  1. Good post. I am glad that some people understand. Sometimes my own family makes me want to pull my hair out.... When I tweaked my ankle a year ago, they (my sisters/brother in law) were just looking at who I could "blame" for my injury or for needing that second surgery. A lot of times, people look to their physician to "tell me what to do." When what they really should be getting is education and options. LIFE has risks. Taking tylenol can burn out your liver. Taking aspirin can "thin your blood." If you go to the ER for abdominal pain and all test that are done are suspicious for "x." You were told what the possible diagnosis was and consented for surgery. So you have surgery on that "ectopic" or that "appendicitis" or .... but the findings of the surgery was that everything is normal.... is that a "medical misadventure"? Or you have that surgery on the ectopic, but a ureteral injury occurs (a risk that was on the consent that was signed)
  2. So it's far better to discount any effort or work that you have done and just credit your success only to the kindness and graciousness of others that just decided to help you... but what about those that haven't succeeded? HOW MEAN of those that helped you not to not have helped those others?! [/mock outrage] Personally, I thank several people quite often. But... I'm not so arrogant to dismiss the success of others with a wave of the hand and causal comment about how they must be knaves or fools. Some people are absolutely BRILLIANT - and although schools might have "helped" some... it doesn't help all. Some people are AMAZINGLY SKILLED - and even without a Steinway Louis XV Grand. Some people WORK REALLY HARD to provide the best service - even with barriers put in front of them.
  3. Yup. No debate to be had here. Just a series of "you should thank..... your parents, your spouse, your teachers, your co-workers, the soldiers for your ability to voice opinions that can't be proven, the construction workers for building the road, the people at McD's (even if you never eat there, cuz SOMEONE DOES... and that way YOU don't have to cook for EVERYBODY), the hairdressers, tired TV producers, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, management consultants, telephone sanitizers... even that that poor homeless person that stands in front of Starbucks" NOBODY deserves what they have cuz it was ALL just given to them by "the masses" If you have ANYTHING - you OBVIOUSLY didn't work for it. You ABSOLUTELY don't deserve it. And you can bet someone would be MORE THAN WILLING to take it from you to help you with your "burden" of unearned success. NOTE: this is ALL sarcasm - spelled that out
  4. You can't really "prove" that belief. (whether you say 90%, 99% or 99.999999999999999999999%.) You can just say "prove me wrong"... which is not the same as being right.
  5. i agree we are spending to much money on things here in Iraq but not from what you think. We spen millions a week on things like KBR, TCN's andshit we dont need. KBR does all our electrical work and we have had over 100 soldiers killed in showers due to faulty electrical. Not to menetion paying some firefighter 90-150k per year to sit around and do practicly nothing. Oh im sorry they had 1 fire so far the rest of the time they tell us we cant have privacy curtains in our rooms. We can save billions just by letting the military take care of ourselves, let our cooks cook, our firefighters fight fires, so on and so forth. We wast to much bringing contractors to do our work for us. Now ideas like THAT is what we need to pass on to government cuts. - not the drama cries from those that just want to yell "Fuck Boeing."
  6. I have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Please show me where I posted a personal attack? If you mean my true and well felt outrage over the obscene comments about women with personal trauma... yeah, there was disgust. But it wasn't a personal attack. So show the personal attacks.
  7. Wow. You've got it so wrong. So you know nothing about me. You have no idea about my family or upbringing. You have no clue as to my current patient population.... but yet you say that I would be an "ax wielding maniac"?! Wow. But, hey. It's your version of reality. Live it as it makes you happy.
  8. Have I ever had sex with?! What does that have to do with ANYTHING? How do I know? I am looking to volunteer time at one of those clinics. I have currently only gone on medical mission in South America, but plan for the next one to be with the incontinence clinics in South Africa. (still confused by the "have I ever had sex with?!")
  9. Right. That's why women with obstetrical lacerations and subsequent fecal and urinary incontinence are kicked out of their tribes.
