  1. CrazyIvan, You know what? I just realized something funny about your screen name. The Marines have a name for these little plastic man-shaped targets that flip up and scoot about on the various live-fire ranges. It's 'Crazy Ivan'. Man, we shot hundreds of you. Anyway, that just made me giggle... - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins

    Luck

Vallerina, Extremely good luck hasn't been proven. Luck is a mystical term we've chosen to associate with good fortune, which is another term we've chosen to associate with...ad infinitum. I believe it was Louis Pasteur who said: "Chance favors the prepared mind" Perhaps luck is just circumstance meeting those who are ready to embrace it. Buck up little camper...Turn the music up loud...dance like no one is watching...and sing at the top of your lungs. It'll make you feel better. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins

    Luck

Vallerina, Nothing apropos worth singing comes to mind right now. And, we know you like being sung to. But, I was hoping that a little poem might help... Shel Silverstein: LISTEN TO THE MUSTN'TS Listen to the MUSTN"TS, child Listen to the DON'TS Listen to the SHOULDN'TS The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON'TS Listen to the NEVER HAVES Then listen close to me - Anything can happen, child, ANYTHING can be Go get your anything...
  4. What are you peeking at Kelly? And, with customers on the phone??? How naughty of you. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  5. Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday were beautiful. The planes flew continuously. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  6. Dougiefresh, Take the high road on this one. I envision something involving a pellet gun, ski mask, and duct tape. Being a fellow Wisconsinite, I am willing to help. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  7. nanook, What happens if you sign a reenlistment right now? If you reenlist instead of staying in simply because of stop-loss, can't you get your bonus? You'll have to obliserv to get your bonus anyway. And, if you're in the proper zone (A/B???) and want the money, reenlist. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  8. I say we hold these weddings at the drop zone and call it a solution... - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  9. TheAnvil, Two things: 1. I don't know how many people you'll find in the fart-stop-upping subcontracting business. Since RPT owes you a belly rub, you may be able to put a lien on her ass(ets). 2. In at least 6 states, a beans on top of casserole combination is punishable by not less than $1,000.00 fine and/or 2 weeks' community service. Be careful, topher edited for - what else? - spelling "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  10. meatmissle, You just pray the boss' car is on the port (left) side of the ship. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  11. I don't know about you Jenny Jenny, but this made me laugh out loud - at work: In a discussion about surviving a double mal, VectorBoy had this to say: Funny shit... topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  12. Does chopchop need to stop up your farts, or am I going somewhere I shouldn't be going? - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  13. PhillyKev, You raise an interesting point. We live in a world that requires contracts but doesn't allow the time for them. Umph... topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  14. Phillykev, You are right about the 8 year obligation. Anyone enlisting for service, active or reserve, signs an 8 year obligation. And, all contracts include the provision for stop-loss even if you are beyond your 8 years. An important note for the general audience about stop-loss: The government does not keep everyone beyond their separation dates when instituting stop loss. They target occupational specialties based on need. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins

    Books

skymama, If your Dad likes to learn, but also wants to be entertained, I highly suggest the following: A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson This book is absolutely fascinating and a fun read. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  16. Tink, You'll have to do a little research, but I think there's a law on the books that very clearly stipulates the following: Whenever a collision of two motor vehicles results in the damage of precious skydiving bumper stickers or personalized license plates, the vehicle to which these items are fastened shall be considered a total loss. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  17. Tink1717, I agree with you there buddy. I spent Friday and Saturday jumping and then almost got killed on the drive home by a wayward coyote that jumped out in the road. I will say, however, that the VW Jetta held to the road well. I know you're supposed to just hit the animal and not kill yourself swerving. But, the car is new and I thought it was a quadruped child...er...never mind. Had I crashed, it would have been my fault. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  18. ryoder, You hit the proverbial nail on the head here. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  19. JustaBill, Have you ever called in "can't see"? It goes like this: You: Boss, I can't come in today. Boss: Really? What's the problem? You: I can't see. Boss: You can't see? You: Yup, I can't see coming in today. You'll either get the day off or a whole bunch of days off. Either way, it works. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  20. Well, the role of "topher's play thing" is currently unfilled. And, since I just moved into a new apartment on Monday. And, since it's only proper to 'break-in' the new apartment, and... I had to help myself. topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  21. No contradiction here: Those who enlist sign a contract that includes a provision for stop-loss. It's a facet of military life they are argreeing to be bound by. If they agree to be bound by stop-loss when they volunteer, they are volunteering to be held on file if necessary. blues, topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  22. Marz, People such as us engage in activities every day that often leave us sore, bruised, full of road rash, and limping. We do this in the name of fun. A spinal tap will give you some lower back pain for a few days, but it's for a good cause. In my opinion, a little soreness and CSF could help save some lives. It's the thing to do. - topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  23. nanook, While I am decidedly opposed to your preference for krispy kremes, I would like to commend you on two things: 1. You avoided the lazy man's trap and used 'doughnut' instead of 'donut'. Though both are acceptable, you took the high road. Thanks. I had even gotten lazy myself. I'm now back on the straight and narrow. 2. You employed lower-case letters in krispy kreme because subconciously, you are aware that they suck. TTFN, topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  24. Kudos to the pizza man for taking care of business. But, I've got to point out one problem here. He emptied his weapon on his first target. If there were more perps, the pizza man might have bought it. Stick with the double-tap methodology - 1 to the chest and 1 to the head. Then ready yourself for the possibility of another perp. Although, it's somewhat funny that he emptied the gun. You gotta admit the nerves would be taking over and squeezing the trigger a bunch of times would probably be natural. Pizza crime doesn't pay... topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
  25. Milan, That is a good thing unless you want to set up some servers. If you want to set up some servers, you'll either have to get a static IP address or use a workaround. There are some services out there that allow you to run servers using dynamic IP addresses. I would recommend one, but I haven't used one in more than two years. So, it's been a while. But, if you search Godgle {sic} for 'dynamic ip hosting yadda yadda bing bang' you'll come up with something you can use. Some services are free. But, if you're not running any servers, I would let it be. It's for the best. TTFN, topher "...there is a there out there..." - Tom Robbins
