I got my loan today for my first rig! I got a little bit extra so that I can afford a few extra jumps and helmet etc. I just went crazy and spent $600 on the Flyboyz dvd, Crosswind dvd and a malfunction video, and a Pro Track. I havent spent that kind of money since I started skydiving, and it just feels sorta wrong, but sorta cool at the same time! Pity I have to pay the bank back! Now, I cant wait til they all arrive! Can anyone tell me if these dvds are any good?? I assume the Flyboyz dvd is gonna be awesome, but I have no idea on the other 2. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I was thinking the same thing! He has to put AT LEAST 1 jump on it, otherwise, what's the point?! It'd have to be a special jump though. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I've never actually dealt with this first hand, so I know better than to give advice, but I found this site really helpful: http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/dualsq.pdf Also, do a search on the forums, it's been discussed here lots! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I'm not planning on freeflying for at least 150-200 jumps, so thats not a problem. I was speaking to a friend about this and he said that that sort of modification would require the manufacturer re-testing it to make sure it functioned properly which would get costly and basically not worth buying the rig. His advice - new velcro per 200 jumps. Sounds like the way to go. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Welcome! You gonna come for some jumps at Picton? www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

That sounds like a good idea, the only problem is it's a Vector, and I assume the manufacturer of these is in the US? I am in Australia, so sending it to the manufacturer isnt really an option. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I am looking at buying a rig with velcro riser covers, and would like to get them changed to flaps that tuck underneath. I spoke to a rigger today about it who said it was too difficult to do and if it was done and screwed up in the middle of it theres no going back. Just wondering if anyone here has experience with this being done successfully (or otherwise). www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I cant believe I overlooked this topic for so long! This has some awesome advice in it which I really need. I have 12 jumps without a TA or radio, and 2 of them are within 25m of the target, the others are all 40-60m from it. Tomorrow I will start focusing a LOT more on my canopy skills and landing where I am supposed to, once thats sorted I can focus more on my landings which are a little undignified at the moment! Thanks for the good advice everyone! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Thanks for the advice. I've decided not to get the rig, for a number of reasons, but partly because of the leg strap deployment. Theres so many used rigs out there surely if I look a little longer I will find one that I am happy with without having to make too many changes! Thanks again! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Sorry if this has been asked in the past, but I did a search which basically came up with nothing. I am looking at buying my first rig, theres one I am interested in which has a leg strap deployment. Since I have to do a conversion course from my student gear anyway, it wont be a problem as far as I can see at the moment, but I'm thinking it may be a problem when I sell it and get a new container with the normal BOC deployment. Should I just stick with BOC from the start or am I over reacting to nothing here? Also, are there any particular advantages or disadvantages to this deployment position? www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

haha i was so thinking that when i saw this thread! The best part was his expectant face just after he said it. No shame! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Firstly, take into account I have 23 jumps, and only the last one is of any relevance here! I have been jumping in the student suits up until last Sunday when I got a second hand rel suit that fits me perfectly. I did one jump in it at the end of the day, I was jumping with 2 guys who were bigger than me, and they put their bigger suits on so that they didnt go low on me, but in this new suit, I ended up going low on them(only for a few seconds). From that experience, I'd say a good fitting jumpsuit drastically changes how you fly, but as I said - I'm talking about one jump here, so I could be entirely wrong! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I was in a bar a few years ago, and started talking to a guy. After about 10 minutes, he holds his hand up, and tells me to place my hand flat against his. I think nothing of it, and do it, and his hand is considerably larger than mine (as most guys hands are) and he simply says "see how big my hand is, now imagine how big my dick is!". I thought it was hillarious, but I still just walked away. A couple of weeks ago my friend got the "I've lost my phone number, can I have yours?". We gave the guy heaps of shit for it! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I jump in Sydney, Australia - at Picton. I've recently finished AFF and the instructors are really good, and willing to help you out however they can. This is the website if you want to have a look(sydneyskydivers.com.au), but it's pretty cold here at the moment so maybe Thailand is your best bet! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

