what goes along with getting a job as a packer??
Jskydiver22 replied to Terminal-V's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Agreed! Im just like that...i can pack 120's faster than a 190's so..why not charge more. If you can pack 190s in the same time it takes to pack a 120...then thats awesome and i see what your saying. But to me...a 190 is more than i want so an extra dollar would be worth it. The person i pack for just got a brand new custom Sabre2 170 so its going to be fun dealing with that for awhile. He takes care of me, and i take care of him. I still never charged him an extra dollar for the 190 only because it was older and he brought me capachino in the morning --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know-- -
Thanks everyone. I figured out a way to make some up. Thanks again for everyones help and advice. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

I was just curious as to why i cant enter 3.50 for a dollar ammount. Its because if the "." but is there any way it could be allowed. Maybe im just being to picky. I dunno --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

Try not to stare at they sun...some people say its bad for your eyes But seriously...all i did to keep a heading was stare at a 45 degree angle at the ground. Try to pick out a visual point on the ground and if that point changes...try to change back to it. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

Hey, i figured this would be the best place for this post. Does anyone know where i can actually buy one of the slider stows that goes around the top of your reserve flap? Ive searched the forums for it already but i could only find information on it. Is there some website i can go to and order one or something? While i'm at it...where can i get an icarus canopies t-shirt? Sorry if the swooping and canopy control forum isnt the best for it, but i couldnt think of anything else it would go under

I dont know, personal opinion i guess. I've just never had a problem with making an extra buck if i could get it. For me it feels a lot better to have a 120 over your shoulder than a 190 and up. I also feel like I have more control over it. Not saying that i make a mess of the big ones, it just feels like more of a pain to me. I wouldnt charge an extra dollar for new canopies because If they are small...they just feel easier to deal with me. I dont get an extra dollar either way i was just saying it would be nice to. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know-- -

I would almost agree with charging an extra dollar for a 190. I started packing when i was about 5'1 and 100 lbs. When i was that size...i hated to see someone come drop down a big ol' 190. I dont know what it is...but at our dropzone...its rare to see tips. I would have no problem with getting an extra dollar for a 190 and above. Im about 5'6-5'7 now and about 127 lbs. and 190's are still somewhat big. True its the same number of folds and procedures...but thats still a lot of material to deal with...especially when they are BRAND NEW. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know-- -
haha yeah....well i bet it looks better on your video since we were seperated that unbreakable 2 feet. That was just the natural camera talent telling you not to get to close --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

what goes along with getting a job as a packer??
Jskydiver22 replied to Terminal-V's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was always been at my DZ since i was 10 or 11 so i was just kind of put into it. Now that im 16 and jump...i dont pack as much but im still one of the main packers there. I would suggest calling dropzones and seeing if they need a packer or not. We, as packers at our DZ normally share the student pack jobs, and we get certain people that we pack for. If one of us is feeling bad we will let the other have it. But, most of the time you will get someone that will keep coming back to you. As for paying for the reserve pack job if you pack a mal. I wouldnt unless it was directly related to my pack job. You will have good days and bad days. Student pack jobs always wore me out. I would rather pack a slippery new 119 or 109 over an old worn out f-111 288 manta any day. Other people are opposite. Bring plenty of water to the DZ!! --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know-- -
I think that the skydiving world evolves for a reason. We went from rounds to squares for a reason. If the spring loaded pilot chutes were still superior to the throw outs, how come it is rare for an experienced jumper to have a spring loaded PC? For what most people do today...my opinion is that hand deployed PC's are better. But thats only my opinion

I agree...now how did all this legal stuff come up? Back to the original post. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

No, actually the people on here dont know me so...i dont know where your getting the part about saying that the people that know me are telling me a made a mistake. The reason i thought it was a mistake is because the people on here dont know how i fly. Im put into a group of typical people with 200+ jumps. Which is fine...i would do the same. And im not saying that im invincible and nothing can touch me either. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

THANK YOU! i could not agree more. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

Yeah...i figured that out after u just posted that But...ian sent me a PM, and we talked some. How about you do me a favor and back off me man. I got your point. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

I got mine off of a dropzone.com classified ad. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

I see what your saying. But i actually think that anyone would go straight for the DZO. I dunno if the fact of a 16 year old skydiving would actually play a role in court or not. But...im no legal expert. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--
-
haha ohhh...i see that kind of sign...thought he was refering to a sign that said "im 16, i could sue your ass off...if i get hurt the dz will lose everything" sign. Freeflir29....I know but it seemed like you were making it sound too dangerous to jump at 16. USPA has actually said that its perfectly legal to jump at 16. And...most of us have known the DZO for awhile so i guess its more of a matter of trust. For me...theres no way i would take any legal action against my DZO and he knows that. I agree though, with not letting every 16 year old that comes through the door skydive. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

Wow...this post did get blown way out of proportion. Amazing how that can happen on here. Im 16 and its legal to jump at 16...i really dont see why people are making such a big deal out of it. Most of us who started when we were 16 didnt just show up at the DZ one day and go "i wanna jump out of the airplane" We were there packing all summer and editing vids (for me anyways). Most of us have probably saw someone burn in or get hurt some way. And at night when everyone is sitting around talking about skydiving...you think we didnt pick up on most of it. In skydiving...i really dont see the difference in starting when your 16...or 18 (other than a bunch of legal concerns). When it comes to maturity...i think that there are some 16 year old kids that should NOT be skydiving....but have i seen 30+ year olds that shouldnt be skydiving...yes. As for wearing a sign around my neck that says im 16.....never done that. Dont think i need to. And i think most of the people that jump with me would agree on that. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

I do listen to those guys...never said i didnt. Yeah i knew that posting it here was probably a bad idea after i did it. I had a few people tell me that there was no way they would post on here when they made a significant downsize to an eliptical. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

I know exactly where your coming from. Im also in Indiana and woke up to some snow this morning. Ive got a brand new Alti2 Neptune and a (new to me) Main canopy setting here dying to be used. Winter sucks! Thats all there is to it. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

I dont think he was slamming ian. I didnt feel like ian was slamming me either. I think he was refering to the second comment made in this post. Thanks for your adivice. I dont know ian rather than off dropzone.com but I know hes a great canopy pilot and i respected his advice and took it into consideration. Maybe you just took that post wrong?

When i said i was half teaching myself that was the old canopy that i had. On this one, i dont plan on teaching myself at all. I already have a plan to go and get some canopy coaching. Im from a small DZ...and those 3 people are the most experienced there...one is my mom, one is my step-dad, and the other is my step dads best friend. Im getting coaching for sure. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--
-
Yeah, thats really what i plan on doing...i want to figure the flight characteristics first and get comfortable flying it...then start to working with front riser landings. I understand where your coming from in saying that you wouldnt recomend it to me. Ive talked with 3 people (all with over 1000 jumps) that have watched me all throughout my skydiving career that feel that i can handle it. I understand also that it can bite me. Im going to be extreemly careful with it. Thank you all for your input. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--

Thanks...i do plan on getting some canopy coaching as soon as i can. Our DZ doesnt really have anyone who could coach. But...i do plan on traveling over to another DZ nearby where they do. As for learning how to swoop...it was kinda half me teaching myself and half me getting advice and coaching. Im going to completly start over and bring it in nice and slow...then once i get comfortable with that, maybe do a little double front riser approaches... and so on. I also plan on doing a LOT of high alti. hop-n-pops. --I don't even know enough to know that I dont know--
