  1. Good Stuff is by far the best value. I also have Crosswind which I like very much, but it is $50. I also have the Flyboyz Pary Mix, which is OK, but I don't like the flow (or lack thereof) and it's just more of the same by the end. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  2. I've been jumping my own gear since jump #14. I started looking around while I was still on student status. Part of the reason I started looking as early as I did was that I'm bigger than your average skydiver (6'3" 205lbs) so there isn't as much used gear out there that is appropriate for me. I ended up buying a new rig: Dolphin container, Hornet 190, Tempo 210, and CYPRES from Roy at http://www.para-service.com for about $3200. All of the riggers at my DZ recommended the Dolphin, especially for new jumpers. They are inexpensive and quite durable for those (ocassional?) not so perfect landings. 3. Congrats! I managed to get a Double Falcon one day when one of the experienced jumpers asked if I was doing something on the next load. He then found two others and made the same query. We ended up having a beautiful dive and turning 9 or 10 points, would have been more had I not brain locked in a couple spots, but still good enough. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  4. Looks like you didn't treat my buddies from the US CReW team very well.
  5. The Z1's are very popular at my DZ. I have one and haven't had any issues with it openning even during a stand. I was happy I had it when the otter clocked me on the jaw (severe turbulence) on exit once. The visor on the Z1 flips back completely, although I normally keep mine closed until I land. I haven't had any fogging issues with it either. I've seen very few people juming A3's, about the only ones I've seen are from people on Sky Systems' sponsored teams. They are horribly expensive. 6. I was only planning on a 4th person if I had the 182. Have to go light on the baggage even with 3 in the 172. Depending on when you are going we might be able to fly up in formation if you are interested. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  7. Yeah, if we end up with a 172 we've already discussed packing lightly and making a couple of fuel stops on the way. The useful load on my homebuilt is about 700 lbs, and it's just a 2-seater. Why can't certified planes be like this! The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  8. According to the WFFC website the airport is closed from 7:30-20:30 local during the boogie. I was planning on either flying in outside these hours, or flying to another airport close by with car rental, since Broken and Bird wanted to stay off the airport. We were also planning on flying up to Chicago for a few days (on the 4th or 5th) and then flying down to Quincy for several more days, returning to Atlanta on the 12th. I had been trying to get a 182 to fly in, but the one I was going to get is on leaseback and the owner flys it alot (it's almost never rented to anybody else but me). Right now I'll take whatever I can get that will take the 3 of us. The flight school where I'm doing my instrument rating might rent me a Cherokee or 172. 9. No luck on a 4th traveler yet. This might not be a bad thing since it seems more likely I'll get something that can really only carry the 3 of us. Hoping to get something worked out soon. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  10. Do they know you skydive, or did you just spring it on them after dinner? The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  11. Yeah, I made him do some kung fu visualization exercises with me.
  12. I had to share this story. Last week one of my Chinese friends calls me up and asks "Do you still go skydiving on the weekends?". I told him that I did. "I want to go skydiving", he said. "When do you want to go?", I asked. "Next month", he replied. "Why don't you go this weekend, it's my 1st skydiving anniversary?" "OK, can I stop by your house and borrow some of your skydiving videos?" "Sure, why?" "I need to prepare my mind and body for skydiving." I thought this was funny. When he came by later that day I actually walked him through the entire jump including all the preparations beforehand. I loaned him one of my other buddy's 1st jump video and "Good Stuff". I may also get another one of my friends to join him on a 1st jump this weekend. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  13. Sounds like this guy is more than a little biased, and also not familar with some of the rigs (i.e. the Dolphin 2000). For what it is worth, I had 4 riggers at my DZ recommend a Dolphin 2000 knowing full well that I would freefly with it. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Good luck, Lisa. Be safe and have some fun. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  15. I think you have the answer. If the skydivers are scared we'll just serve peanuts and soda on the way to altitude. If we want to make it really interesting we could serve baked beans.
  16. For some of us, wearing a shirt is the polite thing to do. You really don't want to see us half naked. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  17. I'm told the name comes from the fact that this is rarely successful. Folks tend to collide and end up groping each other like horny gorrillas in the collision. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  18. I don't think you'll see too much disagreement. If people can't make a living then the DZ is going away. Getting coaching from a top notch skydiver is different from having to pay a USPA rated coach to do what other skydivers used to do for free. Think of it this way, you just got off student status. You've just spent $1-2k, but you can now jump for allot less then before, jump with your more experienced friends (that you probably made as a student), etc. Now you can no longer do that, you have to keep on shelling out the big dollars till you get your A license. You've now gone from 7 high dollar jumps to 20. How many people can't afford this additional needless expense? I'm glad that none of the experienced jumpers at the two DZ's I normally frequent are unwilling to teach the newbies. I know this isn't true everywhere. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  19. I can see the movie now "Fast Times at Thomaston, Georgia" loosing your virginity at 188mph! The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  20. After hearing a couple complaints from other skydivers for having a little fun in the jump plane this weekend, I started wondering. How many skydivers out there are afraid of flying? Seems like any deviation form the normal standard takeoff, climb, jump really scares allot of jumpers. I was speaking to a flight instructor who used to be a jump pilot and he seemed to think the majority of us are afraid of flying. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  21. I got a brand new rig at an awesome price from Roy at www.para-service.com. I know several other folks have also bought his affordable rigs with good success. I got a Dolphin, Hornet main, Tempo reserve, and CYPRES. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  22. You could bring the kiddies and educate them on how mature people behavior. Of course, this would be by negative example.
  23. [The Dutchboy opens a huge can of worms and asks a question] Do you think that having the USPA run primarily by DZO's (or should I use the PC term Group Members) is at least partially responsible for this? A great example of this is the new ISP. No longer can you graduate from student status to start learning from your friends. Now you are expected to pay a "coach" to finish you up. I've heard a few comments from AFF JM's saying they don't know why anybody would go through all that crap, when you can do alot less to be a "coach" and teach people who already have the basic skills. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  24. Ahhh... corrupting the innocent. Sounds like something a school teacher would do.
