Slow news day? "Terror at 5,000 ft."
piisfish replied to AStack75's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
apparently straight linetwists are the worse... (and pulling like a monkey on the risers during deployment will tend to unstraighten the obnoxious stright linetwists) scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -
He did it without a wing-suit or a box catcher or a fancy runway :)

now the question remains, did he do it twice ? thanks for the laugh Jeb. I find it pretty cool that YOU post this subject scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM -
sundevil, do you dirtdive & wait for the plane with your canopy out ?? You must be a fast packer then there was a study on fabric ageing which was published a couple of years ago by Soko, have the docs in my laptopp at home. 7 days out would certainly give some additional age to the fabric, give it/have it given a thorough inspection, and jump if deemed airworthy

voltage is not a problem for us europeans, 220 is the standard, and 380 is a bit more difficult to get, but I also have ssome of that in my loftainer. will maybe look for a 42 stitch, if possible centerstart/stop. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

great story Beets, thanks for sharing. Congrats on the NSCR, turned you in so much of a hero that your lady stayed and married you

Usually not. However, sometimes the flight counter gets reset when extra maintenance is needed, for example, if some component fails and needs fixing to return to acceptable standards. Mark. and on the Cypres maintenance paper (or watchamacallit), they write down/report the number of jumps before revision. Given that most of the customers I have are/should be repeaters, I also write down the number of jumps at each repack, so I can keep a general track of how much they jump/abuse their gear. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

Would this machine be a useful one ? It is programmable, found one at a rather good price (around 1300$), and only 2h drive from home. Does anyone know if it is decent / owns or uses one ? Thanks scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

When the top "stop" has totally disappeard and you have 2mm of The threading which is visible you can easily identify it as abused scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

no, they will most likely remind all rigger not to overtorque barrels of Rapide Links. They need not know who the riggers were. Everyone can make mistakes. Let's help others not to make the same. Glad I learnt from Councilman that the Loctite thing WAS standard, and apparently required. The silicone tubes were standard too. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

how much do you load your Stiletto ? I wouldn't recommend the Katana with 239 jumps, I wouldn't recommend the Stiletto either. Neither would Performance Designs AFAIK. Unless you are around 150 lbs fully equipped, or have a serious ram-air canopy flying background you shouldn't be under the Stiletto. did you read the articles on "which canopy to choose" the PD website ? I encourage you to do so. Also read the Katana page on the PD website. do you honestly think you fit in this category ? Also it is not a canopy for "intermediate" experienced pilots (which is the category in which you actually seem to fit). Again I encourage you to get knowledge by coaching and mentoring, not shopping for ideas over the interwebz. Have fun, play safe. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

found 4 reserve Rapide links which were covered with a silicone tube. I had been taught that this was a bad idea, so I removed them. 3 of them were "pretty tight", but one of the silicone tubes slid up the lines VERY easily. When removing them I discovered that the 4 links had been overtorqued. A LOT. So i decided to change them. They were very hard to unscrew as they had been bent a little. The inside if the barrel had also been filles with blue Loctite Also with the inspection on the rig which made me start the thread, I found an almost 1 inch long rip in the reserve PC, a couple of little holes, and the whole top of the fabric was in a really poor condition. A couple of letters going to the riggers "in charge" of the rigs, plus a reminder to our Federation. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
