8 smoke canisters on one jump?? That'll get expensive fast! The paragear cold smoke sucks, the only thing that I've ever had any luck with is M18 (hot) smoke. I talked to Joey Costa, and he said that the Orbit Punks used to be sponsored by some company that made really good cold smoke. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

The VISO has a neat little feature that records your speed from exit to landing sampling every quarter second. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but I've gotten speeds up to 84mph under a JVX at 1.9ish. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

A bit off topic here, but would anyone be interested in taking a DZ karting trip sometime in December? There is a serious kart track at Virginia International Raceway, about an hour north of Durham. It's 5/8 mile and they have 50cc Zip karts for $50/hour. There's also an indoor karting place in Garner that runs $20 per 8 minute heat :( They have group rates if we can get enough people together. UPDATE: I just talked to the powers that be at manifest & the DZ will not be open tomorrow (friday) due to a lack of tandem students. The weekend however is booked up... go figure. I shoot video for a living, so i guess that makes me a skydiver. I started BASE jumping just a little over a year ago & in that time I've made 84 BASE jumps and about 750 skydives. Lately I'll have one slider up rig and one slider down rig in my trunk at all times. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

Newsflash! Tomorrow (friday) the weather will be 78 with light & variable winds and the DZ will be OPEN! There are at least 3 loads worth of tandems scheduled to show up at noon. Nearly every time that I do a SD ~1sec. delay in a crosswind my canopy tends to open offheading facing directly into the wind. I've got a sequence of still photos where you can see the packjob spin around 180 right above my head well before the canopy reaches line stretch. I think that it's really a matter of relative wind hitting the packjob as it's slowly pulled to line stretch combined with the direction that the PC is pulling it. I've seen a couple of people with BASE number tattoos. I'm willing to bet that they'd be against switching numbers. I'd be curious to know what percentage of jumpers on the list had a BASE number? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

For me it's a matter or direction. I'll take a SD rig and pull it up to go to a terminal jump. If I don't end up getting a terminal jump, I'll repack rather than just pulling the slider back down. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
