  1. I was about a minute late to class once after finding out during break that one of my close friends had attempted suicide and was in the hospital. I explained this to my teacher who then gave me a detention for being late. I didn't serve the detention as a protest, and consequently ended up getting 3 days of suspensions as I kept refusing to serve the detention. I was so pissed about that. My teacher and the principals knew why I refused to serve the detention but didn't care. It was bullshit, I was a pretty good kid, didn't cause trouble and got good grades. They were being pricks. 2. I wish they would close the UW in Seattle. The Bothell and Tacoma branches are closed/delayed. Nobody is out on the roads near my house, everything is solid ice. I don't want to drive in this stuff (because I'm not that good at it and don't need an accident!) but I don't want to skip classes today either. Arggh! I wish they would give some consideration to the commuters. Even the bus routes are closed. Edited to add a picture of our dog enjoying the snow. 3. Go to a dentist! There is no alternative. Don't neglect your teeth! I'm sure that the pain relief will be worth your copay amount. When I got my wisdom teeth out I was put completely under, came home, took a 20 minute nap and then washed and waxed my car and laid out in the sun the rest of the day. (This was in highschool.) If I had needed to be responsible and care for horses or something I could have totally gone and done that. (I probably should have had someone drive me for something like that though.) Obviously I don't know how you respond to anestesia, but the recovery from the surgery was waaayy minimal for me. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  4. I made several sets of wine charms for Jeff's people. I think they are nice. I also make some gourmet jams/jellies each year too. People seem to like those. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  5. I voted other because my reply is hell no. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  6. My dog does that too, all the time! Our dog was up on our bed one evening getting scratched before bed time when he shot a snot rocket that landed on my face and got on my teeth (I had been smiling.) I just kept on smiling and went straight to the bathroom to rinse the snot off my face. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  7. Yeup. I love to randomly throw out that number in response to various questions and see who else is a hitchhiker geek. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  8. How did you ask the packer to pack your parachute? I've had people ask me to pack their parachutes in ridiculous ways- ways that I feel are less safe than the way that I pack. I refuse to honor those requests. However, I consider that good customer service, even if the customer isn't happy with it. But since the knee injury, I'm officially not a packer anymore. How nice.

  10. I'm at school and working in a lab right now. Then I have my last physical therapy appointment.. and then I get to cook all evening. I'm so giddy that I get to go home and drink wine and bake pies that I'm actually not grumpy about having to attend classes. 11. Hoorayy!! Now how many of you have to work/go to school and then come home and cook all night to get ready? And why don't we have today off? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  12. I've worn a shirt backwards for the better part of a day, several times. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  13. I'm good at transcribing speech (using the international phonetic alphabet) and detecting error patterns. Oh.. and I'm damn good at packing parachutes. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  14. I would have her go see a doctor about controlling her asthma right away. Personally, my triggers are stress, colds, the cold, exercise, allergies and.. that is probably it. I pretty much can never exercise in the cold. A year ago due to some really stupid lifestyle decisions my asthma flared up horribly and it was really scary. I had to get put on a course of oral steroids twice in several months to get my system back to normal before a medicine like advair (taken twice daily to prevent attacks) would work for me. I had asthma attacks that woke me from my sleep several times and probably should have had my boyfriend take me to the hospital on one or two occasions. My asthma has been very well controlled since then with advair taken twice daily and my rescue inhaler which I rarely use.. maybe several times per month and sometimes as a preventative measure before I go exercise. I also control my allergies very well with allegra and rhinocort (a nasal spray) taken daily. She really needs to take her asthma seriously and perhaps start doing some self-monitoring on a peak flow monitor. (I think that is what it is called, it is basically a tube that you exhale into that indicates lung capacity or something.) She should consider getting a flu shot this year as asthma can complicate the flu. Anyways.. take this seriously now, even if you don't like doctors. There are medicines out there that are very effective, and personally, I don't experience any side effects. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  15. I think it is ridiculous how many men have posted saying that they are offended when a women breast feeds in public. You want the woman to go find a more private place? Quite often their only option is a disgusting public rest room with no place for them to sit down and be comfortable. I don't think we should force women who are trying to be good mothers to quarantine themselves to bathroom stalls. And women can't always be discreet and cover everything with a blanket when they breastfeed. Sometimes the baby doesn't like it, or they are having trouble getting the baby to properly latch on. (Which can cause a whole host of problems if you're not aware.) If you don't feel comfortable seeing a woman breast feed, then don't look. It's that simple. Don't whinge and say that she should go do it someplace private. I'm sure if there were breastfeeding lounges available in most public places, that women would gladly want to go in there. But there aren't. So you uptight folks will have to avert your eyes and get over your perversion. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  16. I have bad knees and had to get surgery to correct my right knee cap from constantly dislocating and to repair the damage that that had done. Edited due to too much wine. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  17. My favorite is either the candied yams or the stuffing. This year I am going to a skydiver thanksgiving and am bringing butternut squash pie (I like it better than pumpkin pie), home-made rolls, a cheesecake that my beau is making, and a thanksgiving salad with pomegranate, persimmons, pecan and endive. Yuuuuuummmmyyy! I already had a warm-up thanksgiving when my big brother was in town. We hadn't had thanksgiving together in so long, so we had a thanksgiving-ish meal with roasted pork-tenderloin, cornbread stuffing with apples, fennel and sausage, the persimmon salad, and butternut squash pie. It was really cool.
  18. Good luck with your PT. Make sure to be diligent with your home therapy program and to tell your PT if you feel like you're not being challenged enough. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  19. Yeah, whoops. I always forget to add the top part of my exclamation points. I just cover it up with an air of mystery over what exactly I'm getting at and then hope that people don't notice. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  20. You guys are great! I think my physical therapists and the PT assistants rock!! I'm trying to get them all to come skydiving to celebrate my recovery... a couple of them are considering it. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  21. Ellipsis.. that's right! I knew there was a good word for that. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  22. That will be hard!!! I think I'll be a wussy and butt slide it in for a little bit. I was going to wash my rig while I was on hiatus.. now I'm glad that I didn't. However, I might borrow someone else's rig for the first jump so to ease my worries.. a 95 might be a tad small. I just hope we have about 4 k this weekend.. that's all I need! 24. That I was cleared to skydive!!!!!!!!! HOOOOOORAAAAAYYYY!!!!!!! In fact.. he didn't just clear me.. he advised me to go make a jump and then come back and report how my knee felt while I was doing it. If things go well, then PT is done. 2 months and 2 days after major knee surgery and I'm advised to go skydive! I can't believe how fast I recovered!
