I've been trying to convince some of my teammates to take a trip there when we get home next year but they all say the same thing, "dude I don't like asian chicks" History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Don't mind at all.Quote BTW what's that on your boob in your avatar?? Or you could just let me have fun figuring itout for myself, post pics in high res of both so I can compare and get an accurate guess History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. well if ya don't mind I'll PM you when you get home and snag a few details from you, I'd love to hear about where you went, best wishes on the rest of your trip. Just be careful with what you take home from the bar, I heard those hot chicks if you're into them(not that there's anything wrong with that) can turn out to be boys History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. It would more than likely have been the same result but there sucked. Quote If it had gone past round three, Tito would have taken it I believe. He was keeping the pace up and his conditioning is far better, not to mention they were trading off rounds and I think the decision would have come down to the final round, which falls back on conditioning. Just my take on it. Pays to be a runner History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Hope your ankle heals. So how were you finding you way around over there, you have a guide, or friend, or just kind of hackin it out on your own, I was thinking about visiting their next year. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

I finally gave in and watched it, I originally found no reason to but curiosity finally got the est of me. In GQ's case and other special forces units.. he brings up team co heasion as an excuse they are built on esprit de corps.. and being SPECIAL...duh.. so when all that macho chest thumping of how SPECIAL their group is because they can do something no one else could possibly do....all that macho doo doo goes right down the tube because a woman comes along and can do the same jump out of planes.. swim the 5 miles run the many many milkes with the heavy load on her back...etc.....pass the same quals the guys can both physically and mentally.... so does that make her any less special... or does it make them any less of a MAN??? You say this like no woman ever says anything that degrades men, this goes both ways. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

I'm really interested if you have a reasoned approach to that viewpoint or if it's just an "impression" or "feeling" or " assumption". Quote maybe it's all based on female ego's History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Make ANY kind of fraterization grounds for getting shipped immediately to the crappiest place on earth.Quote This would have negative ramifications though, for both sexes, someone doesn't like the other person say you got touched inappropriately and away they go, people would be so worried about what they say it would make the work environmnet unfriendly. As I mentioned previously, one of the things that makes these units so cohesive is that the guys share a tight bond, that's not saying they can't bond with women, but the ones who volunteer for SF units and such are the classic "alpha male" types, they like to go into work and spend the day talking shit to their buddies, I can hang with the best of em when it comes to talking shit but every once in a while even I have to step out of the room and get some air because someone took it too far. This is one aspect where I will agree that the male ego comes into play, these guys thrive off of the "boys club" attitude and this is one of the things that makes us so tight at work, i wouldn't want anyone to come in that would break it up, we have put guys off of the team simply because they had an attitude that didn't work out with the rest of the team, when you are this tight you ca't let anything come between you. And, if you saw some 130 pound soldier do that during your qualification testing, wouldn't you be proud to have him OR her on your team Quote Actually I'm glad you brought this up bro, we have a team medic, I think he tips the scales around 160 soaking wet, this guy is a physical anomaly though, capable of carrying anyone on the team if he has to, not to mention the best damned medic I have ever had the pleasure of working with, he obviously has a bit of trouble when it comes to mixing it up with bigger guys though, but I'll be damned if he doesn't have heart, and still manages to scare a few people in the process I love that little Canadian, he's tied with Neal Houston for being my favorite Canadian History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. The size and intimidation factor I don't think is even valid. The toughest man I know is about the third my size and if I didn't know him I would abolsutely doubt he could do anything to harm me.....many have made that same mistake. Quote This shows that you didn't even read my post, rather you have an assumption in your head about what I will say and twist anything I write to match that assumption. I was speaking about being so intimidating that you inspire people to not put up a fight, I have rolled through so many people downrange without ever firing a shot at them, and the biggest reason was because they were too scared to fight. One of my buddies ran into a room screamed at the guy we were after and he was so scared he pissed himself and fainted, my buddy is a 215 pound former bodybuilder and very intimidating. Had that guy not passed out who knows if he would have reached for a weapon, I'm actually glad we didn't have to find out. The traditional roles of men and women in our society exist for the benefit of some and the control of others. What it comes down to is this: You were socialized to believe and act in certain ways concerning gender difference and (sincerely, I believe) don't want a system familiar and comfortable to you to change. Quote So no matter what justification there is for not wanting the change it's all because ego? I feel I did a good job of explaining who does or doesn't belong in certain roles, if I were to resist a 130 pound woman being put on my team would that only be because of how I was raised and that I simply accept what people tell me? Or would the fact that I weigh around 180-185 and I'm the second smallest guy on the team in terms of bodyweight play into it a bit? Just because the woman did enough pushups, situps, and runs fast enough to meet the fitness standards can she really throw me over my shoulder when I'm sometimes upwards of 230 with my kit on? That is my bigest reason, I have countless others which are all justified, and none of those reasons are along the lines of "well she just can't because she's a girl". If I somehow misunderstood your post I apologize, this was how I read it though. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

