Ah ha haaaa!!!! Boy.. This just takes me back.. My first class in aviation systems sounded *exactly* like that!!!! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  3. More and more I'm getting the impression that men have an aversion to "cute" by default, but that sometimes you can get away with it depending on the context.. Is that a pretty fair statement?? 4. Jobs-wise it looks good, otherwise I wouldn't even consider it. I'm *not* tossing my career aside for a boy! I think I already know I'm going to take the job here.. I just haven't quite accepted my decision yet! But yeah.. In the grand scheme of things, 6 months is not a long time.. 5. The only thing tough about the decision is that I know you're right, but I *want* to move to Amsterdam!! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  6. Since October.. I agree this is pretty recent.. We both view it as an opportunity for us to get to know each-other better and if it doesn't work out it's not a biggie.. He's only there until the end of September, so it would be like a trial period of sorts - after 6 months if things are going well we can decide what we want to do next.. Still see each-other but live separately; move somewhere else together; go our separate ways.. 7. I'm sure all of what he said was true, but I was too busy laughing my ass off at what was happening in the background!! Good one! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

  9. After several weeks of tormenting myself over what to do next, I finally decided to relocate to Amsterdam to move in with my boyfriend. I even had interviews lined up.. As always, however, plans never work out as planned!! I got a very last-minute interview request for an amazing opportunity here in London. I went and almost immediately they offered me the job. Great company, great role, great people - great everything. They even suggested flexible work hours to allow me to commute more easily to Amsterdam because the agency told them about my situation.. I have a difficult decision to make.. My heart and my head are pulling me in opposite directions.. But honestly, I'm so delighted that I have two great options to choose from.. It's so much less nerve-racking than not having a clue what to do (or not having any options at all).. Sorry I've been so cranky/self-absorbed/emotional for the last several weeks, but thanks to all of you who have been extremely supportive. 10. Unless its your pet-project at work. Then sunk costs are extremely important. No.. Sunk costs are in the past, and if the best option is to disinvest, that is the best option irrespective of past losses/investments.. I'm not saying that past investments are irrelevant.. They affect how much profit/loss you make.. I'm saying you should not base your future decisions on what you have already put in. You should just always take the best option. Otherwise, you may avoid a small loss only to incur a bigger one.. Or you may sell for a short-term profit when you could have made a big profit by waiting.. 11. When dealing with real estate, you have to take the emotions out of the equation. The place you live in now with your family is your home, the other place is just a house. Do the thing that is financially better for you, period. COMPLETELY agree with Skymama. And here's another thing.. In Accounting, they teach you about the concept of "sunk costs".. Essentially, it's the idea that past investments should not be factored into your decisions for future investments.. In other words, when deciding what to do with your money / investment / asset, you should only think about whether it's a good idea to keep / sell it based on what makes more financial *sense* moving forward, not how much money you have already lost/gained.. You can't change the past, but you can *try* to pick the best option for the future. 14. Oh come on.. That is so nonsensical it's actually a little funny.. That's a silly as saying that men who have a lot of foreskin experience pain when that skin gets yanked back during intercourse.. I'm pretty sure someone made that up to legitimise the surgery.. I'm not saying I'm against it.. I'm not, actually - I don't think it's any different to other forms of cosmetic surgery.. It's not necessary, but some people want it. Where I take issue is when false claims are made about our anatomy.. Like the one above. I just don't buy it - sounds like bollocks. 18. Depends on whether you think the market will recover, and how quickly (if you think it will recover). You can sit down and do all the numbers, but the reality is that they will be based on assumptions.. Your resulting analysis is only as good as the assumptions you make, so deciding on that basis, you have to also assess what is your attitude to risk.. If you're planing on investing over the long term, you might take the view that over time you will end-up paying off the house, which could be the source of regular income for relatively little work. If the market just keeps going down, you might get more return on your investment if you had realised your losses early on, but there is no guarantee that your alternative investment would be successful.. If you're near retirement and you're realistically never going to pay off the mortgage, making a small (but known) loss might be an acceptable solution.. Just a few things to think about... 20. And just what is included in this Ultimate Meal??? My morning routine for the past several years has been.. well.. very routine.. I wake up hours before I need to and around 5 or 6 AM I get tired of trying to fight it so I get up.. I turn on the BBC News, check my emails and eat a bowl of cheerios. I brush my teeth, get dressed and walk to work. "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
