Traffic Tickets in Texas gettin out of hand!

OK..This has got to be illegal. I guarantee these cops write 50 tickets a day or more on their 5 miles of interstate. Now we know where the money goes.. From Newsletter: SLP Customer Appreciation Day at the Texas MotorPlex in Ennis, Texas February 15, 2003 When not taking in the action on the drag strip or perambulating the show grounds, Race Day attendees could sample other event highlights, such as the Royal Purple/North Texas Lubricants display and the Northlake Police Department's 2003 PACE (Public Awareness Canine Education) Yukon. Equipped with 22-inch wheels, dual nitrous bottles, a megawatt audio/video entertainment system, and more flashing lights than the mothership from Close Encounters, this pearl white bruiser brings new meaning to the term "police presence." This town has less than a thousand people and 8 cops and they are spending at least 60 grand on a show truck. There has got to be something illegal here. -
This has everything you would want...Where are the traffic ticket records? http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/chlsindex.htm

DALLAS (May 26, 2000) - Marking the fifth anniversary of Texas' concealed carry law, a new report from the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) shows that Texans with concealed carry permits are far less likely to commit a serious crime than the average citizen. "Many predicted that minor incidents would escalate into bloody shootouts if Texas passed a concealed-carry law," said H. Sterling Burnett, a senior policy analyst at the NCPA and the author of the report. "That prediction was dead wrong." In 1995, Texas Gov. George W. Bush signed a law granting Texans the right to carry concealed firearms. This made Texas the 23 state to pass a concealed carry law since 1986. According to the report, the slightly more than 200,000 Texans who have become licensed to carry a concealed firearm are much more law-abiding than the average person. Comparing arrest rates for example: Texans who exercise their right to carry firearms are 5.7 times less likely to be arrested for a violent offense. They are 14 times less likely to be arrested for a non-violent offense. They are 1.4 times less likely to be arrested for murder. Moreover, of the six licensees who were arrested and tried for murder or non-negligent manslaughter, four were found not guilty because they had acted in self-defense. The right to carry may also be affecting Texas' crime rate in a positive way. Texas had a serious crime rate in the early 1990s that was 38 percent higher than the national average. Since then, serious crime in Texas has dropped 50 percent faster than for the nation as a whole. Murder rates have dropped 52 percent, compared to 33 percent nationally. Rapes have fallen by 22 percent compared to 16 percent nationally. This experience is consistent with the experience of other states with concealed carry laws. According to University of Chicago law professor John Lott, concealed handgun laws on average reduce murder by 8.5 percent, rape by 5 percent and severe assault by 7 percent. "Far from recreating the Wild West, concealed carry laws create a safer society," said Burnett. "The law allows law-abiding citizens to protect themselves."

Traffic Tickets in Texas gettin out of hand!

The more I research this, the more shocking it is. The average police officer per capita in Texas is around 1.6-2 per 1000. Northlake has 4 times that. What do these cops do? Here is the entire crime log for 2001. Crime in Northlake (2001): 0 murders (0.0 per 100,000) 0 rapes (0.0 per 100,000) 0 robberies (0.0 per 100,000) 7 assaults (760.0 per 100,000) 5 burglaries (542.9 per 100,000) 4 larceny counts (434.3 per 100,000) 4 auto thefts (434.3 per 100,000) City-data.com crime index = 242.1 (higher means more crime, US average = 330.6) They have 1 cop per 2 crimes a year. (none serious and Im sure the assaults and car thefts were at the Speedway, whis is a BS Juridiction of theirs.) Interestlingly, I can find statistics on EVERTHING in a second, except how may traffic tickets are issued anywhere in the state. Why are they hiding this info? Could it be that the increased # of traffic tickets had no effect on safety and they are making a fortune? I feel like Mike Wallace on 60 minutes. I think my next move will be to enlighten a reporter with the Dallas Morning News. This has fraud written all over it. PS, I have not been ticketed by them so this isn't a personal vendetta. I feel sorry for all the poor college students going back to Denton that cant afford a $100 ticket because they were keeping up with traffic. -
Rectum? Damn near killed em! Chris Farley - Black Sheep I miss him, alot.

Traffic Tickets in Texas gettin out of hand!

A girl I work with just got a speeding ticket for 48mph coming off the offramp. The sign says 30 for the ramp, the speed limit on the highway is 65 and the access road is 45....If you jacked down to 35, you would get rear ended. I get zapped with a radar at least twice every day on my drive to work by Northlake cops. I grew up here and never heard of Northlake, now the have at least 3 unmarked cars and 3 regular cars patroling a bare 5 mile stretch of I-35 between Denton and Texas Motor Speedway that they annexed at some point. The population of Northlake in the 2000 census was 921, yes 921. They have 8 police officers! There is no part of the town that is anywhere near I-35 but there are at least 2 unmarked cars (Black Camaro and a Black Dodge Intrepid) patrolling almost constantly. The strech of highway doesnt even have on or off ramps and there is nothing on the side of the highway. They get around the Texas Speed Trap Law, which limits a towns income to a certain percentage of traffic fines to other income because they annexed the front half of Texas Motor Speedway. I know the classic argument is "don't speed" but they interviewed a Dallas cop on Russ Martins radio talk show last week and he says most every officer in TX is under some sort of quota system. So, the officers might be doing real police work during the first of the month and get to the end, then, "oh crap, I need to write 10 tickets"...Better go sit at an exit ramp where 99.9% are doing over 30. Texas had 1745 Alchohol Related traffic deaths in 2002, the last measured year. Texas lead the nation in DUI deaths, even more populous states like CA and FL. Look at this chart, it is pathetic. http://www.madd.org/stats/0,1056,6914,00.html Drunks typically drive the speed limit. While our cops are out furiously generating revenue by ticketing people for doing 70 on a desolate road, the death toll increases. This is not the cops fault, however. They are mostly all as furious about it as everyone else. Their unions seem powerless against city hall though. It is these politicians that want to increase revenue and they waste our police officers hiding in bushes to ticket someone 10 miles over the limit while people die. http://www.triggerfinger.org/weblog/entry/5201.jsp -