DUI, traffic deaths, and police indifference
GQ_jumper replied to 1969912's topic in Speakers Corner
A few years back in my radio days I was checking out the reports at the city police department & came across a report of a guy arrested for drunk driving. He had blown something like a .03 or so. I asked the desk clerk why he had been arrested, given the fact that he had complied with the law. (The report did not indicate any other behavior that would have justified police action.) She gave me some line of crap about being "less safe" to drive. Either 1) she was bullshitting me, 2) the cop did have a valid reason for the arrest but didn't think it necessary to write it in the report, or 3) this guy was being hassled for reasons only the cops will ever know about. Neither choice inspires confidence nor respect. Quote Doesn't that fall under a lesser charge, like driving while impared as opposed to driving under the influence? I thought if you were under the limit but still driving irresponsibly you can still be charged if the officer feels you aren't in a good enough condition to drive, I have seen people that lose it after one drink, they are under the limit but have no buisness being on the road. Should just be equal standards, set at the right level for the job that is needed.Quote ok then, let's have equal standards, and let's make them higher, they are far too low for any part of military service, they have been lowered to make out of shape dirtbags wearing the uniform feel better about themselves, and then we'll see how many people, male or female, are fit to be soldiers, let alone serve in combat positions. and as for the male ego part, look at some of my posts on here last night, it's not a male ego thing, show me a group of women who can use brute force to kick down a steel door then run inside and start tossing big guys on the ground that are unarmed but still putting up a fight, there are some out there but they are few and far between, and also like I mentioned before when you are up close and personal there is an intimidation factor that comes into play, and if a male insurgent is standing in a room armed and so nervous he is on the verge of throwing down his weapon who do you think is going to inspire him to throw that weapon down, a 215 pound man screaming at him, or a female far smaller than himself? There are countless reasons as to why women should not be in direct combat roles, and none of them have to do with my ego, they perform excellently in the jobs they hold I take nothing away from them, but there is no place for them on the front line. Yep you would think it would be a no brainier Quote would be nice to see equal standards across the board, but it would mean they would either have to lower the standards for men, which is BS because they are already too low, or raise the standards for women, and there would be countless people who suddenly failed to meet the standard and complain that it's too high. I'm only speeking of fitness standards here, but you get my point. IMO the fitness standards need to be raised for both sexes regardless. when there are hundreds, more likely thousands of jets scrambles in the decade before 9/11 with an average time of 10-20 min for off course flights. on 9/11 we have 4 hijacked planes, planes stricking builings during an hour an a half with no jets scrambled. this is the largest terrorist attack on america in history and no jets were scrambled for an hour and a half when normal intercept time is 15 min. the references(quotes from the military) for these claims have been posted in the other thread. Quote just a quick side note on the jet scrambling aspect, what would jets "entercepting these planes have done? maybe the one headed towards the pentagon would be shot down, maybe, but the ones flying over NYC, the jets would have done little more than escort them to the WTC. So why does this even matter? History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Iraq vs. Civil War of the United States of America
GQ_jumper replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree there too. I think the fact that there will be a lot more killing in Iraq is now pretty clear. Our remaining decision concerns how much american killing there will be. Quote I can't remember exactly what the numbers were, but to the best of my knowledge a fairly good number of the insurgents were foreign that we dealt with the second time I was there, obviously it depends on what part of the country you are in, I'll dig around at work tomorrow and see if I can find any hard numbers I can post here, or maybe I'm just making thing up, who knows with m as for the civil war, this thing was waiting to happen whether we were here or not, at some point there would have been someone in power who didn't maintain control of the Shia and it would have broken out. What I'm really curious about is how much US forces are taking part in dealing with the civil war as opposed to just fighting insurgents, I should be getting my legal briefs this month, as of yet I haven't heard anything on this. Army sergeant refuses third Iraq tour
GQ_jumper replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
My point is that he served two tours and was honorably discharged. Now the Army is saying none of that matters. Get you ass back RIGHT NOW! Quote When he was discharged he was released from active service, he was still fully obligated to finish his time in the inactive ready reserve, and he was fully aware of this. So basically he's bitching about having to do what he signed up for. It sucks but it's called living up to your committment, which apparently is something a lot of people take lightly nowadays, you only have to live up to the terms of a contract you sign if you agree with them Try talking to my buddy from Ft. Bragg just wrapping up his fifth tour, he's been trying to have enough time at home for years now to have a daughter but can't seem to stay home long enough to get the job done. Or my teammates stepping out for round four in a another two months, we have kids that have just showed up to the team, haven't gotten a single chance to train with the team and are rolling out with us leaving a wife and kid behind in a new city. Again, it sucks given that guys personal situation, but he has to be a man of his word, it's sad when society openly accepts people not living up to their contractual agreements, and further some people even call them brave. Army sergeant refuses third Iraq tour
GQ_jumper replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
The military is abusing it's legal right to require enlistee's to serve additional tours. Quote I don't see how you would consider this to be true, when you join the military you join to go wherever they send you, if the military really qanted they have very right to keep you in combat for your entire enlistment, there is nothing stating legal limits to being in combat. and this guy did agree to be part of the IRR when he enlisted, everyone who signs up does, there's an entire page in the contract just covering this part. There is no "abuse" of legal rights anywhere, they either have the right or they don't, and right now we are engaged in a conflict and they have every right to make people serve multiple tours or call them back so long as they are within their window.
