  1. Does there exist a program that will automatically switch your desktop background on a daily basis from a group of images in a specified folder? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  2. LOL I love it. Some other good ones too. I finally found a reason to stop soaring and start weaseling. So this pastor wants to get away from everything for a little while - far away. So he goes to Africa with his little Dachshund. One day he's walking in the bush and decides to let the dachshund off the leash for a little while. Lo and behold, the dachshund gets lost in the middle of the dangerous African bush. As it is getting towards the end of the day and the sun begins to set, the dachshund is trying to find his way home when all of a sudden, out of the corner of his eye, he sees a Leopard running fast towards him. He pulls tense and panics, and looks around for any options. He sees some bones lying nearby, runs over and lies down with his back towards the fast approaching Leopard. Right as the leopard is about to pounce, he exclaims: "Man, that was one hellofa tasty Leopard!" The Leopard stops dead with fear, and tries to slowly slink away. Meanwhile, the monkey has been watching the whole development from high up in the trees. Being a silly monkey, he decides to go off and tell the Leopard that he's been tricked. He finds the Leopard, tells him what happened, and the Leopard says: Get on my back, let's go find that devious dachshund! The Dachshund is still wandering through the bushes, lost as can be, when all of a sudden he sees the Leopard again, running as fast as he can, this time with a monkey on it's back. The dog tenses up, panics, and looks around for any options or escapes - but sees none! So once again, he goes and lies down with his back towards the fast approaching leopard with the monkey on its back, this time with no bones to rescue the situation. Right as the leopard is behind the dachshund about to pounce and kill it, the dachshund angrilly gets up and says: Where's that friggin monkey?! I told him to go get me that stupid Leopard an hour ago! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  3. Does anyone have a digital version of this PD Poster? (Not the crappy little T-Shirt pic which is all I can find.) Thanks --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  4. Do you have the source for this data? Where could I find it? Like I said in the beginning, the data is crazy - I need newer data. BUT - according to the 1988 (bad?) data - you'll be lucky to still be alive after 10,000. Lastly - how is one jump dependent on the previous? They are without a doubt INDEPENDENT. Doug said it 100% IMO. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  5. Fortunate was I to be right there at the same time doing the same thing - except i let an apparently inappropriate word fly and was pretty much banned It would be a lot better if the cliff edge was more vertical - you don't get the feeling that you're being launched off the edge. IMO a swing INTO the gorge would be MUCH better! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  6. It's called 'dependent' or 'independent' events in statistics. EACH jump is INDEPENDENT of whatever happened the previous jump - statistically speaking. The more you drive, the more chance there is you'll die. No argument about it. The more time you spend standing in the middle of the road, the more chance you'll get it. The more you skydive, the more chance you'll dig a hole. Simple, statistical, truth. Happy jumping. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  7. Right, I agree with about 65% of what is said here.
  8. I'd get rid of this friggin numbness in my left cheek from getting fillings an hour ago. AAAAAARRGGGHHH... Better than no numbness and getting fillings like my dad though... --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  9. Yes. If anyone knows where I can find more current info, please let me know. He's not trying to prove that I should sit on the couch, mostly that he's smarter than me! Mostly I think he's challenging me. I didn't include the .xls like I wanted to 1st time off. Here it is, just drag down the cells to get to whatever jump number you want. HUMAN ERROR: You can say your safe, or not. Point is, despite the fact that most deaths are caused by human error, YOU ALSO are very much subject to human error. So if I can get deaths per jumps made, I can show him how much this statistic has changed in 20 years. He claims skydiving is less popular now than it was then based on an Outside article. - August 2007 issue of Outside Magazine (pg. 28) has a brief tidbit implying that skydiving is LESS popular now than around the late 80s early 90s: Free Fall: How a once badass sport lost its edge. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  10. One of my profs is trying to prove something to me. He sent me this: 28 died out of 110,000 jumps in 1988 yielding a rate of 25/100,000 dead (about the same as driving in a car). http://www.afn.org/skydive/sta/stats.html Using my spreadsheet this implies that in 1,000 jumps the probability of death is 22.12% and in 10,000 jumps the probability of death is 91.79%. Of course this has a couple of assumptions built in. Here is the spreadsheet. That MUST be IMPOSSIBLE. EVEN FOR 1988. Does anyone have more recent data for multiple years deaths/jumps? And where did the BASE fatality list go? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  11. I looked around a bit - they are nice, and then I double checked and my Calc 1 syllabus said no calculators with graphic manipulation capabilities (such as the 89). Would this be true for further math classes as well? 83 seems to be fine though - but the 89 is suited for statistical purposes as well. I could wait til class Monday to ask my prof but skydivers are much smarter and quicker. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  12. Kind of like walking into an American cereal isle here - everyone has their preference and there are too many options
  13. Taking Calc 1, 2, 3, Matrix Algebra, Probability. What's better - my roommates TI86, or my other roommate's TI83? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  14. Exactly... only 13 of the 25 countries have adopted the €. Reason is, I'm trying to figure out if it has anything to do with the Swedes being on Charles' bridge in the 16th century, or if it is simply because it is a popular name for a currency: Kurona, Kroner, British Crown, etc. Another Q: What was the currency pre 1990's? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  15. Why does Czech Republic use Kroner? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  16. Have definitely thought about getting down there. As per a suggestion I received, here is what I am looking for: 1. A professional, popular DZ with a good variety of interesting people and skilled skydivers. I would very much like to LEARN new things whilst packing, whether that be in terms of rigging or skydiving, 2. I would like to learn/practice either German, Spanish or French. Perhaps, but not so keen on Dutch. 3. A good amount of packing to be done, that will allow me to survive, and hopefully skydive as much as possible around my packing. I would like to pick up experience. 4. Lastly, a good atmosphere and nightlife, good surrounds that will allow me to travel just a bit. A beach like empuriabrava's would be tops. Is that too much to ask?!
  17. ANy idea whatis going on here? (I believe it is a 737 from EasyJet, from London going South East). --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

  19. So I am thinking about not completing summerschool in the States, but rather finding a job as a packer for the summer again, this time somewhere in Europe. Where would be the BEST dropzone to do this? I would also like to use my summer to either: Further my French, Learn Spanish or German, or learn/perfect my dutch. So where and who should I speak to? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  20. From IMDB: Where Are They Now (November 2004) Redwood, Mississippi. Just North of Vicksburg. He has a secluded home and horse ranch. I saw him at the Vince Gill concert five nights ago. In fact he has spent a great deal of time in Mississippi over the years, training in horsemanship and skydiving at one time or another in North Mississippi for the most part. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001821/bio --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  21. thanks, exactly what I was looking for --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

I can't find it anywhere on the net either, why the hell not? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
