  1. I did about three weeks back. My advanced AFF student had chosen a pair of goggles which had no elastic. I was forced to give him mine - and jump without. It's never a problem if you keep your chin up. Checking the spot at terminal can be uncomfortable. t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. Well - why not top dock them and steer their canopy back to the DZ? Your best chance of doing that is if you dump them out high and on their reserve. I've seen an unconsious team mate top docked and steered out of a game reserve. Africa has some unique challenges. t It's the year of the Pig.

Modernist! I'll stick with "Proof" t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. Well. Good for you. The manufacturer has no reason to lie about something like this. I jump a Stilleto 107 and a Safire 119. Apart from a fractionally longer recovery arc and a significantly longer toggle stroke on the Safire, and the quicker turn rate on the Stilleto, the pack volumes and performance of both canopies are difficult to tell apart. The same was true of my Safire 135/Stilleto 120 Combo I used some years back. Why would you refuse to accept what the manufacturer has to say? t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. I'm happy that you're happy. I suspect though, that you're probably not being entirely honest with yourself. I find that if the relationship had any meaning at all, there will be pain on both sides of the break-up line. t It's the year of the Pig.
  6. I did over 1000 dives with nothing but a jumpsuit and goggles. No gloves, shoes, helmet or alti. Since I've been doing a lot of AFF - the alti is good. I use it for debriefs, and on the rare occasion that a student's alti looks "off" in the plane (some of them get hammered on landing..) I have one to give the student and don't mind going without. t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. Mine is huge. I guess being raised in a system that tried to teach us to hate worked to some degree. Being 17 and drafted into the army helped a bit more. It's taken a lifetime to dial back the impulse to do what I know I can do - and no matter how wrong it may be, at the time it always feels like the right thing. t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. My first 1000 dives were in the pre AAD era, including my 1st freefall and and about 2000 dives after that. AAD's are a bother. There're endless time spent turning them on, having repacks due to error codes, replacing batteries etc. My AAD timexed on 12 years, and has not yet been replaced. I see so many people spending money on an AAD when they still have incompatible gear. Be your own goalkeeper. It's all about narrowing the angles. t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. Shoulders are delicate and fragile things. They are particularly vulnerable when the elbow is level or higher than the shoulder, and the thumb is facing towards the head, which is pretty much the old "box" position. Any martial artist will tell you that a flat hand slap to the elbow in that config is enough to dislocate. Those that are "prone" to dislocations were not prone to them prior to their 1st one. After that, they come out easier, go back in easier and can generally be healed with good physio, unless the dislocations are caused by weak rotator cuff muscles, in which case, physio and cortizone are used for 4 months, and if the improvement is insufficient, surgery is required. t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. I only need one. The rest of you can fight over the others. t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. You're in luck. I'm a Buddhist. If you're serious, you can try for me in my next life. This life I'm already taken, I'm afraid. t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. I like NO makeup. I also like normal eyebrows. In fact, I especially like normal eyebrows because they are so rare. t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. I'm already spoken for by someone who doesn't break stuff!
  14. I don't fix stuff. If you never break stuff, I'm a great guy to have around. t It's the year of the Pig.

  16. If your profile is correct, I think you're speaking very soon. t It's the year of the Pig.

I don't know. When I first saw the Sugar glider, it's what scared me the most about it - but I had no trouble on the pull at all. t It's the year of the Pig.

Clearly, you have never looked at a Birdman Order Form. t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. To date, over 60% of my AFF students have reached A licence. After that - I think staying with the sport is pretty much up to them. At JSC, about 10% of 1st jump students make it to freefall. About one of those make it to A Licence. I now have former AFF students and SL students with 1000's of dives, and some who have made it to Gold at Nationals. When I chat to them now - the most valuable thing about AFF is that you have someone to talk to in those lonely "Just off AFF" days when you need questions answered about gear, other dropzones, and learning new stuff. I learned SL. There was no alternative in those days. Both programs work, and when you have a couple of hundred dives, no one cares how you learned. As with everything - it's up to each individual to apply themselves and be the best that they can be. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. You can't always see them. In the winter, in Africa, there's a lot of long grass, but it's not loose, so it doesn't get picked up. You'll only spot them when they cross a dirt road or something. They always move down wind, so you should never run downwind from them. Crab upwind and off their windline. I have seen them at 1500 ft, but that is rare. 150 ft or lower is more common. They're really only a risk in the last 100 feet or so. t It's the year of the Pig.

  23. That's it! I've heard it with an adjective at the WFFC. "A Fuckload of skydivers." t It's the year of the Pig.
  24. You should come to Africa. We're all African Skydivers here. t It's the year of the Pig.
  25. Where is that? Status. I never meant this to be a digital/analog battle. Truth is - stuff breaks, and when it does, the trick is not to be screwed. Hitch hikers guide, by the way.. t It's the year of the Pig.
