    goodby

Don't leave because of a few isolated people. This place has grown into a huge community and there are folks who are bound not to get along. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  5. You can launch a 4-way from a Cessna 182. Sometimes it is nice to get a ride up in a turboprop though. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  6. Atlanta Air Sportz in Rome, GA and Skydive Atlanta in Thomaston, GA. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  7. Just read the latest update from AOPA. The FAA is blaming others in the government for the lack of GA flights at this time. It seems that they are terrified at the thought of flights that they cannot control. Flying my Cessna 150 around the sky doesn't pose much of a threat. It holds about the same amout of gas as my car, and fully loaded still weighs less than a Geo Metro (empty). I wonder how much longer the underpaid pilots and flight instructors in this country are going to be unable to work. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  8. Yes, everything that is not an airline flight is "General Aviation". It is possible to be GA and still commercial. Jump planes are comercial operations that are part of GA, as are business who fly their own aircraft, charter flights, etc. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  9. They must be using the NOTAM issued at 5am that said the airpace would open at 11am, and have not received the NOTAM put out at 10:57am saying no GA operations were permitted. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  10. Mike, four planes, all on flight plans (as required by law) were hijacked and deviated signficantly from their flight plans. This went unnoticed for how long? Filing a flight plan has allways been optional for VFR pilots. Inside controlled airspace, where both incidents took place, pilots are in contact with controllers. Requiring a flight plan for every flight would do nothing but overwork ATC personel making it easier for deviations to go unnoticed. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  11. You can't just leave the country even in a GA aircraft. By keeping GA on the ground they are adding to the problems of the comercial airlines, since those who could relieve some of the pressure by not flying commercially are not permitted to do so. GA does not means it is all just for fun, just not a regularly scheduled commercial operation. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  12. Guess again, look at this NOTAM issued 5 minutes before the airspace openned. 10:55 AM EDT Notice From the GA Desk at ATCSCC GA OPERATORS NOT TO ENTER ATC SYSTEM UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE No that doesn't mean Georgia, it is General Aviation of which skydiving is included. For some unknown reason, the FAA is descriminating against the rest of us, who had absolutely nothing to do with this evil act. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  13. Glad to hear that you and everyone else on your flight made it home safely. Had you taken the next flight it will have certainly filled the plane, making things even more tragic. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  14. I think doctoring yourself into this photo is a bit sick. Did you see the people jumping to their deaths from the building before it collapsed? The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  15. I still can't believe it either. I don't live in NY, but a few years ago I spent over three months working in Jersey City across the water. I can't imagine looking across the water and not seeing the WTC. I'm concerned for many of my friends who still work for that company (as does HH), because they would often work in the financial district across the river. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  16. I'd have to disagree. The main point was to kill as many innocent people as possible, but that was intended to make the rest of us live in fear. So, yes, they are attempting to change our lifestyles. I think the FAA will lift the ban today, only because of what it means to this country and our economy if this ban continues for any length of time. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  17. You might also try http://yp.bellsouth.com. Click on find people and then enter their name, or if they have a roomate, try that name. Good luck. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  18. I saw footage of some sick fucks in Palestine partying in the street over the news, while they are still claiming they had nothing to do with it. I can't imagine celebrating the death of thousands of innocent people, even if you don't like their government. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  19. Have a look at these http://www.avweb.com http://www.landings.com http://www.aopa.org The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  20. Personally, I won't sitfly in a Javelin. I've seen too much in the way of flaps and bridle flapping around with others doing so. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  21. You're offically what? Just don't let it go to your head. I guess we won't be jumping together any more now, with my lowly A license. Perhaps I should get off my lazy butt and send in for my C, but it would cost me more than a jump to do it. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  22. Funny thing about Texel. I was looking in my $100 Hamburger book, and the only entry for Holland was Texel. They said the place had a great tandemburger. So if I'm ever flying in Europe I'll have to stop there for two reasons. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  23. It's funny, when I was in London I was allways showing the natives where things were.
  24. Some of the airports are listed on the sectional charts as having a dropzone. They are indicated by a parachute symbol by the airport. These are not very accurate at all. I landed at an airport with this symbol and asked where the DZ was. They told me they hadn't jumped at that airport since the 70's. The problem is that the airport manager must file a permanent NOTAM (notice to airmen) about jumping for this symbol to show up. Now it is on the VFR charts which is lovely. It isn't mentioned to any pilot flying to that airport (such as IFR pilots), not so lovely. Last I knew the folks at Skydive Atlanta didn't have a permanent NOTAM, and therefore no symbol, and they thought it was better because ever pilot going to that airport would hear about it. So keep your eyes open. You can't really blame the pilot on a VFR cross country for not knowing about your parachuting activities, especially if your jump pilot doesn't communicate on the local traffic frequency (his bad!). It is not unusual for a pilot to fly from one airport to the next and fly directly over the center of each airport. Unless he has flight following, which is not required, and not allways available to him, he might have no clue that you are falling all around him. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
  25. That reminds me of something I noticed last weekend. I was flying up to Chatanooga, TN on an instrument flight plan. I was talking to ATC because I was flying IFR, and it was instrument conditions. I was shocked to hear pilots from a local DZ (you can guess which one!) telling ATC they had jumpers away. The visibility was less than 2 miles in haze on the ground, worse in the air. You couldn't see shit through that, yet some greedy DZO was dropping King Air loads.
