take over burnt brownies made with real prunes as an apology? -
As I said in the pm... the "normal"s are just the average on a bell curve, you could just be outside of that value. But now, looking at your occupation... whether you have an elevated white count or not .... you should be aware of and get checked for things that you might have been exposed. (make sure that your annual TB is negative - not saying that's high on the list cuz it's not easy to catch TB, also keep up to date on immunizations - you do have Hep B vaccine, doncha?) Hope it all works out well.

"Ask Walt": Have Etiquette Questions? I have Answers!

Turtle... are you giving Walt all the information to answer this question appropiately? Did she specifically mention the "Happy Ending"? Or are you just assuming? Do you have any available meds to help with said injury (such as Flexeril, so that you can have better living through chemistry) How cute is your physical terrorist.... I mean therapist? Can you get both of them to "help your spasms"? All important info that might play into his answer..... -
In this context - Drunk dialing. But you might prefer your DD from a DD, but the DD of the party better not be doing DD when pulled over by the police http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=DD&defid=1914200

If one was to give head to a Southern or Brit.... is it proper for said person to wear Billy Bob teeth to make the receiver more comfortable and relaxed? (edit to make it seem a little less desperate ) -
One of my girlfriends likes to tell of the time that she got "suspended for unauthorized use of teeth." Her poor husband

Here's an image Mini 30 mag They do have a radius, but designed for 223 ammo. It would need a much more significant "banana shape" to use the 7.62. You could try to jerry rig something, but probably use an AK mag not an SKS mag.... even still it might not work.

NO! For SO MANY reasons! 1. I don't want to know what toys my friends have, nor do I want them to know what I use. Not that I don't know that they have toys... just don't want details. Personal space issues. (Also, what if in looking through the *ahem* toybox, you find issues of a fetish that you don't understand or agree with - could change the whole friendship) 2. Cleanliness and STD issues (there is a limit to what Bleach can do) 3. Ewwww issues Don't do it!! k.

It's not all "glitz." It does have some more flashy casinos (like Costners Midnight Star and Gold Dust ), but it also has smaller casinos with "rougher" interiors that aren't glamourized (April, those are the ones that I like too). And honestly those are the ones that I can sit at the table longest before loosing the $20 that I had allocated to that fun.... And I some times even win. The city itself is fantastic. I know 100 years isn't "Historic" to some of the non-US types, but it's cool looking at the (re-done) old buildings of Deadwood. And the culture of the town ... maybe not as much of a caricature as the show protrays, and maybe a little played toward the tourist but still rugged. It's also fun to walk up to the present Boot Hill (it's been moved a couple of times due to development and probably some landslide issues that the town has) And it surrounded by the Hills!!!! Hard to think of a better way to spend a day (besides skydiving) than to be relaxing in the Black Hills (yesterday, took some 4 wheelers out to some land of a friend of mine, trails through Spearfish Canyon, took the Tommy, an MP5

Enough of the show... I think I'm gonna go to the actual town tonight (or maybe tomorrow) (I honestly like the feel of Deadwood better than Vegas)

From what I've heard, the mags work fine in the Mini-14's. Not the mini-30 (mini 30 - shape of the mag was not designed to use a cartridge that has as much taper as a 7.62x39 so the rounds jam up in the mags) k.

"Ask Walt": Have Etiquette Questions? I have Answers!
kbordson replied to waltappel's topic in The Bonfire
But what was the etiquette question? Maybe "Is it proper to walk the length of the table with the boots on? Or is it more proper to take them off, get up on the table, walk the length, put them back on, then stamp in the corn flakes?" -
But my argument is that firearms weren't invented for killing. (re-read my post on the history of firearms) AND I still hold that OBJECTS can't be BAD, can't be EVIL. They are tools. The intent of people and the application of those tools (whether it be firearms, knives, cars, electric chairs, nukes, dildos, rigs, ect.) can be bad.
-
Amusing how you totally disregarded the technical aspect of the rest of the post. The part that actually explained why they weren't "killer projectiles." You asked a question, I gave an answer with undebatable proof, and you go off on a tangent by acting as if your superior cuz of course "we are talking about humans." I was just proving that your question had too many variables. And taking some solid data (bullet weight, type, distance) proved you wrong.

Rebels! Make a rule and we want to break it. Independant thought and efficient action. (any of those answers work?)

Dear Walt, When up at or near altitude and you relieve the pressure building in your colon only to realize that you have now soiled your jumpsuit, how do you politely try to convince the others on the load to go naked? -
Ok, so how comfortable would you feel standing in front of one then with someone aiming it at you? "Don't worry aout me, the ABL have considered it safe and non-lethal" Would I stand in front of it. Probably just to be stubborn , but I still refuse to fire my pistol/rifle or any firearm in a way that could potentionally harm another - lethal or not. (I got chided at the 1000yd range once because I could see one of the party in my scope and refused to fire. "You should be more sure of your shot." Bullshit. There are too many variables, espcially at that range, to risk it. Knowing where your target is, your backstop and other objects in the area is critical to safety.)
-
I still hold "no." History of Firearms So gunpowder and the first "gun" was "invented" by Roger Bacon as found in his Opus Majus in 1267. Intelluctual endeavor. Not for killing or lethality. I will grant that later designs were to use that purpose. (Man.... you make me actually work and research. And you have to go and post logical and factual stuffs. I think I love you!!)
-
Nope I wasn't, but I definatley got the impression from her posts (and correct me if I'm wrong) that she felt that guns were invented solely for killing and were bad. I still believe that guns are not the bad and evil object. I feel that they are a tool. One that a person can use for survival or harm. It's the intent of the person that can be evil. That's what I'm arguing. (stubbing toe in dirt... and she's the one getting snotty.... why do I feel guilty....stubbing toe)
-
Depends on what you're trying to kill. An elephant? A person? What bullet? What firearm? What distance? Honestly, lots of variables. All equally easy to caculate. Using a .22 target rifle. Bullet weight 40 gr. Energy at 1000yds - 26 foot pounds of energy and 537 feet/second. According to the ABL (US Army Ballistics Laboratory), anything with less than 100 foot pounds of energy and/or going less than 1700 feet/sec is considered safe and non lethal. So nope, not a "killer projectile." Now change the parameters and a nail from a nail gun can be a killer projectile.
-
"Killer projectiles"?! This phrase is all about generating emotion. Define this term. Man killer? Animal? Which animal? Kill with a "lucky hit" to the carotid (fairly unprotected, very vulnerable but very unlikley target) or a double tap to the head (more protected) Give a direct velocity or at least leave the press phrases out.
