  1. Just because I'm too lazy to look it up (all that pointing and clicking) and I know bill has it at his fingertips, "Whatever happened to coal gasification?" I thought there was enough coal under America to run the country for centuries. And I thought one of the tenets of the project was to make it a clean product. Is there too much of the bad coal (can't remember if anthracite or bituminous is the bad stuff)? Too costly to clean? No process to gassify it? At one time, I know some of the big thinkers thought it was a solution. flyhi
  2. Did you really need the croissant? That's the kind of stuff that pushes the price up. Have fun!! flyhi

    Smart Old Man

You're smarter than I. I went to the Atlas and looked for Manica. Figured it was a small country in the Mediterranean region. flyhi
  5. Excellent point which I hadn't even thought of until you mentioned it. What is the affect on airlocked canopies? flyhi
  6. Whiskey - No Idea Vodka - Grey Goose Tequila - I like Cabo Wabo, but I bet no one else does. Scotch - Oban What about rum? The Capt it is, matey! flyhi
  7. A crotchless thong. I think that's called a shoelace, isn't it? flyhi
  8. Thanks. I never knew that. See you next Tuesday. flyhi

  11. Vicki, it's Costa Rican for Frank. flyhi
  12. I thought Louis Gossett said it in, "An Officer and A Gentleman", too? flyhi
  13. Heard a story one time of Scotty organizing a "Penis" formation RW dive. The whole thing was suppose to transition from flacid to turgid (I guess two points, huh?) and involved smoke or ribbons or something at the end. Got to admire his ingenuity. flyhi
  14. The best advice I ever got on moving with kids was, "Find a place you want them to go to school, then live near there." The best place I ever lived was across the street from my kids' school. The easiest house I ever sold, was the one across the street from my kids' school. Good luck. flyhi
  15. It's standards like that that can screw up a Friday or Saturday night. Maybe you're just not drinking enough. flyhi
  16. Don't think it really looks like him. Maybe without the wig. Did you see the Albert Einstein statue across from the Viet Nam Memorial? Really cool. You stand in the very center of it and your voice will echo, no matter how low you whisper. Also good spots to hit, Capitol City Brewing Company (unofficially home of the $15.00 hamburger) and Bardoe's Rodeo. A brewpub so big, they have four zip codes. Fun city, if you know where to go. G-Town is great. flyhi
  17. You heard her guys, she said, "might be a bit much." So there is a chance. flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
  18. Were you the one they asked to come to manifest after you landed? flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
  19. I did some 3-D dives that started out as RW, right Stacie? Oh yeah, someone slicky'd my sunglasses while I was there. And they're perscription. Go figure. flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
  20. After seeing several recent posts, this one requests equal time: What do you get when you cross a crooked lawyer with an incompetent politician? Chelsea. Isn't it ironic that the first First Lady and President from Arkansas were named Hill & Billy? Now let's see this degenerate into a discussion on circumcision. flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
  21. Women have what? Really? I hadn't noticed. Interesting. flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."

    A Scary Sight

What about the fall rate? What about tracking away? What about trying to take a grip on you? Okay, forget that one. What about the fall rate? flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
  23. I'm sure someone will come on here and give the full aero explanation using greek letters and the word "coefficient", but my Cliff Notes version is, When you riser turn, you fly the whole canopy around. If things get ugly, you have the whole wing flying for you to try and get out of it. You can stab it, harness turn it, flare it, whatever works. When you toggle turn it, your whole canopy is not flying the same. If you toggle too low, you have to wait for the side with the toggle you pulled to "catch up" before you can start a full canopy recovery. Basically, you are committed at that point. Bottom line: Riser turn = faster, more efficient, more outs. flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
  24. When I started jumping, all the old timers who really knew the sport assured me that, although squares were nice, there would never be a square reserve. They were just too unreliable. And tandems were unheard of. And no one except Carl Boenish and a few crazies from California jumped with cameras. And speaking of Burt Lancaster, back then, they said something like the the Gypsy Moth suit was too dangerous to jump because the force on your arms would be too great. At least, that's what the old guys who knew what was going on in the sport said. I don't even try and guess in what direction the sport might go in next. Why limit yourself? flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
  25. Beer tease! Been to both kinds of DZ's. Heard of one (may have been Byron, but I'm not sure) where the DZO cxl'd the sunset load cause guys were drinking too early. His ball, so he can make the rules. Gotta believe that didn't happen twice. Was at Deland this weekend when a spectator was sitting out side drinking a beer. I walked by and said, "Guess you're done jumping for the day, huh?" He gave me one of those WTF whuffo looks. It was about 11:00 AM. flyhi "To understand Mankind, you must look at its two root words; Mank and Ind."
