my 1st cat, felix, died of leukemia. i was a kid, but i remember it well. he lived to be 13, although im not sure how long he lived with the leukemia (how long he had it). i know that up until he turned about 12 he seemed like a happy kitty. so i guess he went about a year feeling under par before he finally died. but these days, with my experience as a vet tech, ive seen cats go for a long time feeling for the most part, good! you'll know when you've done enough and its his time to go..until then, treat him like a kitty king!!!! i get slammed every time i have this discussion with anyone - but ill argue the other side here and say YES! very seldom do i not give what i can to people i see. the way i look at it, ill never know the honest reason as to why they're doing what they're doing. maybe they ARE scamming me, but i think the best of the people i come across until im proven otherwise. i used to bring a man breakfast and coffee every morning on my way to school. its hard for me to deny anyone unless my pockets are empty. true, there are many services and charities available to help homeless and "needy" people. but they dont have room to accomodate nor can they afford to help most. many argue that they should stop standing around begging and "go get a job". but when i ask who would hire someone that looks like most homeless do, seldom do i get a response. these people are forgotten and thought of as trash by most. i think its sad, and i wish i could do more. my 1st car was an automatic and i didnt think id ever want a stick - then i bought my car (5speed vw passat) and i will never ever ever go back to automatic!!! unless i get the chevy avalanche ive been drooling over Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!

man that brings back memories...the kids i grew up with were a little off i guess . i never did this because it hurt everyone else, but kids used to put salt in the palms of their hands, then put ice on top of the salt and close their hands. it would BURN your skin, and apparently the burn would be in the shape of a letter - that was the 1st letter of the name of the person you were gonna marry. no thanks....lol but the apple stem thing i remember well...it didnt work, i never got past E or F, and i married a Will Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!

sad thread for me i grew up w/in walking distance of just about every member of my family! now im about 1000 miles away from all (they're in texas, im in illinois) not too bad though, i still manage to travel every 3 months to see em Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison!

hey sarah! the kittie should be up to date on rabies, the distemper, and wormings already. some shelters also do bordatella. whatever isnt done needs to be done! the other vax include FELV (feline leukemia) and FIP (infectious paratonitis). and a heartworm test! do the test once a year starting at 1 year, and do them every year! keep them on heartworm prevention as well. if a cat gets heartworms there is NO treatment..it will kill them!!! oh and a fecal exam to test for intestinal parasites. depending on the clinic, vaccines run from 10 - 26 dollars each. its pricy, but once a year its worth it!!!
