Cool story - 48 states, 68mpg, nearly unmodified Jetta
kbordson replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
Thanks!! That was a very neat story!! Interesting that those tires truly made that much of a difference! But only 19 days?! Were they able to work in a stop at the "Largest Ball of Twine" or the "Corn Palace"? -
Do you believe yourself to be of above average intelligence?
kbordson replied to jcd11235's topic in Speakers Corner
I have decreased my natural limitations with education and training. I was not "gifted" enough to have an inate knowledge of the human body - I had to STUDY and FOCUS my attention. With an average intelligence, you could read and learn about just about any topic.... "just about".... I still don't know if I believe closed string theory or open.... maybe if I were more intelligent, I would just know. -but this is with not having ever taken a "real" IQ test. I have no desire to be "limited" or have "higher expectations" because of a number. -
Oh really? Which part of the world, f. e.? Perhaps, you just confused him with good old GWB? Yet again. To "both sides" This wasn't a "black eye" to President Obama. NOR was it a reflection on prior President Bush. But nice attempt to spin. Rio won. That's it. With what ever reasons they used - Rio was best.

I wrote a paper on the book you refer to in graduate school. While Grossman (I think his name is) has a lot of statistics on firing/hit rates from different wars throughout history, I found in doing my research that often he misinterpreted or misrepresented (I'm not accusing him of lying, just being sloppy) his sources. It is an ineresting book, but not super accurate in its conclusions (in my opinion - take it or leave it). Sorry to side track the conversation. I just remember being as interested as you seem to be in the book, until I took it apart, and found it historiographically weak. I can give examples if you're interested (which you're probably not). Cheers Zach Actually... to take this hijack just a step further. One of the reasons that firearms weren't as effective had to do with bureaucratic self-sabotage.... Misfire. The History of How Americas Small Arms has failed our Military is a good read.

Good point. But I don't think that Iran will be thinking "ya know... he lost the bid for the 2016 Olympics.... lets attack." He presented himself well. It was good PR. Chicago just didn't win.
-
OK.... really why should this reflect so poorly on ONE MAN?! President Obama went to support an international event and to show US commitment to such an event. Chicago didn't win. Was that more to do with Obama's failure or Bush's blah blah blah or.... Or was Rio HONESTLY the best bid? I personally don't know what those voting on used as criterion, but until someone can say that Rio won because President Obama did ". . . . ", then I will believe that Rio de Janeiro won because it was the best option. This wasn't a Republican or a Democrat thing. This was International. And MAYBE Chicago wasn't the best choice from an International standpoint. Why do we have to bring down someone just because someone else was "better"?

Fridays Haiku Week ends. . . Rest is come. Thankful reflection begins. Rest. . . to start again. Sun and fun and Sky Gathering of goddesses Chicks Rock... without me

The IOC is a bunch of racist, right wing, bigots! Wait what? What do you mean most aren't right wing, or even white? They have to be.......they disagreed with Obama ....... they have to be racist. And only right wingers are racist. [end sarcasm] AND[/B] they hate Japan too!! How dare they pick Rio!? oh wait... maybe Rio made the best bid? nah... couldn't be.

After going out of our way to thumb our national nose at the rest of the world from 2002-2008, it doesn't surprise me at all. So... are you seriously trying to blame this on President Bush too?! Is the former Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi to blame for Tokyo getting eliminated? GamesBids.com has more reliable information than your speculation and blame. President Lula Stirs More Emotion Than President Obama in Final Presentation

Ummm. Those weren't really mine. Dana Delaney gets that credit. I just thought that clip went with the post of "gets on my tits" and measuring butter.

well butter my breasts....

We actually didn't have a lot of drug reps. Medicaid didn't cover a lot of those meds so why stop by and drop off free samples? (now... we did have some. I do want to thank the Depo Lupron guys - that is an expensive med if the woman with endometriosis had to pay entirely out of pocket... having some samples for her was very nice) But they just mainly wanted a signature and were out the door.

