  1. i've been in remote areas with little to no buildings around and been told that air support will be near impossible to get unless its our only other option, when i'm saying these things its coming from personal experience. keep in mind though i'm down on the ground in the shit, i don't know the people that make the decisions about when an airstrike on a suspected location is cool and when it isn't, i just know that a lot of the time we are told its not gonna happen. i can say though, that airstrikes aren't called in because there was an unconfirmed report of insurgents there. it takes a lot more solid evidence before that's allowed. i can't get into the details of it but trust me it takes a lot more than you think just to convince someone to let us kick down a door to arrest a guy let alone take out the house. 2. So who is blowing off all these car bombs which aren't against military targets? I'll bet it aint Iraqis. I'd wager it is some third party . Quote too bad i rolled a guy up a few days ago that was an iraqi and was responsible for killing innocent civilians. and i've been doing much the same for the better part f 7 months now. care to try again. And to your question, ousting SH is our legal reason for being here, just because you don't personally agree with the war doesn't make it illegal. But last time I checked that wasn't the topic of this thread, so how bout taking that one elsewhere. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower
  3. You know when I first joined the army there was only one thing that mattered to me. And that was EARNING a black beret. I wanted one but I wanted to work for it, I wanted to put in the blood, sweat, and commitment to EARN my right to wear it. And I did, and I wore it with pride, I was in awe every time I saw it hanging on my wall. Then it's given to the rest of the military, the first time I saw some disgusting fat f%ck of a shitbag soldier that proabaly couldn't even pass the two mile run in time wearing it I wanted to rip his god d@mn spine out. And pretty much since then the sense of pride I once had for my accomplishments has run out. Things like that which reminded me of my accomplishments and dedication once motivated the hell out of me, and made me want to do my job better and better, and now they mean nothing to me. It truly was heart breaking to see people put the beret on their head even though it meant nothing to them, just another thing they had to buy for their uniform. The Army took something that many great men wore with distinction and it now sits on the desk of every finance officer, cook, mechanic, truc driver, whatever, they take no pride in it, I've seen ones with the flash so greasy and dirty it was solid black and they don't care, they don't take the time to shave and shape them and wear them as they should. Every Ranger I saw wearing one kept it in immaculate condition, and took good care of it. BS like this is why I'm getting out, not simply because I want my special hats to myself, but because the Army has completely lost focus on whats important. Quote they stopped that, i emailed them three times about it and they didn't respond for like 3 months, right after they had stopped the discount for soldiers History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. they are not really that stupid, they could have killed/got rid of him with a very small elite army. there was no need for the actions taken to remove him from power. Quote how do you know what a small elite army could've done, if you didn't know there were countless assasination attempts against SH during his time as dictator. and obviously he survived all of them. so the guy boviously knows a little something about surviving. and you are saying that by killing him al Iraqi troops would have thrown down their arms and welcomed us. the army would've continued to fight. most likely that news would not have even gotten to the Iraqi soldiers, and if you remember we did try and take him out before we crossed the border, but he wasn't in the bunkers he was reported to be in. 10. I understand war, that civilians will be killed. But to not reconize that the US does and will drop a bomb on a residential neighborhood because of "reports" that insurgents or 1 insurgent is present, is taking the head in the sand position. Quote And you are an expert on military doctrine why? Oh that's right you watch the news and listen to the reports that means you know exactly what our engagement criteria and ROE are. During the invasion airstrikes were only used against military targets, such as to take out SH, or military instiallations. Now that we are in the counter-insurgency role it is near impossible to call in an airstrike. And if you do try to call one in the restrictions placed on you are insane, these restrictions are meant to minimize collateral damage. Air strikes will only be used in the event of troops in contact, taking direct fire from a location that cannot be reached by those on the ground. a report of a single insurgent will be answered by a force moving on the building to capture that person, or kill if resistance is met. We don't kill them simply because they are insurgents, a live insurgent does more good than a dead one. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 11. the tunnel definitely makes you work harder, some of the little mistakes that you don't really notice you are making in freefall will become a lot more noticable in the tunnel. so you'll have to have a much better flying style for the tunnel which in turn translates into better skydiving. the tunnel rox History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 15. take a look at my jump numbers before you read my post here it's probably not the answer you're lookin for but like a few other people in here have mentioned, learn to adjust the fall rate without the help of a suit. i wear a close fitting rw suit made out of nylon, and weigh 235 out the door, according to a pro track i've dropped to 95 before while still bein able to manuver. once you can start adjusting fall rate then get a suit that makes it easier to get to the fall rate you want so the skill is still there when you need to use it. i also jump at a dz that 5500' MSL so for me learning fall rate control was a necessity and i put a lot of jumps right after i got my a license into just fall rate control. i'm still far from having it down but learning to fly with scrawny people wearing freefly suits while i'm in a rw suit hsas definitely sped up the learning curve!! 17. i'm not too sure the momentum of hitting the water would help with a back flip, front flip yes, couple swoops come to mind where i've seen beautiful "front flips" through the risers. so if that's whats going to happen then anytime someone slams into the water and flip through their lines from now on they can claim it was a freestyle move as long as they make it out of the water right History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. 18. To complicate the argument even further, if you are swooping in a strong downwind then you want to transition to toggles much earlier. Quote I'm a little curios were you heard this. and is there anyone else who agrees with it and would expand a little more on it? 19. I have seen vids of crw guys swinging upside down and hookin their feet on the risers so they are upside down, little bit of momentum by swining your legs might be enough to get all the way over. my question would be isn't it likely that the brake lines could get pinched between the risers not allowing the pilot to flare. or is the pilot planning on dropping the toggles and going straight to rears History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. A couple of the guys I've had to live with the last 6 months of being in Iraq leave their loofas, washcloths, and half used bars of soap in the shower all the time and it annoys the hell out of me.