And this is why people say buy second hand for a first rig! That is second hand! I live in australia. As for not being able to afford 1 jump - my jumps are coached right now, which means they are more expensive because I am also hiring gear. 1 jump = AU$105. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Hell yeah, I was! I always thought people who jumped out of planes were mad, until I decided to try it, once. That once turned into a weekly thing. When I met my friends after my first (tandem) jump and they told me that I could actually be taught how to skydive I thought that was the coolest thing. I think I must have been living with my head in the sand because I had no idea people did this for fun other than the odd tandem now and then! Best thing I ever did, by far. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I already work 1 full time job and 2 part time/casual jobs for the extra money. Going to the dz to jump once per week is my only day not working, so I dont really want to make my one fun day another work day! Plus, I've only packed about 20 times, and there's not many people on the dz brave enough to jump my pack jobs yet! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

If they took my car now and sold it to get their money back they would get their money + extra, the car is worth enough even now. On the up side, my friend has agreed to lend me money to jump this weekend, so the world is looking brighter. I've also looked into a different bank to lend me the money for a rig, and it seems that might be the way to go if this application gets denied. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

It wasnt an "occurance", I changed the amount that was automatically taken out of my account by changing it on the internet. I dont see the problem, they get more interest for it this way, and I'm still paying it off well within the maximum time they will lend you the money for. It's a win-win situation, and I need a rig....... I need that extra money or I can forget about skydiving, which I wont let happen. I hate being up shit creek. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

For the past year, I have managed to get away with paying off less on my car loan per month than I agreed to pay. Now, you'de think the bank would be happy with this, since its going to get them more interest, but noooooo. Turns out they only just realised I was doing this, so started taking out the extra $100/month. That's skydiving money dammit! I am so annoyed right now because it's friday afternoon, I have been working 6 day weeks for the past 4 weeks, I was planning on jumping on sunday (since I am working tomorrow again), but now I dont even have enough money left for 1 jump this weekend! To add insult to injury, today I put my loan application in the mail, asking the bank for another $6000 (for a rig), suddenly my own rig is looking much further away. Bastards. I'm trying to get one of my friends to lend me the money for some jumps this weekend. She doesnt skydive, and she hates how much of my time it takes up, so the chance of her lending it to me is also pretty slim. Ugh. Aint life grand! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

Congratulations! I finished AFF about a month ago, and the last 3 jumps on it were hop and pops from 5000', 4000' and then 3000'. I thought I'd be scared to get out the door at 3000', but after doing the other 2 just before it was easy. You should go back now and do a hop and pop from 3000' just to prove to yourself you can. Personally I hate knowing there is something that scares me so much I wont do it, so if you're anything like me, you should just do it! Good luck with your jumping! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I think it'd be a good idea to teach this in detail (not just the quick "this is how we do a gear check" just before you get on the plane for one of your first jumps when you are so nervous they could tell you they've removed the parachute from the container and you'de still be ok with it!). Having said that though, if you want to know something you just need to ask someone who can teach you. I plan on learning how to do a detailed gear check in the next week, and I dont even have my A yet, but I want to learn as much as possible, and a gear check is something I'd love to be able to do for myself (with an experienced jumper watching closely at the moment!). www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

It was life threatening! If I wasnt able to run soon I was gonna kill myself! Actually, that is a complete lie. I was going mad not being able to run though, does that count?? www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I just ran for the first time in 7 months! I hurt my back 7 months ago and used to run almost daily before I hurt it. Running is the one thing I have been dying to do again, and today when I tried to run (third time in 7 months that I've attempted it) - no pain! Well, no extra pain on top of the pain that I just live with now! I'm so happy right now. I've already told all my friends, and decided everyone here needed to know too! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

I wish I could afford to go. I'm still thinking about it, most of my friends are going up for it and I'd be so jealous if I missed out. One problem...money. Even if I go I doubt I could afford to jump, and if I go and dont jump I really wont have any money for anything else. It'd be my first boogie! Maybe next year. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
