Until the USPA comes out with an instrument rating for skydivers, and wants to equip all of us with transponders, and 2-way radios (what the hell, how about TCAS too), I'll stay out of the clouds. Popping through a thin cloud isn't dangerous (or even illegal). Jumping at a new DZ without being able to see the ground till your under canopy is a bit scary. Sounds like fun. BTW, what happened to the frog? Depending on how you make your way toward FL and what time of the week you are passing through this way you might stop at Atlanta AirSportz which is off of I-75 NW of Atlanta http://www.airsportz.com. If you are coming that way you can also hit some TN DZ's. You might drop by Skydive Atlanta in Thomaston, also off I-75, but SW of Atlanta http://www.skydiveatlanta.com. I don't think I need to mention the DZ you definitely shouldn't stop by on your way through the state. Now if you want to go in style, the Dutchboy needs to build some flight time! I could be your flying whore for several weeks for about $25/hr (around $0.25/mile). I need to fly about 70-80 hrs over the next month or so. We should both fit in a 2-seater that could be had for $50/hr or $25/hr each. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Looks like Freeflier29, BrokenEagle, and myself are de-manifesting for the trip. It looks like there would be nearly 100% chance of us getting stuck trying to fly back. What really sucks is that if it where the following weekend we could probably do it. I've been signed off to take my instrument rating checkride, but can't get it done before the weekend. Cool! The observer ride is probably a good start. That way she won't do what my whyffo did, and chicken out at the door. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I don't have any. Probably won't be getting them either. If you are thinking of say being an airline pilot some day then this could be a career limiting move. That's assuming your tat was visible. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Are you a veteran of the wreck.skydiving wars? The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

1. Atlanta Air Sportz: because the people there (staff & jumpers) are cool, and the landing area is huge. Constantly improving facilities and jump planes. 2. Skydive Atlanta: where I learned to skydive. Super Otter full time, awesome facilities. 3. Irish Parachute Club: some really cool people, and the only sheep in the world that look up! No, you aren't sick. Especially given the typical weather you have there in Ireland. Kind of ironic isn't it. The country is so beautiful because it rains all the time, yet you often can't enjoy it because of the rain! The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I'm glad I didn't fly in to IPC. That would have required the Irish smile treatment.

I've used tube stows for the last 100 jumps or so on my rig. They do actually break. In that time I have had one of them break so far. I don't know how much faith I'd put in one rig designer making sweeping statements about how other rig designers want you to use their equipment. I could definitely say that most rigs out there were not designed with freeflying in mind (not at the time of original design at least), yet we aren't told not to freefly with the rigs. Based on my understanding of physics, I don't think the stow needs to break. Unlike the band, the lines are more likely to roll out of the stow rather than getting caught somehow. My profs at Purdue never cancelled a class! Of course, I was in grad school, which might be a little different. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Glad that you lived through the experience. I hope that the pain goes away for you soon, and wish you a speedy recovery. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us as well. There is no such thing as too much knowledge. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Wind tunnel for Atlanta freeflight festival?

I've got one too. It is about to be retired. My pool might even be closed by November, so I'll try to bring mine as well. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra -
Yeah, what he said. We'll be flying in a plane with tail number N5419R. I hesitate to suggest a place and time to meet, since I never made it to the designated place at Quincy. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

If by some miracle we don't lose the raft next month at the Casa boogie, I'll bring it with me to this boogie as well. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra -
I'd say it is beerable. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I'm pretty sure she isn't dating Broken Eagle. I'm sure Faye could confirm that! I'm pretty sure she is AC not DC. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I think the biggest reason she insisted on new is that I tried to buy a used rig from a guy in CA. Rigger took one look at it and said I would have surely died had I jumped it. Was definitely not as advertised. I guess some skydivers from that state don't care about others, only getting some money. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Having spent some time driving in the UK (that's pronounced uck), I wouldn't even think about riding a bike there. The fatality rate for bikers there is huge. They might also make you do stupid things to the bike like change some of the lenses so everything is the right color, etc. Not only is the shipping expensive, you should see how long it will take to ship the bike over there. If the weather is good enough for us to fly up and back, Clay and I should be getting there some time Saturday morning, and probably leaving Monday morning. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I have a Dolphin 2000, which has better bridle protection that the Javelins that most seem to fly. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

As others have already said, it depends on what you want. I bought all new gear because I'm bigger than your average skydiver, and my whyffo insisted on it. I did get a new rig with a ZP main, reserve, and CYPRES for about $3200. You don't neccessarilly have to buy somebody else's used stuff to save money. My rig is more freefly friendly than what most freefliers seem to use (Javelin). The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Last year I had only been off student status for a few weeks, so they will take anybody! It should be lots of fun this year. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
