Headache... from high altitiude?
Tonto replied to skydivefive's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Clearly, dropping dead below 20 000ft means you're not in (genetically) great shape. No one can train against HAPE or HACE. It's something you have - or you don't. t It's the year of the Pig. -
hahaha - I did pretty much the same thing. Me too. Who says people can't agree on stuff in SC? t It's the year of the Pig.

No warning at all apart from the battery voltage down to 100th of a volt. Should you choose not to replace the battery - who's fault would that be? If you're that worried - you shouldn't rely on your analog alti either. If anything, you should rely on the large planet shaped object aproaching you when you're in freefall. It remains the AUTHORITY on altitude. t It's the year of the Pig.

Headache... from high altitiude?
Tonto replied to skydivefive's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It could be cerebral edema... if you were really, really out of shape. It's something some climbers experience, but usually when they're over 23000ft for a few days - not above 14500 for a few min. Briefly, we're not "waterproof." As atmospheric pressure drops with altitude, we start to leak - usually from our smallest capilaries, which are found in our brains (hence the "cerebral"- HACE) and our lungs. (pulmonary edema- HAPE) The only cure is to go down, and climbers recover very well below 10000ft. A headache that lasts 10 days is an issue. At least it's not a tumor though. They're painless! t It's the year of the Pig. -
No. It will require the dedication of about 100 individuals, almost certainly for the last 12 seconds of their lives. I can assure you I will do all I can to prevent me or my students joining this group. I will try as though my very life depends on it. If this seems overly negative - you've caught me at a time where I'm not as optimistic as I sometimes am. t It's the year of the Pig.

No idea. I'm not offended. In fact the idea of all those liberated boobies is.. well.. kinda liberating! t It's the year of the Pig.

Thanks for the update.

I'm not on the organising committee - but it looks set. The AN32 is for sure. The CASA is a maybe, mainly because the army will only allow 20 jumpers. There's a possible C-130 - but only if enough people register to make it worth it, and only for 3 days of the boogie. I've heard nothing about the Puma. I'm hoping for around 25 wingsuits - and that's from everywhere, so I think it's possible. It's 5 months away and the work started about 5 months ago. t It's the year of the Pig.

I don't mean to Hijack my own thread..... But... Is that a monkey on your back? t It's the year of the Pig.
-
Yeah, they're very, very similar, the 32 just takes more jumpers! I'll have a look at the links when I get home from work and have more bandwidth available! Thanks! t It's the year of the Pig.

So are you looking for "Sponge Bob" or "Skyboy"? t It's the year of the Pig.

Agreed. Julian did under 30 in a Sugarglider on Saturday, but Sugargliders are not for sale. He did 36 MPH average, on his back in a sugarglider - on MY Neptune. I am worried about a suit developed without his input though, which I beleive the GS1 is. t It's the year of the Pig.

It's been 13 years since I last jumped this aircraft. We'll be using one for the African Freefall Convention later this year. When I think back to those days, I remember the exit speeds were fast, the air was hard and smooth. I think the aircraft will be great for gaining altitude after exits, but less than ideal for larger flocks due to everyone wanting to ride the relative wind up the hill. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonov_An-32 Anyone jumped one of these with a wingsuit? t It's the year of the Pig.

Umm. Heard of life insurance? People who are recognised as high risk pay more. Just about every wife/husband stands to benefit financially if one of them dies. Do you think that practice is disgusting? I don't think this is gambling. I think it's a game of skill. I can spot them months ahead. I wouldn't put something like this in place at my DZ though, but that's merely for marketing reasons. t It's the year of the Pig.

With you there. As a South African who grew up in a country that had "Detention without trial" during the apartheid years, it was clear that those people were dying in detention at an alarming rate. Try them, or let them go. t It's the year of the Pig.

I think a wolf would eat a sheepdog for breakfast. I don't think sheepdogs care deeply for sheep, cos I've seen them nip them to make them do where they don't want to go. I'm not a wolf or a sheepdog, and I don't like being thought of as a sheep, guarded only to be stripped of my wool and put in a mutton pie. t It's the year of the Pig.

Yeah.... I remember standing at the fire between you and Piers, our accents sounding normal in Eloy, dispite being far from home. People live on in our minds eye, always smiling, never aging. BSBD. t It's the year of the Pig.

Yeah... She's easily matching anything I've ever done in my S3... and since there are no suits lying around that will fit her - she's only ever jumped her GTi. She's really, really ready for a hotter suit, but is holding out for the S5... unless something better pops up before then! t It's the year of the Pig.
-
Congratulations! if it makes you feel any better - you're 16 years younger than I am! t It's the year of the Pig.

Well, it's not like we're at WAR! Taya and I've been waiting for GS1 demo's, and have picked up little snippets through the grapevine here. (It's a VERY small vine.) Just wondering if this affects anything on the technical front... t It's the year of the Pig.
-
Maybe... But the GS1 is not the Sugarglider. Julian put a lot of work into the one, but not the other. As far as I know he's the only skydiver in the company... so losing him could be critical. This isn't the US or Europe where there's a Wingsuit God under every bush. Maybe Eric will step up to bat next. t It's the year of the Pig.

I heard this weekend that Julian has left Jii-Wings. What's up with that? t It's the year of the Pig.

I jump with mine. It's a tool, it weighs nothing. Why not carry it? t It's the year of the Pig.

New wingsuit from BirdMan (firebird) on another note anyone seen a Phi?
Tonto replied to kevin922's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I also got the mail. What do I answer when the guy who's placed an order for the PHi asks why he had to order a suit in one of 2 colours, when he could have got "The best all round wingsuit in the world" complete with airlocks, in any one of a multitude of colours? Birdman suits seemed very clear when there were just the Classic, GTi and S3. No one seems to be able to say where these new suits fit. Why would I want a PHi when the Firebird is better? t It's the year of the Pig.
