Cheney dragged his daughter into this, not the dems. And when a REPUBLICAN candidate made extremely offensive statements, the Cheneys did not whine to the press about it.

It was NOT a low blow. Cheney himself has brought it up numerous times during the campaign, not just the debate, and furthermore, nothing disrespectful was said. A republican candidate for senator in Illinois said far worse to the press last month, and much less fuss was made over it.

Well, my mom had foot surgery for a bone spur (sort of like a bunion) and it took her a very long time before she was walking OK and pain free. So long she sort of regretted having the surgery but the chronic pain from her foot sort of forced that decision. I've known older ladies at work who've had bunion surgery too, and they've had fairly long recovery periods. But, these were older overweight ladies. (And my mom, in her 60s, not overweight, but not exactly in great shape either!) Since you're probably quite a bit younger than those people and in better shape, you'll probably heal quicker. Can you schedule the surgery for after Eloy, just in case?

I don't think anyone here is condoning or accepting jumping under the influence of ANYTHING. Impaired skydiving and what you do on your own time are 2 separate issues. And, remember alcohol is also a drug. if you drink alcohol (beer and champagne are alcoholic beverages) then you are also a drug user. You choose not to jump impaired, you choose not to jump with people who are impaired. The majority of those of us who have read and responded to this thread have made those exact same choices. What I personally take issue with (and I don't think I'm alone) is your judgemental approach, when you yourself are also a Drug User.

See, I think, if you are addressing a General Issue, and not a specific problem at a specific DZ (which you claim to be) jumping after drinking is probably a much more common occurrence. And I'd also guess its far less common now than it was 10 years ago, which is a step in the right direction. What was once acceptable is generally frowned upon now. Maybe that's naive, but that's based on my own personal observations from my time in the sport, and conversations I've had with some of the folks that have been in the sport way longer than me!

I think you're making a HUGE leap there. Most DZs are pretty tolerant of acohol use/ abuse after hours, but that doesn't mean they are tolerant or accepting of people jumping drunk or otherwise impaired! Why is it you feel that the less than legal drug use (alcohol is a drug, legal or not!) is any different? I'm not condoning it, just questioning the "holier than thou" attitude.

I don't think I misunderstood, unless you are telling me at your dz you don't have the right to choose who packs your reserve. Is that the case? I certainly hope not! If you're happy with all of the riggers and have no problem with a random system like that, fine. She was NOT happy with all the riggers, so it was up to her to have her rig repacked by someone she trusted! My gear + my money + my life (potentially) = my choice and if I waive that choice (which she effectively did) I have to accept the consequences. Nobody works on my gear without my permission! Even if I drop my rig off at our gear store where there is more than one rigger, I still specify who I want repacking my rig and its been that way since I purchased my first rig! Now, that may mean the difference between waiting an hour or a week for my rig (if my rigger isn't immediately available), but again, that's my choice.

Ok, so she allows a rigger she claims she did NOT TRUST to repack her rig, and then makes a stink about it? I don't get that at all! If my rigger isn't avaialable to pack for me, I've got a few options, one of them being to stay on the ground until he or another rigger I trust can do my repack. One option I don't think any of us should have is to use someone whom you don't trust instead! And IMO, cliques are not "normal" in skydiving. Groups, maybe, friends, of course! But clique implies something entirely different and if your dz is "cliquish" and exclusive to that extent, maybe its time to find a new one.

Hey Mel, If there was another rigger available to do your repack, why didn't you ask him to do it in the first place? You always have a right to decide who works on your rig! I don't know how to comment on the rest of it, aside for saying that if you really do suspect someone messed with you gear, that's pretty damn serious. If you're going to continue to jump there in spite of feeling that way, I hope you are prepared to pack for yourself 100% of the time and always keep your gear in sight or under lock and key. Personally, I would jump at a dz where I felt the need to do that!

They've essentially become surrogate parents to him, so they are pretty critical, and I think they'll play an even more critical role in the next book. Plus, he works at the Ministry of Magic, and the last book made it pretty clear that Mrs. Weasley is a very powerful witch. We'll see! If Voldemort or his followers were to kill ANY of the Weasley's, they'd have to face the wrath of one very pissed off Mama Witch! Could be interesting!

I'm thinking one of the Weasley's, but not Ron or Ginny. Probably the father. It would be nice to see Percy go, but he's only a fringe character. And yes, I think eventually Dumbledore as well, but that will be towards the end of the last book. Yes, I'm a geek and I love Harry Potter!

The Magikal Knights just got 20 pts in the first round for a new world record. Airspeed blew their exit and still got 18. Wow! Deguello posted a 17. This should be an interesting event!

I haven't been there in YEARS, but there was a link on MSN to find "haunted spots" in different cities, and the Red Lion was on it! If I remember correctly, it isn't haunted by some scary guy, but instead by many of the former drunks who hung out there when they were alive! (dead drunk college kids, maybe?) I suppose it would be more politically correct to refer to the ghosts as deceased former patrons instead of drunks!
