OK, it is that time of year when kids get all giddy about santa. This year Skyler, my daughter, finally decided that she would interact with Santa. In the past few years she has been like a deer in headlights on the verge of crying but at 4 and a half I think she got over the hump! Yeah!! The other good thing about this time of year is that if she is acting up all I have to say is two words, "Naughty or Nice??"

I was talking to a younger jumper about canopy dynamics and how using rears you can get a high speed stall suddenly. I searched but could not find a vid posted here to that effect. I could have sworn that one or two have been posted but I am having no luck.. Thanks in advance Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Well I dont know about the costs for shipping in Africa but I think that if in the states then my numbers (USD) hold true for the majority of jumpers and the unit is not an economic void. Also I would venture to guess that most jumpers only change batteries at the 2 year mark and not every 500 jumps which only the jumper can truley quantify but if you did do 400 jumps a year that breaks down to 1700 over the 4years +3mo and would add one more battery into the mix. Then the cost to buy should not go over $220 based on the calculations I noted above.... the extra $75 added in... We are comparing apples to oranges... Scott C. I dont agree with that depending on the costs that are associated: Say you already have the unit and need it done. about ~$200 (includig shipping to and from if the service is 160 plus shipping) for the service and then ~$150 for two batteries till end of life which for this example is 4 years + 3mo. (51 months) If you alredy own the cypress then the cost to maintain to end of life is $6.87/month (6.87 x 51 = 350) or $82.44/year If you buy a new on at say $1000 then add a 4 year and 8 year check and 6 batteries you get a total of $1850 (1000 + 200 + 200 + (75 x6)). Given 12 years +3 mo (147mo) you get a monthly break down of $12.59 /mo or $151.02 a year based on a new unit at the above noted numbers meeting all maintence requirements. Now if you looking to buy a unit and you can calculate the maximum price to pay as a total cost of the used unit including the following: purchase cost, service and battery costs needed till end of life. If it is equal to or less then the cost per year of a new Cypress 1 unit then it is not an economic void. I would say that getting a used cypress can be a great way to get a cypress and save money, espically if you cant afford a new unit. Using the above noted prices you are looking at a price to buy a 8 year cypress of about $300 if it needs a check and 2 batteries through its end of life to break out to the yearly cost over life from new.... $12.59/mo x 51 months = $641.84 then subtract out the serive and batteries ($350 estmated from above) you end up with just under $300 (~$292) Scott C. Nice lookig face and if you have a jumpsuit to match, cool.... I had more then enough help from David at FFA when we were going back and forth on face options, and was given a number of variations to choose from. Also as a side I got a awesome deal on mine and price was not even close to an issue when I was comparing it to other altimeter options, even comparing to units w/o a custom face.. I would suggest giving them a call and finding what they can do, thats is what I did.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Corey, Your (hypothetically speaking of course) not getting sucked into the napster lawsuit thingy are you?? "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Freefall Accessories did it for me. I know that they have been advertising the custom faces for awhile but I had heard that Alti was now offering them as well. There are a lot of good altimeters out there and if your looking look at all of them but dont just run to Alti since they are the most common.... I have had a number of Alti's and do like them. that said, I was nothing but pleased/impressed with FFA's service combined with the quality of altimeter... They were recently added to the gear review section and I think I am the only one to provide a review. I have a stainless Steel version of hte altimeters that they offer but a couple of the highlights of them include a fully transferrable lifetime warranty and in the case of the evolution altimeters they are 30% or so lighter the the alti's (that is if the weight is something your really concerned about) Anyway go check them out and compare them to the other units on the market! http://www.freefallaccessories.com/Homepage.htm Scott C. I dont work or distribute for them in any way, just am happy with the altimeter and the service and quality it provides "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Odd question, What's the best Elvis wedding chapel in Vegas?
sdctlc replied to BlindBrick's topic in The Bonfire
I wont ask why you know that but am curious.... That said, is that 24 hour rule only at that establishment or something new in vegas?? In Vegas a number of years ago, got a marriage license at the courthouse about 10:30pm and was married before midnigth... No rules about 24 hnour wait time to try and stop the "drunk & stupid" factor from happening..... Now back the the other question, whats the deal, nobody willbe reading this post anyway..... Scott C. OK, I am going to be in Orlando for a business meeting starting Jan 6th. I basically have time at night most likely on the 6, 7, or 8th, separate from my meeting and was looking to see what might be going on. I know the tunnel runs block times at night a lot and I am curious if any blocks are set up currently with people looking to possibly share time with. I have not used the Orlando Tunnel previously but have flown in the Perris tunnel a number of times. I am just throwing it out there as I would love to split some time on a block and do some RW in the tunnel, if there is somethig out there. If you know of anything going on on those dates I will be happy to try and work something out, send me a PM or E-mail or respond here.... Thanks, Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I tend to agree and threw Costco out there as it is the one that came to mind as my knowing the price. I also agree that if you go to a Camera shop and dont worry about getting the 1 hour service you will most likely get a better print... I had gotten some panoramic reprints from Costco and they absolutly sucked, the colors were way out of wack so I took it elseware and the prints then looked great. After that I had not used Costco for APS. Regarding 35mm, I have had very good luck with them for a quick turnaround on a roll or for a quick blow up... Back on point for this thread, APS has some nice features and is easy to use. I got some good pictures using it and it is a viable option but I would sugfgest going to a camera store for developing to maximize the quality of the prints. Smaller negative does not lend itself as readidly to blow-ups... Attached a pic from APS, some of the grain is from the scan being resized to a smaller size, the print looks good.. Scott C. I jumped a APS camera, Canon IX Lite for awhile and it was very easy to use. No real problems at all in developing. I usually went to Costco and it was about $8 so slightly more expensive then 35mm. Cost of film was also slightly more. With the 24mm format the film was not as prone to super clear blow ups over 5x7 or 8x10 at the very most. Huge difference is surface area of film when comparing 35mm to 24mm negatives. Personally I got a good numbr of great shots out of it but I also got a good deal of graney shots. Now with that said I dont know if that was 100% the film or the settings, usually on Tv with 250 most of the time. Skydiving shots seemed to have a higher % of grainy shots compared to ground shots that looked great almost 100%... Overall a very easy to use and decent camera. Takes good pics and is easy to use with lots of features including 3 formats, Clasic, High and Panoramic but the drawback is its slightly more limiting if your looking to do stills that you want to blow up.. Just my $0.02. As a side, I am currently flying a Rebel 2000 35mm with great results on basically the same settings. I am considering going digital now.. Scott C. Not sure but I know I was getting out at 5K on Sat ands others going all the way up were comming down frozen.... I am noty too worried about the extra altitude when its that cold. The tandem I did yesterday was very cold, at 5K I looked and it was below Freezing. I was dressed accordingly and tucked my head behind the passanger for some of the jump.... Scott C.
