http://www.bluemoon-outfitters.com/SkaggsMarlin/mikeskaggsgandermarlin10264.html It is the 2nd largest ever caught in Maui and I can barely move today. My back, shoulders, legs and hips are trashed. Tony Dominico....it was 10 times harder than when you and I had 5 tuna hit at the same time and we landed all 5... It makes you a celebrity in the fishing community here.

The voices in my head are insisting that I be an asshole to hearing impared people! They wont stop. Semi-seriously though....Mike... come on....I was at your house and your own family was rippin on ya for you to turn up your hearing aids & stuff. It is frustrating at times for both sides, and whatever side loses patience first, the effect is the same - communication stops. If you realize someone has a hearing impairment, pile on the patience. If you are heaing impared and the drunk bubba selling the beer at the nascar race doesnt have enough grey matter to adapt, pile on the patience and find a new bubba.

Bill, you are very correct. I had my realization that I have a disconnect between planned behavior in a crisis vs. what I actually did. In the Pitts S2B, if you land in a pasture, and it flips on its back like it usually does....If the canopy is still on and you dont have a canopy hammer, You are there, inverted until help arrives...Hopefully no fire. My other friend with a B and I had a thourough discussion, at dinner going over canopy jettison altitudes, scenarios, everything if the engine quit, I was confident I would naturally do it. Two days later, I go get it from a grass strip in Godley TX that was 2500 ft long....But there was a big puddle right in the middle so it was only 1200 useable. It wa muddy so I did a rolling half assed run-up and cobbed it. I kinda thougt something was odd but not bad, As soon as I was airborne I knew I was in trouble. It was missing on at least 2 cylinders and barely climbing. I was sure I was landing in a field. It kept puttering and I milked a 270 to a downwind landing (on 1200') After I langded, I realized that I never even thought for a second about jettisoning the canopy. Im pretty sure the issue was that you cant talk about it only, you have to train for it. Sit in the airplane and go through the motions,,,,,

"No one tried to be a Hero..." Be one darn it!!!
Duckwater replied to watchdog2's topic in Speakers Corner
we should start another thread Jumping out a plane going down is natural, charging a gunman is not. Discussing it now is offensive, and really ever it is pointless, you stand more chance of getting hit by lightning than face a gunman in a school. If I'm saying something is inappropriate,,,,, -

Am I the only one repulsed that this conversation is taking place? -
The greatest lie ever told was in Snowbird Utah last month. I was with my pilot friends buying lift tickets and they were getting Airline Discounts. I, on the spur of the moment, asked if they had a NASA discount. She asked if I was an Astronaut, humbly, I replied yes. Are you the pilot? (heres where you sell it) "No, im the payload specialist, I work that robotic arm"... We almost lost it when she looked at my friend and asked "Do you fly in space toooo?" By the end of the week, word had gotten around all the staff and several guests, to the point where I was signing autographs on pics we printed in the biz office. I studied NASA.gov to get some facts and lingo to impress with. Everyone played along. All they had to do is google to dfind out that Ed Duckwater is not an astronaut. (I was in the class right before diapernaut, I knew who she was is all - asked every time) The last day we were there, another Delta Pilot showed up. He does the same damn thing, he even has business cards....I thought I was clever.

On the green box on the right, click on "Gunmans Teacher Talks" http://search.cnn.com/pages/search.jsp?query=lucinda%20roy Her voice and accent are mesmerising but what she says, non scripted truth right from her broken heart is pure poetry. I am blown away by her class, compassion, composure and intelligence. I would vote for her for president, really. Soledad Obrien is probably too stupid to realize that she was told to "go to hell" in verse. If this is the quality of the staff at VT,,,,,,I might og back to school.

We have turned into a society of chronic rubberneckers, in every capacity. Forget the car wreck on the highway, where we selfishly ignore the fact that we are driving a 2 ton, potentially lethal vehicle to gawk, instead of focusing on the only important thing (driving).... Anything that can be reported, even with no news value, that is sensationalistic is impossible to ignore to the American people. I like to think of the worlds ills in a logical manner. Where is the most ill and that is balanced by the ability to do anything about it. Im not trying to be insensitive to the Va Tech massacare, just more sympathetic to the mundane mahem that we ignore completely. The VT massacare is a tradgegy for sure, but, compared to the other 45 people murdered that day, all the soldiers killed that day, car accident deaths and Darfur.....its perspective is different. Can we or should we try and prevent this? There are millions of mentally ill, this is a very rare occurance of extereme violence. I am afraid that we will overreact, and the rights of the mentally ill are in jeopardy. Why dont we address the fact that this kid was picked on, teased for being 'Chinese' and made a leper? That prob pushed him right over the edge. Where was the administration in his High School? Cho was a victim, long before the shootings. People are donating money, which is fine but what for? Certainly there will be no huge costs associated. Could the $ be used better elsewhere? We gave WAY too much money to 911 fund. The majority had life insurance and we give them more while the homeless stay homeless but it was the most sensational story ever. Remember, 42,000 people died that year in car accidents and we didnt pass a plate for them. Family dirty laundry is aired globally, they released it but we listen. It is not news, it is meddling in the lives of a family in crisis. Shameful. We have troops killed daily and all we care about is K-Fed, J-Lo or Britneys panty status. This is not news. Don Imus calling someone a name is not news. Giving airtime to Sharpton and Jackson is aiding and abeting the extorsion raquet they are carrying out, which would be impossible without a platform. The media is not to blame, we rubberneckers are. Is it possible to focus on importance when Paula is demanding 1st Class on Southwest? Not a chance. I could preach that we need to change our values and boycott the sensational, but I would be pissing in the wind. We will never change. Britney's shaved head will always trump the airtime that should be a story about the soldiers killed that day. Global warming is assured. No chance we change our lifestyles one iota. Go to a Wal Mart parking lot and watch everyone drive around the entire thing, searching for a parking spot 100 ft closer so they dont have to walk. I am implicating myself too.

