I absolutely detest hospitals! I'm a vet nurse, I see blood, guts etc on a daily basis. No problem. My boss got attacked by a dog 3 weeks ago and had his hand ripped apart, I was fine with it at work, bandaged it up, checked it to make sure it was fine, took him to the hospital, stood in emergency for about 10 minutes talking to him, making sure he was feeling ok, until I started seeing black spots, and feeling incredibly ill to the point I had to go outside and sit down for a few minutes before I fainted! It was bizarre, I am never queasy or anything, but looking around a hospital makes me feel like I'm gonna get sick and die right there! I HATE them, the smell, the people, everything! I havent even had any really bad experiences in them either....... www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Dude, have you ever tried to stow away a ripcord in your Jumpsuit on your first 20 jumps!! I have 7 jumps and have put my ripcord inside my jumpsuit on every single one of them! Its pretty easy to let go of the toggles, unzip your suit, put the ripcord in and zip up again. Takes about 15 seconds. Its pretty funny that all those students managed to lose them in one day though! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

haha classic. Cant believe no one noticed! I was waiting for his explaination of why they were switched (expecting something to do with photoshop etc). The signs not much use if the directions are wrong. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Whenever I saw anything related to skydiving I though "that looks like so much fun, but I'd never have the guts to do it, those people are mad!". Then I saw the movie dropzone (stop laughing!) about 5 months ago, and it made me think about it more, but i quickly dismissed it, because I still thought skydivers were absolutely mad! Then I went on a holiday with a friend of mine in february, and on our first night there she was speaking to her boyfriend on the phone and I heard her say "no, we're not going skydiving!!" and I turned around and said "hey, yeah lets go skydiving!" That was the beginning of being broke for me. She refused to go, so I did a tandem without anyone I knew there (she went home before I did so I was away by myself then), and loved it so much I spent the next 6 weeks saving up for AFF1. I did AFF 5 and 6 today, so much fun, such an awesome day. I even packed by myself (I had help up until putting the main in the d-bag, then I did the rest myself when the owner of the rig got on another load and left me - he told me to wait for him to return, but I thought I could do it, and he would unpack it with me there, before jumping it to see how I went). So all in all, thankgod for my friends boyfriend asking if we were going skydiving, because it really would not have been on my list of things to do (ever) if it had not been for that one small comment I heard my friend say. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

My friends fathers name is Richard. Their surname is Head. No joke. People dont call him Dick though. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I get the same thing, but I'm only doing AFF now so I thought it was just because it is a whole new thing to my body. I asked some of the experienced skydivers at the dz, but just got some blank stares, and laughs when I mentioned my ass hurting, followed closely by "well, what the hell were you doing in the plane on the way up??!" I have a bad back anyway, which I have been seeing all sorts of doctors etc for for the past 6 months, so I'm hoping it's not going to give me heaps of trouble. Not very good hearing that people with heaps of jumps (compared to me) still get sore. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

That's awesome! I wish my mum was like you! She refuses to have anything to do with my skydiving, which unfortunately includes buying me anything skydiving related (which sucks because i ONLY want things that are skydiving related now!). One of my close friends is doing her first tandem next monday, I think I'm more excited than she is! Shes been having a hard time lately with life in general, so I'm really glad shes decided to do the tandem now, because hopefully it'll put a whole new perspective on things for her. She assures me she is only doing one tandem and thats it, my response was "uh huh.......we'll see!". It'd be great if she became as obsessed as I am, but I'll be happy just to see the huge grin on her face when she lands. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