  10. Yes you can. It's called grave robbing.
  11. I don't see a lot of realistic vigor on your part to cut the military. Kinda like the people saying single payer is bad, but something has to be done, so let's just wait. I read you as saying you want to maintain the military. Cutting bases, cutting troops via attrition w/o replacement, cutting contracts for killing machines. Oh. So, I guess that you want me jumping up and down saying "Fire those lazy Army grunts. I don't care about what they do in life. Just as long as they're not a burden to the American people." Or maybe I should be saying "Fuck Boeing. Who needs airplanes anyway?" "I read you as saying" means that I'm going to interpret what you so to fit what I want it to say.
  12. Even with having no children... I have to argue against that comment. If I make money... I should be able to decide to be buried with it, give it to my husband, give it to my mom, give it to my invisible unicorn named "Bob". . . It's MY property. Why should all my property be forfeit to the state on my demise? Does it make me a little jealous to see rich kids inherit daddy's (or mommy's) company? Yes. I rose up from lower middle class... and a part of me is annoyed that others "get it free." But it's not my place to take theirs away just because I want it. That's called stealing
  13. AGAIN The Government as ALREADY limited that option for those who take medicare. You are NOT ALLOWED to charge less than you charge to medicare. They call that Fraud. Now... some facilities DO have a sliding scale. They don't take medicare patients. And you have to bring in a pay slip or proof of income for that sliding scale.
  14. Again... I'm NOT saying that it shouldn't be cut. Just how and where. Those details are the the problems. It's easy to say "let's save money" - but you have to realize that there are intended and unintended consequences to that decision.
  15. Agreed. Yes and no. There are places already where services are provided on a sliding scale basis. HOWEVER, if you take Medicare, you are not allowed to charge a private pay patient less than you are taking for medicaid. The government itself has messed this up. edit to change medicaid to medicare.
  16. I think it would be more accurate to say that more people want a viable public transportation system to have as an option to owning and/or operating a private vehicle. How long to you think everyone else will be able to afford the gas, when the public transportation system you cites gets their fuel for free? To use this analogy - we currently have public transport. Problems: The buses here in Kansas City have limited routes and the wait time is a bit longer than what people desire. So, the public option is still well used.... (no concern with fuel competition) To fix that problem, we could supply buses to the entire city, covering every subdivision and suburb... but the cost becomes the issue.
  17. That's like saying a motorola Razr cellphone that costs $49 is better than a Samsung cell phone that's free. It might be a little better, but not much, and there are still better phones out there (iPhone, Blackberry, etc). Then why would you be opposed to a government option? People that can't afford expensive insurance would be covered, and you could still choose to spend money on your private insurance that is, according to you, so much better. People that can't afford insurance CAN get coverage. I take care of them daily. And I've listed some of the concerns that I have about that system
  18. I'm not saying that our system isn't broke. Just that I have some reservations about the plans in place.
  19. But how and what do you cut? Decrease the fighting force - unemployment. Close bases? Then Rapid City will loose a lot as will many other small cities near military bases. Decrease the production of the fighters/bombers - government bailout for Lockheed? Decrease the production of small arms? what about Remington, Colt? And what about now not having supplies for the forces currently fighting? I completely agree. The military is TOO BIG. But where and what?
  20. (ppppst - I've been to "third world countries" that have national health care. It's not as great as you think. I want better than that for our country - but I have other demands too. Privacy and right to choose are on the top of the list. I also don't want to federalize the entire medical system - I have been in the military already, I separated for a reason. It's not all about "I got mine.")
  21. Wouldn't those be two totally unrelated statements unless you were there at the time. About a 4th of my ancestry is Irish/Scottish - therefore I know something about potato famine Due to the ancestry, I have taken interest in this topic. I have actually researched the case (including reading of the background of the community at the time, the accusations and charges, the defense and the examinations related to the trial itself.) So, yes. I know something about witch hunts. What have you researched about the potato famine? It wouldn't be that hard - the blight was only 150 years ago, the fungus was Phytophthora Infestans, the cure is CuSO4. You could know something about it. But you have chosen not to. But are you even aware that potatoes are not even indigenous to Ireland? Or are you saying that only with being actually present do you know anything about anything? Well then... only 12 people know anything about the moon. For all the rest of us, it might be made of cheese.
  22. Then you better take the GPS transmitter they have hidden within your brain cavity or the helicopters will keep following you. Seriously? This is your comeback? Truly a master debater
