Tests take so long because they are busy testing other samples. They dont sit in a fridge somewhere for the fun of it. Im sure it was dealt with as quickly as it could have been. I say tough shit, she was unlucky but shouldnt be given any compensation because it was idiotic of her. Lucky she wasnt in some other country where theyd have cut her head off

Rules all been turned on their heads! If we know who you are now, thats 1 less thing we can use to authorise your detention. Its all about human rights. Is it really neccesary to detain you? Only stumbling block is if you get nicked for burglary they will almost certainly want to take fingerprints etc but I expect your detention would be minimal Its all a bit new so we dont even know how its going to work out. Its gonna take a few months to settle down I should think and there is going to be quite a few test cases in court arguing if detention was legal so i suspect we can see the rulebook hastily being rewrtitten shortly I suppose best advice is dont get caught! And you cant even listen to us on scanenrs anymore because we now all have secure comms

If you dont cause any damage then it doesnt constitute criminal damage and there is nothing that can be done. In the same way that squatters are able to enter a property by picking locks or removing boards and replacing them. Oh if found in possesion of a lockpick set you will be arrested for 'Gounig equipped to commit burglary, cheat or theft'. This is a notorisously difficult offence to prove as you have to prove the detained persons intent. Again, your rigs would be enough evidence to the contrary to undermine this theory. In a different premises, ie base of an antenna you may find yourself arrested on suspicion of burglary. Again as soon as you say all you were going to do wa jump and had no intention of damaging or stealing anything and provide your equipment as evidence, I suspect the CPS would throw the job out. Another little tip for you is that as of 1st January 2006 the basic arrestable offences changed and now to be arrested you have to meet certain criteria. For example: fear will cause furthur offences (like in case of drunk assaulting people in the town). I dont know what your current practice is amongst BASE jumpers but you might find yourself able to avoid arrest by simply carrying a form of ID such as driving licence. They could fill out paperwork and report you for the offence on the spot with a requirement to attend court. I suspect the job would be thrown out by then. This would only really work for UK jumpers, foreign visitors would not have an address suibtable for summons so would therfore have to be arrested under S24 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. I raised the topic with my Sergeant as he knows I skydive and he ssaid if he caught anyone who had jumped off a fixed object or was about to he would arrest them for their own safety and have them evaluated at our local phsyco hospital. A power given under section 136 of the Mental Health Act. Again you would be promptly released when found your not mental, just having a giggle. Ive showna n interest towards BASE and ive been waying up the pros and cons and the legalities. Seems that its easy to get away without any charges but I dont think its worth the risk given my position! Maybe ill just have to find another job in 200 or so more skydives

over priced skydiving helmet - e.g. bonehead and etc.
Scoop replied to dropzone_moron's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yeah, it has been discussed before. Some of the threads are quite detailed and explain some alternatives like snowboarding/ski helmets. Try here for some search results of previous discussions... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=ski%20helmet&sb=score&mh=25 -

British law states that if you carry any article with the intention of it being used as a weapon... it is an offensive weapon. ie, peopl ethat carry baseball bats in their cars, kubotans on their key rings or evena sharpeneded hair brush. It might sound dumb to you but its very effective. Stop and search is an amazingly invasive power that we use regularly on our persistant offenders. We love going through there pockets and disrupting thir day and they hate getting nicked for being in posession of something they shouldnt. Remember it was the UK police that were criticised for supposedly abusing this power. I think we do a good job of keeping the streets clean and I think the public feel quite saafe. Its when the media twist figures and manipulate statements that they begin to worry. Fear of crime is greatly disproportionate to the actual reality of the scale of things. Either its a different culture over here or you get caught up in the hype yourself. Echoing the other posters thoughts. I FEEL SAFE ON THE STREETS

Certainly sounds like a monoply. Rather than landing on someones head, I think of landing on someones roof or tractor at full whack and wrecking it... OK that might not need the full cover offered but I sure as hell dont have 40 odd grand to pay for a new John Deere in my account when im gone. Is damn expensive though But think of those people that get told to take up golf. Do you know how much that costs at some clubs

I say kill him, if hes that ill just consider it euthanasia. ANyway... its cheaper thanleaving someone locked up and provides more room for other prisoners.

230 out the door with a 200 Maverick reserve. Havent used this rig yet, downsizing off student canopies via rental gear.

