Almost went flying today, but the surface winds were gusting to 25 knots (not down the runway) here, and the winds aloft were about 40 knots! The FSS person said there wasn't anything to prohib us, but that we should expect delays. This and the wind was enough to have me flying the simulator on the ground. OK, so maybe it is a little funny. Especially the stuff after the song. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

How long have these guys been off the air? The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I have a friend who is being forced to relocate to Dallas. Perhaps you could give him something to look forward to? He is not at all happy leaving Atlanta. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Why only the small arms? Give her something more useful like an ICBM. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Don't listen to her kung fu teacher. Just look at the bruises on her fellow kung fu students.

I have heard several people suggest that you wait a week or two. That will give the blood donation centers time to restock on their supplies, etc. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I really hate to agree with the two of you, but I like it too. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Oh yeah, and we have four DZ's serving metro Atlanta. Although, I would definitely steer clear of at least one of them. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

What computer languages does he know? Even though I'm unemployed, I still know people in Atlanta looking for junior folks. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Good point! There is nothing neccessary about skydiving, it is purely fun aviation. I do think there might be some therapuedic value in jumping, however. Hopefully the pause in jumping won't be too long for that reason. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Too funny. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever make it to Texas. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I don't want to get into how autopilots work, but they don't seem to work the way everyone who suggests this scenario think they do. The only mode in which an autopilot would hone in on a target like that is if it was equipped to follow an ILS approach. This would require two antennas set up in the exact right manner on the ground. It would be much easier and effective to just load up a truck, and skip the airplane. While everyone is throwing out scenarios, why don't you just have people buy the cruise missles. After all, you have them buying $340k aircraft. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I hope the plane at least had a parking brake! Trying to fly with the toe brakes applied would be hard. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I'm surprised that nobody has considered making everyone file an ADIZ flight plan (or whatever it is called). You have to file this type of plan if you are crossing the border. If you make everyone file IFR you're going to see a good number of flights that don't even qualify as cross country. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

That's if you believe what the FAA has to say anymore. Definitely won't be any jumping this weekend. I was scheduled to have my checkride for my instrument rating on Tuesday. I doubt it will happen. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

You can make up scenarios all day, but the probability of such a thing is so small. First you need to find a 206, and the 1500 lbs of ANFO, etc, etc. You aren't going to find that many small planes with a 3-axis autopilot, especially one that could be programmed for such a flight. It's just plain ignorance that is keeping all of us grounded right now. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Good point, Mike. I forgot about the "rich" owners of those companies. OK, only rich relative to the pilots/instructors at poverty level or below. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Congrats! Just make sure they grow up to be skydivers. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

OK, I think I have a vague picture. Trying to remember how far forward the wheels are on a 180. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

It is sad. I was out last night with a friend of mine. He is British, but born in Iraq. When deciding where to eat last night, he actually threw out a couple options because he thought there would be more rednecks there, and possible trouble. He actually has a better attitude than most about it. He realizes it is natural for people to be suspicous of Arabs that they don't know at the moment. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Why do you jump for so low. I always jump from at least 60,000 feet, you know, where the class A airspace stops! The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