OK. My perspective. With the clinic schedule that I had, I was CONSTANTLY trying to keep it "civil" (meaning no double booking new patients and appropriate time for appropriate types of appointments) BUT... someone calls and gives a sad story to the front office or someone needs a work in. OR ... I get called off to a delivery or to the ER or ... (I'm hoping that my new clinic will be even better at keeping that appointment booking) And as noted above the patients themselves throw the schedule off. Do you think that I can do a "well woman" appointment with a 15 year old that has never had a pap in the same time frame that it would take a 32 year old? And that's not predicable either. Sometimes the younger ones deal well with the speculum and the older ones have past issues that need to be discussed.... what about the 24 year old that hasn't yet shared with anyone about the rape last month or last year? Or the woman needing a lot of teaching about her STI issues. Most of the times, things go smoothly... but when patients take the attitude that he or she is the only one that is important... that's when a conflict begins. The doctor is NOT doing this to intentionally make you sit and wait and get madder and madder... rather he/she is just helping that "other" patient right now. There is A LOT more to medicine than just "cough" and write a rx for some antibiotic (or at least there should be a lot more) It's the doctors job to teach you about what is wrong and how to fix things.... for some, that takes a little longer. And... even WE wait. I waited over 45min for my scheduled orthopedic appointment last year (He's a really good ortho and I trust him). I waited over 8 hours in the ER at ZHills (yes, I had a trimalleolar fx but there was no blood splurting out). I don't expect to bump the line and just make all of "you" wait. I know how the system works and if someone needs the attention more urgently... I wait.

Mayor Bans Police Footchases (Dumbest politician alive)!

The hopes and goals of many a cop just dashed to the side.... Consider this dialogue: Now poor Nicholas would have to say "No" to ALL the questions!! -
Because I think that there is a cap on what you can collect. So they can't "tax" you to collect for money that you would never recover. You do realize that SS isn't not a bank, but a runs more like a form of insurance; yes? I do... but if there's a cap on what you can collect, then there's a cap on what you pay in - bank or insurance doesn't matter

Where's the "neither" option? Sometimes I go without a bra. Granted... I'm not overly busty, and when I do, I wear clothes that you really can't tell (tanks with multiple layers, loose sweaters) But... does it really matter? (I hate bras... their uncomfortable. the underwire cuts. it's a form of a corset .... not that I don't have corsets.... but I don't wear those everyday either.)

Honestly, this thread is insulting to those with Republican beliefs and to those that are autistic. (ya know... there are actually posters on this site with autistic children.) This is NOT "news" nor is it funny.

AC Separation/ Injury Clavicular Fractures OWIE!!! Sorry you hit the ground. I hope you feel better quickly

I'm curious what her blood sugars were running!! Or how that babe's lung maturity was doing? And can you IMAGINE trying to LIFT that kiddo out of that belly! You would HAVE to make that a vertical incision! No bikini cuts there! And the uterine incision would have to be classical - cleave that half in two to get that toddler out!! WOW!!!!!!! Poor Mommy!!!

So it's far better to discount any effort or work that you have done and just credit your success only to the kindness and graciousness of others that just decided to help you... but what about those that haven't succeeded? HOW MEAN of those that helped you not to not have helped those others?! [/mock outrage] Personally, I thank several people quite often. But... I'm not so arrogant to dismiss the success of others with a wave of the hand and causal comment about how they must be knaves or fools. Either remarkably poor reading comprehension for a well educated person, or missing the point deliberately. Nice. It's like there's a pretense of refinement, but with very poor "play with others" skills. Those that are successful should not be mandated kowtow to hoi polloi. Likewise... when life isn't what you want, you shouldn't resort to blaming everyone that is "rich and privileged." It's YOUR life. Do something with it. - honestly, I find your comment quite insulting to those with real talent/ amazing intelligence/ driven work ethics.... to those that are "successful" in life. Whether that insult is so annoying to me that it's blinding me to your point or you really have no point other than to just say "be thankful," I don't know. But it does seem to me like you are belittling their success.

I think Elsie is a great boy cat name... and I'm sure she would LOVE Sebastian!!!

Evening Citygirl06, so... you just registered tonight. Welcome!! I see that your first (and only) post was to direct a leading question to further this conversation. Interesting. btw... Ion01, I was amused by the thread. not many will see the parallels or get the humor, but good effort. Must have taken some time to do.

Do you really think there are only 50000 births on this planet every 365 days? Here . . . this may explain it more. They do list the death rate. In Ion01's defense, the cut and pasted segment didn't list anything about net/gross and stated that there were 50,000 in 6 hours (not 365d) So maybe he just decided not to go to alt.net or where-ever. . . but even if he had gone to newscientist.com, he would have read that But... that wasn't listed in the first post....