This is going to be different at every dz. My dz charges AUS$75 per jump with gear rental. I need to save up real quick for my own rig! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Congratulations on passing it! I'm doing level 5 next weekend, and I dont expect to pass first go, but I know I'll learn a hell of a lot on each jump anyway. On my level 4 I did a 360 and stopped on heading, but had absolutely no idea I did it, so as pleased as my Jm was about it, I was just more frustrated! Unfortunately I cant afford to do more than 1 jump a week while I'm doing AFF so if I fail I will have to wait a whole week to give it another go! Good luck with the rest of your AFF! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Having trouble with AFF L4--Advice Please
nael replied to reese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I hope you went ok if you jumped this past weekend. I'm doing AFF now, did levels 3 and 4 this weekend. On level 3 when the instructors let go of me I was fine, didnt even realise they'de let go, great hover control, I was so happy. Then today with level 4, I was turning and getting so frustrated during the jump because (like you) I was having trouble stopping the turn, and once I stopped it, I'd start turning the other way! My instructor was impressed because I did a 360 and stopped on heading, the only problem is I had absolutely NO IDEA i'd done it! My confidence is a bit shaken at the moment too, because although I passed the levels, I feel like I dont have enough awareness of whats actually going on up there. Until today, all my jumps have been about passing the levels. Now, I just want to jump to learn to fly properly. I'm doing level 5 next week, and I dont expect to pass it first go but I am really looking forward to it because I know I'm going to learn a lot from it anyway. Good luck with your AFF, do the tunnel time! I'm really jealous about that because I live in australia where wind tunnels are non existant, so I need to learn as much as possible in the 45 seconds of freefall I have each week. So, right now I have about 4 minutes of skydiving experience, no wonder I'm not aceing it yet! Good luck to you, and be persistant! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store -
Congratultions! Now the fun will really begin! I did stages 3 and 4 this weekend. Not feeling very confident about 5 yet, but I know what I need to concentrate on the most, but if I fail, so be it, its all good experience! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Its saturday night here now. I had my night lined up to include a free cruise with all alcohol provided free, but now its all gone to crap because of skydiving! I did AFF stage 3 today, but the winds picked up before i could do stage 4 which means stage 4 is tomorrow, which means no cruise, no free alcohol and more petrol to get back to the dz tomorrow. Plus, my friends who are going on the cruise are less than impressed with my form now, if only they understood! As much as I'm whineing, its all worth it! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Thanks for the advice gravity girl. I would never buy anything too advanced for me, I know skydiving is dangerous, and I dont want to be the person on the dz that people talk about saying stuff like "now shes an accident waiting to happen!". Before I buy anything I'm going to talk to LOTS of people with experience and then if I find a rig I am thinking of buying, get my instructors to check it out for me first. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I'm getting pretty addicted. All my money is going to skydiving, and my friends are already getting mad at me for it. I used to be the one always up for a massive night out partying, but now its more like "sorry, I'm going skydiving on the weekend, so I dont have time to see you guys, or money to go clubbing". I know they're not impressed, but you gotta do what you gotta do, and skydiving.....I gotta do! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

At my dz rental gear is $45 per jump! I want to buy a rig asap once I've finished AFF and done my b-rels and get a few more jumps up. I dont want to be buying a huge canopy because I will be jumping it for a fair while (i have almost no money!) but at the same time, I know the dangers of jumping a canopy too advanced for me. I dont want to be giving the dz $45 extra per jump, but for a while I have no other choice. Ugh, its depressing! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Congrats Lous on passing AFF! I just did stage 2 AFF today and it went almost perfectly. Made my JMs laugh by going backwards waaaaaaaay too fast and ending up almost backflipping, and going forwards too fast. Much fun though (though I scared myself with my backwards movement!). Cant wait to be able to fly solo. Good luck! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I did AFF stage 2 today. I managed to improve on all the things I knew I had to improve on (for now!) so I was really happy about the whole jump in general. After the jump I was talking to some people at the dz and asked them to show me how to pack, so I got a nice packing lesson which was good. I definately plan on knowing how to pack pretty soon. If not by the end of AFF, within a few jumps after it. I think it'll help me learn more about the canopy I am jumping (although that doesnt matter so much when you're jumping student rigs) but also give me more of an understanding as to whats going on above my head once my chute is open. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I thought that the feeling that my heart is going to come out of my chest was something that would go away with more jumps. Its funny thinking about it, because as I stand on the edge of the plane about to jump I feel like I'm going to slip and fall out and it freaks me out, even though the purpose of being there in the first place is to (properly) fall out. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Thanks Billvon and Skr for the info. I have just started skydiving, and I am still trying to get my head around knowing when to flare so that I dont get hurt, but what you both wrote helped (since I have so much to learn). Dont worry, I'm going to ask my instructors tomorrow to explain it again to me. I'm not actually allowed to do anything under canopy at the moment anyway, the TA is my god for now! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I find it ironic after reading all of these "stuid things I did"...that you have this for a sig line. In skydiving, I definately think that it's better to regret what you didn't do than what you did... jumping in high winds, downsizing quickly, swooping early, etc etc etc... I'd rather not do it and wish that I had.. than do it and wish that I hadn't. most everything else in life? yeah..I'd agree with your sig line...

When I read this headline I laughed. Then again, its not something that I take too seriously. Actually, I dont take much of anything too seriously. I can see why people might be upset though. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Orientation: straight Status: Single Humps: Not for a while (and planning on keeping it that way!) I found more important things to spend my money on. My friends arent impressed that I no longer go to clubs with them because I am spending all my money on skydiving! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I agree that its a good idea to go out to the dz before you start jumping there. I started AFF last weekend, but I was at the dz the 2 weekends before that just hanging around. Met a lot of people which made it really comfortable for me to start AFF there, since there were already some familiar faces once I got there. It makes it a lot easier when you've got people to talk to and ask questions aswell, plus - for me it was a good way to pass the time, because skydiving was all I was thinking about anyway! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
