  1. Godd points. My point was more about the fact that we, in the "Western World", tend to confuse democracy with freedom and happiness. It may be so to us. But there are many parts of the world where, given the opportunity, the masses would vote towards the abolishing of democracy and would replace one authoritarian regime by another. Democracy is, in my opinion, a luxury. What matters more to people is to eat, be sheltered, reproduce, feel like they live in a stable society. Earn enough not to go hungry and homeless. In most dictatorships, a few percentage of the population rips benefits; a minority is oppressed; and the majority usually goes about their lives without really caring whether X, Y or Z is ruling the country. As long as they get left alone and survive decently. Trying to force democracy down the throats of certain culture can be dangerous, both for them and us. They don't care about universal vote, civil rights, market driven economy, etc... It doesn't make them worse or better than we are. Just my thoughts...
  2. He's certainly in a shitty situation. I looked "Between a rock and a hard place" and said "See Pervez Musharaf." One case where it is in the US (and its allies) interest to keep a dictatorship in power. 3. Maybe............but my post was more funny. Improper usage of the English language. It should read "my post was more funnier". "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  4. Glad to see you're OK. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  5. I had to block Sangiro, because he kept soliciting me to be a moderator. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  6. The stuffed ones are fun to do for beginners, but the dead fish aspect of them quickly becomes redundant. I like the real ones myself, but that's just me.
  7. The cool thing about internal stitches, is that if you pinch your nose really tight, and blow really hard, sometimes they come out of your ears.
  8. Ok. I will......NOT!!!! Yea another boring boogie in Ca. Not sure if I want to go. Chicks Rock, yea right. Sorry Nick, guess I'll have all the fun for you, and i'm not drinking any Absinithe either. No worries. My experience with Chicks Rock is that it's pretty boring... No turbines, no specialty jumps, and the party consists of playing bingo with a male only crowd. Booooooooooring! I hate you people. Have a blast though (and a cold one on me)! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  9. Can't you guys PLEEEEEEEEEASE stop writing about having a good time, partying, etc... at Chicks Rock? Pretty please? Cruel you are, people, very cruel. Can't you just pretend it'll be another boring boogie? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  10. Other than a predictable kitten genocide, what happened? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  11. Silly me! I happen to be uncurrent. I need a recurrency jump! Bwahahahahaha "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  12. Photos? Stories? Exotic diseases? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  13. I'll be talking to my lawyer regarding partyrights infringements. What's next, Zanzibar...??? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  14. You're the "one woman per skydive" kind of man, it seems. So am I.
  15. I strongly believe that within 3 years after the creation of an independant Kurdish state, Turkey will go to war against "Kursdistan". They will not take the chance of losing the southern part of the country, which will try to be re-attached to a Kurdish state in a heart beat. The bulk of Turkey's oil fields are in Southern Turkey (Anatolia), so they will never let it go. Iran will more than likely be very supportive of Turkey, as it has to deal with a pretty active Kurdish minority of its own in the region. The analogy with the creation of the US is, IMO, historically impossible. Unlike the US, which is a country made of immigrants having the will to come together and live together, most countries in the Middle East are made of ethnic and religious groups who were forced to live together and given various national denominations based on foreign decision makers. Some of the groups, some of them still under a tribla system which has kept them together for centuries, if given a voice, will show no intention of sharing a state with other groups. The options are to either give them the choice, and end up with an hyper fragmented region, made of city-states, tribes, emirates, etc..., or do what has been done for a 150 years or so, and force a strong regime upon these groups to "bind" them together (by force). Hard one... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  16. And if she still has room for seconds, there's always this great Swiss chocolate place called "Frenchy's unattended fridge". "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  17. I have a feeling the standards have been somewhat relaxed when it comes to the understanding of the English language...
  18. Not that I know of. They (I used to say "we") have to show basic knowledge of American history (which they can demonstrate with the help of a translator), but I don't believe comprehension of the English language is being required... 19. The bulk of designer wear sales is to average size persons (average more so by western European standards than US standards). If designers feel their work is best shown on skeletons, then so be it. They're custom made for the models anyway, and do not reflect what is actually being sold. Telling couture houses whom they can and can not hire based on weight and body shape is getting involved into creative decisions which, in my opinion, any government has no business being involved. Why not force a painter not to use the color blue because it can be depressing...??? Also, be aware that fashion shows are more advertising stunts than anything else. Franchising is where most houses make their money. For each Gucci dress sold, there are probably 50 pairs of shoes sold... 20. Canada has a couple. Switzerland has 3. In the US, should there be a need for an "official" language, it is my opinion it should be at the state level, not at the federal level. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  21. Maybe you guys should forget about English. How about gruntish? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  22. I suspect that unfortunately, to the world press (regardless where it stands on the issue), someone calling for calm is not newsworthy. People tend to turn on their TVs to see misery and chaos, not reason and zen preaching. I, for one, turn my TV on to watch Football (Soccer), so that's pretty chaotic... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  23. Mike, you know better than most that the balkans is still today a powder keg. For many historical, religious, geographical and political issues. Hell, 92 years ago, some fat dude was assasinated in Sarajevo, and next thing you know there are over 20 Million casualties... There has been, in the passed few years, a "coup" by the muslim extremists over their religion, where portions (mostly the poors) of the muslim population is being encouraged to react physically to any issue. This serves a political purpose for these extremists. Masses tend to act like sheep. And even though we use different means, we do act like sheep as well in the US, Western Europe, Oz, etc... We're just lucky to have bigger, better weapons than they do. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
