  1. Nope. That would have been *too* easy... "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  2. No way - too many compromising pictures!! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  3. Yep... As soon as it happened, I turned the Mac off and haven't touched it since today, precisely for this reason... That if the emails can't be recovered from our end, perhaps they are still on the Mac. *sigh*... Everything I'm reading suggests I can't do it myself. Heck, I can't even start it in Hard Disk Mode because my Macbook Air has Thunderbolt and my iMac has Firewire... Grrhhh... But if someone knows a miracle cure, please share it!!! 4. Looks like we should have had something like this already... But from the description, I'm not sure it will recover what is already lost... "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  5. I considered posting this in the video forum, but it's not really editing-related... Can anyone personally vouch for a data recovery programme that will allow me to restore my deleted emails? Our IT guys so far have had no joy recovering from the back-up so I would like to try from my Mac directly... Note: I am looking to plug my Macbook into my iMac, so the software has to be for Mac. 8. When you have the option to select your commercial flight seat, which do you prefer ? Personally, I like to have the quickest exit possible... Heck, on some airlines, you can sit anywhere, and as most people don't know there is NO FIRST CLASS, I usually get to sit in the very first row - AWESOME!! 10. Education is an investment... How much you get out of it depends a lot on what you put into it... I had a hellish time working + studying at the same time, but I am VERY glad I did it. Stick with it

  12. I used to swear in just about every sentence without even thinking about it... But ever since I went civvy, I've had to tone it down... Been *not* swearing for so long it no longer is my default reaction. As far as insults go, I like "asswipe" or "asshat" but I only use it on special occasions "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

    Django Unchained!

I am a huge fan, but to me what slightly ruins his genius is that he doesn't know when to quit... His cameos are cute, but he gave himself too much of a role this time... I kept thinking the movie was ending - but no, it kept going... I think this happened about 3 times... Explosions are not as impressive if you have them again and again and again... I think it would have been sublimely superb with *just* a little less... Still an awesome film. 14. I don't know why but my mac email would periodically tell me to put in my password for an email account, and then would proceed to re-sync it like I had added this email for the first time... It was a little bothersome so I decided to stop using it... I deleted all my accounts and at some point it asked me if I wanted to also delete the emails from my server... I assumed it meant the Mac server (not my work server with all the original data)... STUPID mistake: I clicked "yes" So here I am, email-less at work... FORTUNATELY, I have one month's worth of emails on my Blackberry... But any attachment I didn't open previously is in some kind of black hole... I think I need to get myself a cable to connect my Macbook to my iMac and restore the deleted emails from my hard drive that way... 15. EXACTLY!!! We have backups, and I'm also looking into solutions from a very good, very geeky friend... "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  16. Hum... I had set up an Exchange email with my Mac Mail app... To save space, I deleted this account and everything that was stored on the server... So my (work) Outlook inbox is now TOTALLY empty. Nothing in archive, either. Oh dear. I am *trying* not to panic... Our IT guru is on the case. I am torn between wanting to cry at my own stupidity and wanting to laugh because until it's resolved I can't do ANY work!!! 17. Oh yeah, *really* resented practicing when I was young, but now I can spend all day trying to learn something and I don't even see the time go by!!! I'm so thankful for the groundwork I already have, because without it I'm certain learning the guitar at age 30 would have been pretty much impossible. 18. Actually it's more than twice... But the one where I remember very clearly thinking "this is a stupid way to die" was when I dropped my bike and I went skidding across the other side of the road... I thought for sure I would get hit by on-coming traffic but actually nothing happened. Everyone stopped and I only got a teeny scrape on my knee and a mildly damaged bike. 19. There are probably a lot of factors here... If you were made to practice consistantly (ie: about half an hour EVERY day at first and then more like an hour every day), you would read music like you read books... If your parents were musically inclined and helped you to practice, that would also help a lot. If you naturally had rythme, that would help... But if you started around 4 years old (like we all did in my family), you would never be able to know whether you naturally had a good ear/rythme or if it was learnt at a very early age. I think when you are extremely young, you learn music like you learn a language. That is to say, with a lot less effort. Perhaps one or several of these things did not work in your favour... Or perhaps you are one of the rare people who are tone deaf... But your intelligence with language (I read most of your posts) would suggest otherwise. 20. I would do my damndest to ensure they learn to play a musical instrument. I HATED practicing the piano when I was a kid. For a number of reasons, I haven't touched a piano in ages... I'd always dreamt of playing guitar so on a whim, I bought a one a couple of years ago... I can now pick up a song I like and learn to play it reasonably well within a couple of hours.
  21. Twice I thought "this is a stupid way to die" but remarkably I've never massively injured myself (including those two times!). "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  22. Believe me I would not go through the hassle if it wasn't properly damaged... It got knocked over with some force, it seems, and the whole right side paneling is cracked / damaged (the right front indicator is now firmly lodged *inside* my bike). All that plastic costs a lot - even second-hand... 23. I'm looking for general advice... For example, my boyfriend told me not to bother calling or emailing anyone - I needed to write a letter that has to be signed for in order to have a paper-trail. You'd think email is a paper-trail, but apparently over here it's just going to end up in some fucktard's inbox and sit there FOREVER without a reply... 24. Short version: My motorcycle got smashed whilst parked in the designated motorcycle parking area... There are witnesses who saw builders move bikes from the non-designated area into the designated area. These witnesses saw the builders drop a couple of bikes - no one saw mine fall specifically. There are picture of the builders moving the bikes, pictures of the damage to my bike (which should never have been touched), and plenty of witnesses who saw them poorly handle the other bikes. Getting the name of the building-work company is like pulling teeth, but I need this info and with enough asking around I should eventually obtain it. I imagine they will claim they never touched my bike. Second recourse is the fact that the "temporary bike area" (to replace the area that is being condemned) is totally inappropriate for bikes, as the terrain is soft, and gives way every time there is the teeniest bit of rain. So even if the bike fell on its own (which I can't for the life of me believe), there is someone to pursue... Advice would be welcome from those of you who are good at dealing with pesky insurance/admin claims...
