Yup. Happens to me all the time. I buy lightbulbs by the case. Sometimes they burn out just from me looking at them. I glance over and ...pop! Used to think it was faulty wiring in my house, but it happens no matter where I am, not just at my house (of which I've had several. They say that just the act of observing something changes it. In our case I think focusing our attention on it screws them up somehow. I'm only glad that its just lightbulbs

Dude, they cant make their recomendations based on the 999 units out of 1000 that continue to operate reliably after 12 years, they have to make their recomendation with regard to the 1 unit that failed. I know the person that may end up with that one unit will agree with this :-) Nobody ever claimed that the Cypres will instantly begin to fail at 12 years and one day. Most of them are probably still quite safe. They are concerned with the few that fail, not the many that are still OK (for an unknown amount of time) Oh, by the way, they are allowed to make money too. Thats why they are in business. Are they motivated in part by the bottom line? Sure thing. I dont have a problem with that. Just as a side note, and not intended as a personal attack, but if you are truely as you represent in this thread, I'd give real serious consideration before I stepped onto an aircraft owned or maintained by you. Its my belief that fear abatement is exactly what thats all about. Whether or not it should be that way is really irrelevant. Its not likely to change unless peoples fundimental nature changes. I completely understand what you are saying, however I think the only thing you will accomplish by railing against it is to make yourself less content

While this may in fact be true for you, it doesnt follow that its true for everyone. Some people need to discuss something before they can really grasp it in a way thats meaningful or beneficial for them. Its great that this is not the case for you, but we are all different and not everyone can simply be presented with the cold hard facts and have it benefit them. They NEED to turn it around and look at it from every angle and talk to others about it in order to learn from it. Its not a choice, its just the way their minds are built. Some folks also need to speculate upon things for which there are no adequate answers or facts. This helps people to understand and accept things that otherwise cant be explained. Unknowns generate fear, so people naturally try to make sense of unknowns. Who wants to be afraid? This stuff is just basic human nature. Acceptance will bring you closer to harmony with it. Thats your best course since reality is that its not likely to change any time in the next 10,000 years
