Yeah, it is beerable, but I was already there with my first night formation jump, and first jump in the am, etc. There is a one case per jump limit. Glad it worked out for you, Mouth. I tried to get my flight instructor to fly down to Thomaston, but didn't manage it. He actually had another lesson after mine (10pm). The scenery was sweet over Rome at night with all the mountains, etc. around there. Launched a 4-way out of the Cessna 182 at about 3am. First time launching a formation out of a Cessna. If you're going to that extreme you should have green chem lights on your right side, red on the left side, and a strobe (red preffered) on your ass with a flashlight pointing forward. Duh! I was just there yesterday (on 4 seperate occassions) and I forgot to ask. Too bad about your car. I had quite the aviation day yesterday. Drove up to Atlanta Air Sportz in Rome, GA with my brother-in-law who was doing his 1st jump. Drove back home and got a plane and flew back later to pick up his video. Most awesome 1st jump video I've ever seen, and I've seen allot (you rock Eric!). I was supposed to chase them and dock, but I was very late getting out the door. I should have been positioned differently, but now I know that for next time. Since I couldn't catch them before breakoff I just went down near them and watched them deploy. Then I tracked about 100 ft directly in front of them. It was awesome. Flew back home, ate, and then drove to another airport for an instrument flying lesson. Flew approaches at three other airports, including Rome. I drove from this airport back to Rome and did a 4-way night jump at about 3am! Way too cool. So only two jumps, but both beer worthy and 3.5 hours of flight time. Not a bad day. I guess I'm too late, but for anybody else who is looking for night gear I'd recommend the Firefly Plus. It is a strobe flashlight combo. I mount it on my webbing with the flashlight in front and the strobe behind. That way the strobe doesn't blind me and I can use the flashlight as a landing light. The BSR's say B license requirements which you already have so it shouldn't be an issue. My advice is that you have fun, and make sure you altimeter is well illuminated. I'm flying up with Broken Eagle and Dead Bird. Finally managed to get a plane. We're going up to Chicago first and then coming back down to Quincy. It's going to be so cool, both the flying & jumping. I just found out that they changed the jet day to Tuesday for anybody else who didn't know that. The bad thing is we'll have to fly up there naked and buy clothes there. We're really close to the gross weight on the plane. Or we could just take less fuel and stop on the way. Hmmm.... Will Mouth get her 200th on a night jump? That would be cool. Or course, then I'd miss the pie action. Won't be at Thomaston tomorrow. Got a packed schedule that includes helping somebody move, flying my brother-in-law up to Rome for a tandem, a flight lesson from 6-9pm, and then either driving or flying back to Rome for some night jumps. Only advice I can give on the night landing is that if it is dark where you land, flare slowly and try to plane it out so you won't be suprised by the ground and try to surf out the landing. Worked for me. Hope you get a little more enthusiasm then we had last time. Oh, yeah, that "swing" does look a bit strange. Yeah, don't think Rome would be a good option for you coming from Dublin. Besides, at the moment they are using Cessnas. If you're coming down from SC then Rome is on the other side of the state up I-75. If you just keep on going down I-85 through Atlanta where it runs with I-75 and then continue on I-75 about 40 miles you'll be at Thomaston (Skydive ATL). They've got a nice Super Otter. If you don't get to jump with Mouth, you'll be certain to at least hear her.

Don't be such a snob. I had my first 182 jump this winter (Feb?) and have since gotten a couple more. The key to jumping from a 182 is not to do a student exit. You have to do something more fun. Sitflying is easy, especially if you sit next to the pilot. I always get out facing the rear of the plane. If I'm belly flying I'll get out on the step and let the wind blow me over 135 degrees and I'm instantly flying belly to earth in the relative wind. Mouth, I'm about twice your size and don't have any door issues on the 182. Don't get me wrong, I love the Super Otter, but enjoy an occassional Cessna jump too. You probably had some sort of asymetry with your legs or arms. Back flying is something that you need to learn if you like to sitfly with other people and you find yourself too low. Instead of rolling between belly and back you might try doing a half flip. I think it would tend to put you in more of a symetrical position. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I was really planning to be down in Thomaston this Saturday, but the weather was crap, so I didn't make the 98 mile drive down there. Yesterday I had to be back home by 5pm, and since the weather was crap in the morning I couldn't make the drive down. I did drive up to Atlanta Air Sportz in Rome yesterday. I didn't have lots of time, but I did get in two jumps. Things are really starting to happen up at that DZ since Ron and Sandor took it over. I even won a free jump from their monthly website drawing. They are going to be open for business Wednesday up in Rome. Only think cheap about the Hornet is the price. They tend to sell for about $900 new. They are definitely easy to pack with the coded lines and the not-so-slippery ZP fabric. I've heard people who have flown both Sabres and Hornets say that they have similar flight charcteristics. Were did you get the idea that they were low quality?