Haha, I saw that recently over christmas and had to explain to each member of my family why it was a crap advert. Im not so sure they were as annoyed with the lack of detail as I was though
-
Haha, I know that one. I dont give to charities abroad, but I do give to our local air ambulance. Now that is selfish! But it skind of a karma thing. I just figure the people that use it the most should make a contribution! The crews are getting sick of coming out apparantly

Sadly not, but I also would be interested as it will be the first time I would have had to buy one. Waiting eagerly

woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
Scoop replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
Well then its frustrating that someone who initially reports a rape withdraws for whatever reason. This needs to be addressed and we have great victim support and sexual offences liasion officers who can guide victims and support them. Id say a great deal of offences arent reported with the 'what can they do attitude' but rape has that added phschological effect that must be difficult to come to terms with. Unfortunately the best time to gather evidence and pursue the investigation is as soon as possible so the victim doesnt have much of an oppurtunity to get their head together and think clearly about what they want to do. Its difficult and its certainly not a role id volunteer for -
woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
Scoop replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
Im talking from my experience of having to guard a so called crime scene for 12 hours only to later find out that she wasnt actually raped, she just got scared because didnt know what to do. Thanks for wasting our time. Ive done that 4 times and everytime it turned out wasnt actually rape. -
woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
Scoop replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
Im sorry but that figure is ridiculous. A much higher percentage of reported offences are malicious or incorrect than 1-3%. I would even go so far as to say where rape is concerned that percentage would be higher than other offences. Quite a lot of people report an incident as rape because they regret an action, they panic about an experience or as a malicious prank -
Its not just on the TV though, its billboards, newspapers, magazines, people in the street trying to sign you up. Its no more than legalised begging. I think they are putting alot of people off by the way they persistantly harrass them. I understand the worthy causes but I find it as invasive as those marketing telephone calls you get

I am sick of seeing adverts for charities on TV and in the papers and in magazines. Im well aware of the different causes thank you and if I want to donate I will. I hate the way they use guilt to try and get funds, for example I seem to see most of the adverts for starving children around dinner time when im sitting eating a very lovely meal and scraping the left overs into the bin. My Mum is a real sucker for this type of marketing and will donate. Surely this is unethical. So I guess im half ranting, half asking what peoples opinion is.

With my fresh out of groundschool head on Id be looking over my shoulder to check if I had a canopy over my head (I know it'd be obvious it hasnt as ive had a PC in tow mal myself - amybe more of a hesitation) if the PC doesnt launch off in the time its taking me to have a minor brain fart thinking whats going on then id cut away and pull silver! Luckily before, me changing my body position was enough to get the PC out of the burble but the result was basatard line twists!

Ive had a few of them through my old work, used to work for a call centre for a bank. Needless to say not everyone was happy with their banks service and used to whinge. I think these calls were realyed through BT and called 'type talk' or something similar. Generally they were all very good but can take a long time. Which when your working to targets can get frustrating. I can recall one occasion where I was basically having an argument with a guy about charges he had incurred (as a result of his own fault) and I refused to refund them because hes done it before and been refunded. I heard a long silence followed by the operator saying .... 'Im sorry, I think they've hung up'. It kind of lost its effect hanging up via a third party. Im not sure Id be so happy relaying all my personal details via a third party, ie bank details, security questions etc but then not much other choice I suppose other than get a family member to do it for you. Oh yeah, for those that havent had a call, in the UK when the operator has finished relaying the message they say "go ahead" which is kinda confusing at first Its a good system though. We also had a text phone in the corner gathering dust and it rang once. It was like the bat phone going off. Noone knew what to do and noone was trained. I think a manager answered it in the end, but we didnt knoww hat security procedure you could do over a text phone.

Could the vehicles carry a SCUBA type rebreather system. Im not talking the normal tank full of air but a proper sytem like what is used to stay underwater for great lengths. Im sure they could also have spare containers full of oxygen, so when the rebreather finallys does run out the mix can be reintroduced into the system. So instead of the normal 8 hours cycle you could prolong this. It wouldnt be like an underwater environment where youd have a few seconds then face suffocation, you could have enough time to change the neccesary parts and could even breath off another buddies octopus if neccesary. Maybe a bit far fetched but it could help. Theyre not exactly that bulky either. Sure they could be stored somewhere. Edit to add: after a quick goggle appears they might already be doing this, but more on the part of the rescuers than thinking about survivors. http://www.rebreather.com/
