  1. Disagreeing with your government's policies does not make you less patriotic. Isn't that the way the US gained their independance? I was anti the SA government during the apartheid years. I was drafted into a military I felt was not doing the right thing to the right people. I was also told to leave. I did. The US was one of my havens. It inspired me. Still does. When the world's opinion leans against your country - it's usually for a reason. These days - you can't find a single person that was "pro apartheid" all those people who told me to leave? They're in Australia/Canada/ the UK now. I'm home. In a country full of problems, but one that I love deeply and care about. PM'd you. t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. Your country does not stand for shit. The American people are easily led, but are hard to drive. I think thats a positive trait. The truth will come out. At a Billion dollars a week and an American life a day, I would imagine some of you will be asking "What are we getting in return for this outflow of treasure and blood?" After rushing ahead and calling the UN "insignificant" the US is now asking for UN assistance. Someone never did the maths here. I'm glad Saddam is gone. I just think a little more thought, planning and international co-operation would not have gone amiss. Only 3 billion dollars of contracts have been handed to US firms to assist in rebuilding the Iraqi infrastructure. At a billion cost per week - thats poor ecconomics. t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. Hey. Chill. I have nearly 4000 dives and I still get gear fear/second thoughts/performance fear. I've learned that they all live in the plane though. Keep it going. t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. Nice post. I'm with you 100%. t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. FYI Vortex 2 t It's the year of the Pig.
  6. My thoughts exactly! t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. Crossposted from "So you want to be an Instructor..." I've had 2 memorable ones... 1. Student cut away at about 600 ft. RSL got the reserve. landed with toggles stowed on both canopies. Reason. Slider was not "Directly over his/her head." "It was like 2 feet away? On top of the black things like you showed us? Oh yeah... Sorry..." 2. Student landed about 2 miles away after indicating the radio was functional. (Kick your legs if you can hear me.. (Kick, kick, kick) Turn LEFT!) Silly me. The student was turning to face left in the harness. Just had not bothered to put his/her hands in the toggles and pull the left toggle down to turn left... Golf. Golf is good. Go and play golf... t It's the year of the Pig.

Is it just me... or does your new avitar look like a broad shouldered man peeing in a watering can with his hands on his hips. I know its a powerpuff girl... It's just me - isn't it... t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. Hey RevJim. I didn't mean it as a bad thing. That same philosophy got me many an extention to my stays in the states. 50 states, 52 weeks in a year... show me the state you can see in a week... etc The US is gifted with massive geographical diversity, from Ice fields to desert, mountain to swamp. If anything, you lack big mountains - with nothing in the 20 000ft range. (I climb..
  11. Mine took 6 months. It was an event cascade of note involving errors from me, my dealer and Airtec. When I got it back - it never worked for 2 years - until I changed the battery for one that worked. I never sent it for its 8 year check. t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. Wear a soft neck brace and ask the TM to hold your forehead back during deployment. Have fun! t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. It's not odd. Only 10% of US citizens hold passports. A road trip is an adventure for you dudes. t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. Mmm. Interesting. Are you talking about low timers? 1st mals? everyone? I have about 2500 dives without a cypress - about 1500 with one. I have 17 chops. 7 Tandems, 7 wraps/entanglements and 3 mals (I jump a highly loaded eliptical) I have a few straight reserve rides too - one of which was a prem in the door of a Cessna. I've never used my Cypres, but I have it all the same. I beleive if it's ever used - it's more likely to be as a result of loss of altitude awareness than a loss of consiousness. Maybe that's being honest - maybe just a statistical likelihood. I'd like to think that if I had one fire one day - that maybe people would think that I was current and capable for 18 years, and a 1 second brain fart shouldn't keep me out of the sport forever. I don't know. I'll let you know if it ever happens. t It's the year of the Pig.
  15. Really? I jump a PD canopy - but all manufacturers have problems. Sabre 2 t It's the year of the Pig.
  16. You have time. El Cap is for "old men." Good El Cap link t It's the year of the Pig.
  17. 18.6 years. The people. They make the memories. t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. I'd do it - but only because I think the risk of being killed in a car wreck commuting to a job is far greater over the remainder of your lifetime. (My best friend and I were SO NEARLY taken out in a car wreck yesterday.) t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. Jump 714. 16 more reserve rides since then out of 3946 total. t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. Congratulations! That rig's nice and light when you walk off the DZ, eh? I'm with Hookitt here. I've always hung on, having also been trained on the one hand per handle method. I think the key issue is it's not about the handles. It's about surviving - and if that means losing a handle, or a freebag, or even a main canopy - then you did the right thing. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. What about "Used to do it but all my friends died so I stopped." as an option to your poll? I did "serious" CReW for 3 years, and one world meet. Just kinda lost it's bite for me after that. Stopped CReW for 7 years, then did a few again this year. It's still fun. Nothing more. t It's the year of the Pig.
  22. And a lot more innocents have died since. t It's the year of the Pig.
