I totally agree with you Kelly and I know Spy does too. He has had discussions about iot and knows to pull at 3k max. I was just sticking up for the guy because yes he is new but he knows the safety requirements and he does not go low all the time and knows not to even do it some of the time until he way a few hundred more jumps. That is why I said case closed. No disrespect. But I can see where you are coming from for others who read it. Pull high unless it is an absolute emergency. I am always open by 2,5k. My hard deck is 2k. Nathan

Yes, he knows what he is doing. He has a small amount of jumps yet it is supervised with instructors making sure everything is safe. He passed his AFF within like 7 jumps completing each dive flow and standing up every landing. His 12th jump was a 10 Way Instructor Supervised. Who else has done that. He is also a Commercial Pilot. So he is not the everyday skydiver. Case closed. Nathan

The best bet is if you are going to get a new canopy, do a hop and pop or pull way high a few times to find out your average opening rate. Do not go down to 2,000 on a new canopy or really any canopy for that matter. Why are you going so low. The difference between pulling at 3k and 2k are just a few seconds. Do not let those seconds kill you due to a malfunction. Have you had a mal before. If not you really do not know how you will handle it so always leave room for errors. Nathan

I have a Spectre that snivels a long way and I make sure I am open at 2k. Even after larger rw's I do a barrell track and am always clear by 2,8k to deploy. Sounds to me like you are waiting too long. The only way to find out is when your Cypres opens and you have two canopies. Pick a harddeck and maintain it. Especially being new. Nathan

On a serious side I had this problem too. Before you lay it on the ground get as much air out as possible. Simply and softly lay the canopy on the ground instead of whipping it up and throwing it. If you are soft there is not a lot of air that goes into it. Then gently pack it squeezing the air out with you stomach. Clay uses pelvis thrusts but I don't. Nathan