Why Do Christians make it so hard to be a Christian?
Duckwater replied to Duckwater's topic in Speakers Corner
That brings up another quandry. I was brought up in Church and Private Christian Schools....I think it helped a little but having a Dad that would kill me if I got out of line was essential to the fact that I am not incarcerated right now. There are a bunch of people I went to school with that are neer-do-wells. I think the answer is apply Chris Rock's take on politics, don't be a Republican or a Democrat, be an American. I will surrond myself with good people, whether they go to church or not. Im not a Baptist, Christian, or Methodist. I believe in the Bible and that Jesus was the Son of God and died for our sins. (Or so Mel Gibson says) -

I think they would adapt and "see the light" -
As a pilot and someone with a good undestanding of aerodynamics and energy management while flying, the magnitude of this accomplishment cannot be understated. Mike Luigi is an amazing athelete and GREAT guy too.

I guess one of my big conundrums is the fact that I have found a group of people that are amazingly Christ Like, even though they don't carry it on a banner. Per Capita, the best people I have ever met, honest, loving, forgiving, accepting, non-petty, non-materialistic are skydivers. I am MAD that I think, categorically, more of skydivers that live in a tent and smoke pot. Skydiving really opened my eyes (or made me nuts) Where else do you have millionares and people that live in tents hang out, have lasting real friendships and do not judge each other. I can think of many skydivers that would give me their last cent if I was in trouble. Most Christians I know either wouldn't help me and judge me, or make me join their Bible Study. Of course, skydiving has its bad apples, but as a group...what great people. Don't get me wrong, I know some really great Christians (Avid in the Church) too but they seem too few and far between. Mabye all Christians should take up skydiving. Mike -
Id rather be dead right now than spend the next 30 years in jail. The wors thing about jail is that it is full of people that I dont believe are criminals. Drug users. They have a problem, they are not criminals....Criminals hurt other. People with diseases hurt themselves and ahoud not be punished.

Not really a pick up line but funny: Cyndi Tortelli and I were yelling across the bar at the bombshelter about a necklace or something. I said real loud.."Man! Have your boobs gotten bigger??" EVERYONE in the bar turned to see the possibly larger breasts and she turned a bright shade of red and covered her chest and fled. Mike

I really believe in the Bible and want to be a part of a Church and hopefully be a 'better' person because of it but, man, a large percentage of "Christians" are seriously whacked. Why are they SOOO against gay marriage? Divorce, by definition, destroys the "sanctity" of marrage more than a gay couple. And, how is it hurting them? We have prriest abusing children and we are more worried about people making a commitment that love each other? Why are they SOOO against Howard Stern? He is not piped into their houses. Set your dials to all Christian stations and forget it. He is not hurting you. Quit trying to force your morals on others by censorship. You certainly are not bringing people to Christ that way. Why am I so bad if I get drunk or smoke pot. (I don't smoke). All it says in the Bible is that you are abusing your body. Do they confront all the 300lb women at the Church Suppers to go on slimfast? Why are Churches so segregated? They might as well have back and white only signs on the door. For a group that is supposed to be accepting, forgiving and non-judgemental, they seem to be just the opposite. Im starting my own Church here in Waco if anyone is interested. Kool Aid will be served. Im beginning to think George Carlin is right. Religion IS the root of all evil. -
I think Michael Moore is extremely creative, and I think he is 'right on' on many of his points. I also think he is 'way off' on others. Bowling for Columbine was great. I agree that Marylyn Manson is not to blame. I disagree that guns are. They also used propane tanks. Is Hank Hill and Strickland propane to blame? I think all of us are to blame. We live in a society that tells Jocks they are great and kids like the Trench Coat Mafia that they are losers and "fags". We are all guilty. It made me think of all the mean things that I did and that were done to me growing up. Kids are little mean bastards. Its sad and I dont know how to change it. Whats even more sad is that the Jocks are no more prone to a sucessful life than the nerds. Farenheit 911 will have some good points, but I guarantee he will be stretching and spinning things ALOT. This film won because of its politics, which is ironic because the film bashes other politics. I wish the world would quit trying to find someone to blame, and start trying to find someone to heal the world. We need healing, forgiveness and love, not blame and revenge.

I really do see both sides of this issue and there are extremists on both ends. Deer are like big rats and, left to their own vices, can easily beome too lare in number to sustain, then they die of starvation. That said, I could never shoot and kill anything that wasn't a threat to me or my property. But Im glad that there are people that hunt, as I think it is necessary and needs to be regulated. Mike