Good idea to have people roaming around schools with guns?
Duckwater replied to Axe_Murderer's topic in Speakers Corner
I dont have fond memories. Being the 100lb weakling I was an easy target of the rednecks. Especially when I was dumb enough to wear a white Miami Vice Style suit..... It is amazing how mean we were. The shy people took the brunt of it. It seems wrong that the staff let it happen. -

Umm.....you are stereotyping, shame on you, you racist! But yes, Bubbas galore....Glass Packs, Wranglers, Skoal, Resistol hats and Justin ropers...... The stereotype is undeniable. -

ummm....in Texas, in 1986, we all had shotguns at school in the back window of the pickup. We would clean our guns in Ag class. Nobody ever shot anybody... -
Jesus Fucking Christ.... If I had a recording of everyting my parents called me and aired them with no context, they would look horrible. And I had the best parents in the world. Kim is a total piece of shit for airing dirty laundry at THE CHILDS EXPENSE. Was Alex right, hell no. The mom is the devil in this. One thing is for sure. Kimm Bassinger is a "See You Next Tuesday",.....she was before this and caused Alex to snap a bit.

No, no slack. You are all worred about this asshole's feelings. He didnt have a tragedy. What about the U Pres. These kids died on his watch, and Ill bet that he is devastated. Actually, the despicable party here is Fox News. The libelous rant of a jack ass is not news. There are 21,000 students enrolled so there is potentially 42,000 parents opinions. I guarantee Fox shopped for this guys sensationalism. They obviously agreed because an hour later it was gone....The only link I can find is on this post. Be glad you have a daughter. You dont want to know all the antics boys engage in the freshman year. And ...Campus violence should not be your worry, driving there should be. I wont post stats but it is not even close in risk.

FYI - this bullshit report was front and center on foxnews.com with a big pic of the asshole when I found it. An hour later I couldnt find a link to it anywhere...still cant. I told them to go fuck themselves in that news tip submisson window. I bet I wasnt the only one.
-
I got an idea, lets turn Don Imus' soon the be defunct ranch for sick kids into a ranch to house all the people that society deems to be a lunatic. The critical part is who gets to pick teams.
-
My best friend who is an AA Pilot, swears this happened last month. Im still calling Bullshit. Leslie Nielsen was in 1st class. The co-pilot went to the lav and had leslie behind the cart with the FA. He did his biz and had Leslie poke his head in the cockpit and go "Wer'e all counting on you, good luck" That is the holy grail of cockpit Jokes. If it happened , kudos.

I too am dumbfounded at how many people he killed with a pistol. And, if the reports are true that he only had 50 round of ammo, it becomes almost unbelieveable. Bill, I can truthfully say that I would smart off to Iranians until the beatings started, but I honestly dont know how I would react here. You would need a group to charge him, 4 or more. Charging alone would be suicide. The Asian community is worried about backlash. 99% of us know this had nothing to do with him being Asian, but Im worried about the 1% dipshits.
-
I heard that these Japanese Pilots in WW2 that were called Kamakazies were especially prone to suicide for some reason.... They were all males too.
-
I think his opinion is complete bullshit, offensive and sladerous. I said that I would be willing to understand if he had a child die, because I dont know what that would to to someone. The opinion/accusation would still be BS, but I could underdstand. Have an opinion, based on ZERO knowledge of policy, tactics or anything else, fine. But when you tell the nation that The guy who had students killed on his watch, who is undoutebly more devastated than this a-home - call him a coward and demand that he be fired based on an 'opinion' that is not based on fact..... I lump him in with those assholes that protest military funerals. Kick people when they are down.....yeah... Dont forget, the U Pres is an educator not a SWAT guy. We have insurgents walking into guarded Army mess halls in a war zone and killing a bunch of soldiers. And everyone had machine guns. Can we reasonably expect to ever prevent this in an unguarded hall?
-
One persons rant is not news. They found the one asshole out of 10,000 that would blame the President and call him a coward. That is not news, it is slander. Wouldnt the opinion of one of the parents of a slain student be more relevant and newsworthy? They are too busy grieving. Where is the outrage from them?
-
Paul, Of course we do that. But that is logically trying to determine what happened. We will blame inanimate objects or the deceased. I rarely here blame assigned to someone. If it is it is whispered at the bar. I actually think this is good overall. I love the fact that we don't have to find SOMEONE to blame for every accident like the rest of society. We realize that stuff happens and we accept the risk. The downside is that sometimes we dont act when someone swoops into 100 big canopies and we all have our head in the sand on the issue of canopy flight.

I can tell you, from outside appearances, skydivers appear calloused towards death. In an airshow, if a pilot dies, they cancel it,,,,at least for that day. Skydivers dont miss a load. Im not saying that is wrong, but it gives the impression that we are calloused. I am sometimes, and sometimes im devastated. There have been some accidents that were the fault of one individual. Everybody is very leery to assign blame, even when it is pretty clear. Have anyone ever seen a skydiver blame a DZO and call him a coward because someone else screwed up? That guy wouldnt be around long.
