Brian Germain's Seminar Schedule
nbblood replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I've heard rumblings of a Lost Praire Seminar during the LP Boogie. Any truth to this? Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
I've heard rumblings of a helicopter. Or, at least that's what the website hints at. Wish I could be there for that. I'm sure Dawn will be there though. Oh, and the weather on Saturday was awesome for the Lucky Boogie, so don't give up on it!! Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Sabre 2 170 Observations & Advice Please
nbblood replied to StearmanR985's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
That's exactly what I learned when I started flying my Sabre 2 170. Video and a little coaching and I got it right. Twas a good education. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
Yep, light coats!! I have a rig with some tie-dye on it (blue and green on white). I didn't have any problems with it. Gotta stay with the light coats. A sidenote, I think scotchguarding is well worth it. I cut my finger packing and didn't notice and bled all over my rig, some pretty bad spots. Then I forgot about it for a day. Still, I got a damp cloth and wiped out all the blood like it was nothing. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

That sounds like a pretty good price. One thing to consider is I don't think you'll be able to go any smaller than the 170 in a J4 without it being pretty loose. Of course it depends on what type canopy you'd put in it, you'd have to check pack volumes. If you're planning on downsizing while you have this container you might want to think about that. I am not a rigger but I did have a Javelin resized by SunPath. They will not put hip rings on it if it doesn't have them already. However, I had the laterals resized and new leg straps put on (went from B12 snaps to thread thru). I also had them install a bridle cover and replace the BOC pouch while they had it. I think it cost around $200 for all that. It sounds like you have the exact same problem I did, mine was a little long on me. When I got mine back it was perfect. I was very pleased with the results. Aw hell...so, about lost log books...
nbblood replied to schattenjaeger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Unfortunately the SIM says that each jump used to obtain a license and/or rating must be logged with specific information and signed by jumper/pilot/etc. that witnessed the jump. Haven't been in that situation myself, but I'm sure somebody has some valuable input on how to fix it. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
Considerations when chopping a rental canopy
nbblood replied to Nightingale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I voted, nope, lose it pronto. However, in this case if it was my equipment, I'd have done the same thing you did. You thought you could clear it and you did....nuff said. BTW, I have a Jav that has the same sort of risers, i.e., no place to store excess line. In that case I recommend you "make" a place to store it. There's a good article on how to make stows for these risers, but I can't seem to find it. Bottom line, I cut a locking stow in half, lengthwise (so it's half as wide, but otherwise still intact). Then threaded that through the attachment point of the toggle keeper and secured with a larkshead knot, i.e., the same way you attach a new stow to your dbag. Voila, keepers for excess brake line. That may have prevented the problem in the first place. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
SIM Part 2-1, paragraph K, subparagraph 2c, requires students wear visual altimeters. subparagraph 4 requires AFF jumpmasters on an AFF harness hold jump wear visual altimeters. You said you didn't know of any....there's the two I know of. However, in this case it doesn't seem to apply (obviously). Blues, Nathan Edited for spelling Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Congrats and welcome! Read up, it's good you are already digging into the SIM. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Exactly! Couldn't agree more! You could also look at it as the DZ is trying to help make up for the fact that women get paid less then men for the same job in the U.S. Maybe they're trying to even it out a little! As far as if they made rates according to race or religion, why then that might not be a good marketing strategy. Is it discrimination? Call it what you want, can't argue that it isn't. Bottom line is the business can choose what it wants to do. If you don't like it, don't go. My advice, for those that don't like it, is lighten up, enjoy it. But if you choose to make a stand on this issue, by all means, that's your prerogative. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Congrats!! BEER!!!!! Was Dawn on the jump? Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
-
LMAO.....that's because the women aren't near as interested in being in a plane full of guys as the guys are interested in being in a plane full of women!! Sounds to me like their marketing is right on!! If we can just lure the women here, the men will come! Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Do you still call the DZ where you learned home?
nbblood replied to Andrewwhyte's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The place I learned, The Ranch in New York, was merely where I was located at the time. It was great and I'd love to visit from time to time, but it was never really "home". Being in the military keeps me away from "home" most of the time, but before being sent to Korea I was jumping where "home" really is. I actually have two homes, Skydive Ogden in Utah and Skydive Mesquite in Nevada. They are both "home" to me and always will be. However, I've had the fortune to visit many DZs and every one has made me feel like another home away from home. Now that I think of it, can I pick the USA as my "home DZ"? and all others as my home away from home? Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
