  1. I lived in Melbourne for a while, and can see why it's well regarded, although the cloudy winters would get to me. And the surf is a bit further away and not quite as good as east coast. Visited Perth once, definitely a beautiful place, but don't know if I can handle being that far away from everyone. My company has some jobs in Sydney available, so that's a factor. And the fact that Oz had no recession and is going strong. Thanks for the pointer about Monterrey county dubjumps, I'll click a couple of submit buttons on that link and see what surfaces. Denver is also a good consideration, with family there. Seeing this many advocates will make me think about it a little more As for Utah, is living under the mormon authority really that bad? My few visits exposed some things that you have to deal with, but nothing that I can't handle - am I missing something? (You can always cart in supplies from across the border albeit a little more inconvenient, and there's state run liquor stores too?) Thanks for the opinions, this is helpful. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  2. Haven't posted in a very long time, but can't think of a better place to ask this question... I'm at a point where I'm trying to make a decision about where the best place is to go set up for a while. the criteria - i work in finance and value my career vs. other stuff...say...50/50. i have a couple years of solid experience (looking to corpfin/I-banking/PE/Hedge world - not picky) - i'd love to be able to start jumping again - have always aspired to BASE - be close to a place where I can continue paragliding, - get closer to the ocean to learn to surf, snorkel, scuba, - of course i love to ski - where the people are friendly & easy going The places I have been thinking of are Denver, Sydney, SLC, SanFran. (I am dual US/Aussie). I'm currently in the NE and don't like it much, I prefer to make friends who are less concerned with what they do and how much money they make and more concerned with how much fun they could be having outside. Any suggestions for places I should be evaluating in addition? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  3. Is anyone aware of any paragliding sites like dz.com? How many paragliders are there here on dz.com? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  4. Quick question, if anyone knows: I have excellent credit, albeit shallow. (A couple of credit cards through college years, never missed a payment, never carried a balance). Just financed my first car, at 8.5% (being the lowest rate available) in November. Of course, as banks check credit scores, I am beginning to get offers to refinance for 7%. Are these just offers to pull me in, before they check my true credit and tell me 7.9% I don't want my credit checked for nothing. And...does refinancing hurt your score in any way? How long should I wait to refinance, and how often can I do so? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  5. Great, thanks. Taking the other job-related factors into consideration as well, i'll probably move in August.
  6. If you could live in Seattle for six months - would you do it: 1. From 1 August to 20th of January, or.. 2. From 21st of Jan to 30 July? I'm mostly concerned about weather - which time I will be able to enjoy the most - I ski, hike/climb, getting into sailing, a bit of biking and of course jump also --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  7. That's a solution - but my real workbook is 5 sheets, all interdependent, the entire width of the book, 400 lines, that has to be saved every couple of days, same format. That way when crap goes wrong, it looks the same as it did yesterday and it is easy to figure out. However, I found the solution (I hope, we'll see). It's as simple as copying all the formulas you want (which, after being copied is now dependent on another workbook&sheet), and then going to EDIT>>Links>>Change Source -> and selecting the workbook itself, so it will source internally. Let's pray that it works! Thanks though --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  8. alright - I have searched for hours without finding an answer, and I always find one on here...see if you can follow along: I have two Excel WORKBOOKS: #1 and #2. in each, I have two sheets i.e. book1sheet1 book1sheet2 book2sheet1 book2sheet2 I have a formula in book1sheet1 that depends on data in book1sheet2. HERE IS THE PROBLEM: I want to copy the FORMULA from book1sheet1 to the corresponding cell in book2sheet1 so that the forumala in book2sheet1 will depend on data in book2sheet2. Pasting, Paste Special, and all the other crap I tried makes the copied formula, now in book2sheet1, depend on data in book1sheet2. I want an INDEPENDENT workbook (book2), that doesn't depend on book1. Anyone know how to do this?! Please? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  9. Just went to the drycleaners, and he wanted to charge me a minimum of $20 for $13 worth of drycleaning. I only had $12 cash. Someone told me it was illegal for small businesses to charge a minimum - which makes sense from a consumer standpoint. I can also see however, how the business wants to charge a minimum. What is the legality on this? Can VISA/MC require "NO MINIMUMS" ? Everyone's been caught by the $25 minimum at the bar - get drunk/buy everyone drinks/or pay cash. Is this legal? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

  11. A friend has a video they would like me to see. It's 38mb. She is not technically capable of any computer-internet gymnastics. Is there a way to transfer the file other than burning and mailing it? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  12. Great, thanks. I currently weigh 190lbs. W/ 20- 30lbs of gear a 1:1 would be 220sq.ft. I've flown a 190 for +/- 25 jumps when I used to jump more. Thus, to keep it safe, I'm ideally looking for a 200sq.ft. and no less? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  13. I'm just getting back into jumping (63jumps) from four years of on and off jumping. did 7 jumps at Deland in Dec, with a 200 for the last four. (I don't recall which container/main right now, but their containers are all the same, maybe someone can enlighten me). Looking at the Gear section, I am thinking i should probably get a 170-190 for the next 100 or so jumps. Am I right/wrong? With freeflying in mind, what container/main should I be looking for? Are there any guides out there? Thanks --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  14. I just moved to Southern Connecticut. In your opinion, what is the best DZ around, and when can I start jumping? (I am not used to cold jumping at all). --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  15. I'm going down to FL next Wednesday. I want to get recurrent with skydiving, and also scuba. I have done everything but my open water dive, and hope to complete that in FL. What are the regs and reqs between the two in terms of pressure change? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  16. Great, exactly what I want to hear. I've done a bit of tunnel time before, good fun. Do you recommend it because it would be preperations for jumping again, or just in general? Never really jumped in the cold. I didn't think that jumping in NY would be much fun until April. Full altitude jumps must freeze your balls off?! Do most people just stay current w/ hop and pops during the winter? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  17. Finally, I'm graduating and have a job offer. I'm contemplating stopping by Deland for a few days (going the FL anyways) to get current again, but this depends on a few factors. I would like to take the most efficient path to become proficient again (efficient in terms of cost and time). I have 56 jumps. I jumped those 56 jumps over a period of three years, infrequently. My last jump was summer of 2006. My job will most likely (99%, but I don't know 100% just yet) take me north (NYC) for the next six months. If I get recurrent (SIM section 5.2), i will then have to jump again within 60 days to remain current. How likely, in a cold place like NYC, is it that I will be able to do that? If I am not able to jump through the winter, then it would be better for me to just put off my itchy-ass-desires to jump again until the summer? What would be the costs of getting recurrent? (given that I can study the SIM thoroughly on my own). Would I be treated individually, thrown in with AFF first jump students, or thrown out of the plane for a hop and pop? Thanks
  18. Are intercontinental passenger ships still in operation? What choices (ports) are available? What about finding space on a cargo ship? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  19. I remember seeing a video with this soundtrack to it on Headdown.net when it still existed. http://www.radioblogclub.com/open/147328/denez/Lisa%20Gerrard%20et%20Denez%20Prigent%20-%20La%20Chute%20du%20Faucon%20Noir Where can I find this video? (It has some great european freeflying). --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
  20. Yes....and then click on the "trace precedents" button to see what cells factor into the formula in B3 or whatever cell you're looking at. I don't like to use the word unless I mean it. AWESOME! I love learning new things in .xls all the time, it's kind of (but i'm sure not quite) like the Bloomberg machine i'm on right now - VERY powerful - if I only knew how to utilize them better. But i'm learning...
  21. I'm looking a cell B3, and i'm wondering - what other cells reference cell B3. How do I find out? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
