Let's say someone asks "how are you?" And let's say things are going spectacularly SHIT. What do you answer? Discuss, elaborate, expand, et cetera.

Then why support the cheap bastard? If I wanted McD's-quality-food, I'd have gone to McD's. I didn't, so I expected a little bit of service. It's completely besides the point, but I used to be a very generous tipper... Lately, however, I have come to re-evaluate this whole tipping thing... I have come to the conclusion that I work hard for my money - if you want a piece of it, you should earn it just like I did. I'm not asking my waitor to be a performing monkey, but I'm CERTAINLY not going to pay extra for bad service. I've worked at McDonald's for minimum wage. It sucked. I've worked like a hamster on a wheel in big companies with promises of bonuses which never materialised due to overall poor company performance - that sucked. It's life. Ya don't spit in someone's face and ask them to say thank you. Yeah, man... You could learn a lot from Squeak in terms of "Insulting People 101" Squeak is an amateur. He couldn't insult Michael Jackson in a kindergarden classroom. "101" usually being the introductory-level course... Not sure what kind of clever insult you think you have just thrown at me... Pretty sure you have not a clue about me, though!! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

You didn't tip? They make $2 an hour and you can't toss them at least 15%? Was she mean to you? She didn't cook the food, Why are you taking it out on her, the cook is getting paid 5x what she is paid, he screwed up, but he doesn't lose a thing when you don't tip. I think I can't call you what I want to because of the personal attack rule. Then you have the nerve to bitch about it on the internet! I always tip at least 20% unless the service insults me. Top be fair the server should not have called you out on it and waited till you left then proceed to talk mad shit and make fun of you. *Rant over They do NOT make $2 an hour. And they don't deserve to be rewarded for: 1- Doing the bare minimum their job requires 2- Doing less than the bare minimum their job requires (which was the case here) And insulting me about it in front of everyone was poor form as well. I am not responsible for a manager underpaying their staff. I am not responsible for the waiter's career choice if (s)he feels (s)he is underpaid. I am also not responsible for rewarding poor service. I don't think this practice is allowed in Canada, although I'm not sure. But I STILL maintain that tips should be optional, and should be for EXTRA good service. I just committed a big social no-no... I ate at a restaurant and didn't leave a tip. I got up to pay the bill; I paid by card. I selected "no" when the thingy prompted me for a tip. The waitress held onto my card and asked me - did you leave a tip on the table? And I said no. She said "would you like me to ring it through on your card" and I said "I didn't think tips were mandatory." Still holding on to my card, she told me "it's our salary"... When I went to grab my card back, she had the nerve to lecture me on how rude I was being!! And that's when I lost it. I turned to her and said: "I work as an accountant, and I don't get paid extra when I just *do* my job. Extras are for when you do an *excellent* job." I know this kinda makes me a twat, but having just paid $12 for a disgusting poutine, sat in the corner, under a dripping air-conditioning unit, and waited ages first to be served, then to get my food, then to receive the bill... Let's just say she was lucky I didn't insist on a refund. Tipping, my ass! Meh... I'm not so keen on getting a Moroccan visa Seriously, though, there is no advantage (visa-wise) in us getting married. I am not French so he wouldn't get anything here... We don't live together so he would get nothing from the UK. I'm not a Canadian resident so my country doesn't give a rat's ass about him either. Basically none of the countries would recognise him for about 4 to 5 years... No... Marriage is only worthwhile if you want to legitimise bastard children and I don't plan on getting any of those either "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

Great tip, and although I think 25 bucks per night is a pretty good deal, I will be staying for 6 nights and am currently penniless... Mom is looking into it, but I'm still looking to crash somewhere for the time being... Any leads would be welcome - thanks

Ok, but make sure it's a large suite. We'll need plenty of room for all of us. Hmmm... Tempting, but somehow think the boyfriend wouldn't be thrilled at the idea of "sharing" me!!! Well, just received confirmation that my training is in Montreal - WOO HOO!! Small hiccup, however... The organisation is paying for accomodations for first and last three days but not in between... I therefore need to crash somewhere (in Montreal-ish area) from 1 Sept to 6 Sept.. I'm not fussy, I am house-trained, and I will happily sleep on a couch or on the floor or in a bathtub!!

Well, given I started this thread in response to a BBC article, I'm not surprised they're piking up on the same issues being discussed here as a result!! I think I read somewhere that ridiculous sentences were being handed out (or at least considered) for things like "inciting people to riot via FB or Twitter"... Obviously this sparks new debates as to the hyppocricy of "blaming social media" when the news is looping 24/7 info/footage derived from the same sources and that is simply being considered as "news"... Hmmm... "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

Best complain letter ...... ever SFW unless you work at Virgin

Man,,, I seriously need to work on my complaint-letter technique/prose!!! I also liked this one which came up in one of the links: http://www.accountingweb.co.uk/anyanswers/letter-hmrc-probably-not-real/497695 "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss -
That is a very poorly worded question as it deliberately pushes people in one direction... I think the examples I gave (including one about the effect of a police record on future employment opportunities) was sufficient to highlight the dilema. Nah... The handset was stolen a few weeks ago... I would have noticed a groping/roaming hand during the Mr. Muscle incident... Though to be fair, I may not have protested too much!! Just reading an article on the BBC about the dilemma some parents are facing about turning their chidren into the police following the rioting/looting going on last week all over the UK... Some parents answered yes, they would (or did) denounce their offspring so they would learn the consequences of their actions... Others said no, mindful of the negative impact of a police record on their future careers... Some said it depended on the severity of the crime but would prefer to deal with it privately/anonymously... I'm in a bad position to judge, as I haven't reproduced (!) but I certainly hope that any children of mine would have solid values and not get swept up in the moment and/or involved in criminal activity in the first place... So... Would you turn in your child??? "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
