anything with a tailgate (allthouth I'll take a fast S. Otter over a slow Skyvan if it means 1 or 2 more jumps in a day)..... the favorite of the ones I've jumped: the AN 72..... Remi Muff 914

a old friend jumped from a 13 floor building in MTL (video to prove it). For any montrealers, it was La Tour des Vierges at U de M. Remi Muff 914

Will: STOP pushing for Hinton! are you on commision dammit! the boy asked about rigging, not training! Remi Muff 914

then just arch! lol seriously, at your heigh and weight, with a normal suit, you should have tremendous range, maybe a tigh-ish suit would help (spandex forearms, no wing), but with body position alone, you should be OK.... I'm 6'2 and 230lbs, and I need a big ass flappy suit.... Remi Muff 914

what kinda suit do you wear? How tall are you? just from the weight, it surprises me that you have floating problems.... lucky bugger! Remi Muff 914

Of course its insanity! Think about it.. they jump from perfectly serviceable antennas... Remi Muff 914

PC in tow due to tight main pack job??
RemiAndKaren replied to RemiAndKaren's topic in Gear and Rigging
A while ago, I remember (but cant find) that we had a discussion about the possibility of a main pack job being so tight that it could cause a PC in tow... I challenged it, but got a few comments back saying it was a possibility , so I let sleeping dogs lie... Well, just got the lastest Skydiving, and there goes TK Donle explaining that the tightest RW was able to pack their Vector caused a pull force of about 15 pounds.... way below what any PC would create (80 pounds was quoted for a standard one)... in summary, if you close it by hand, it will open. So there you go... I'm waking up the sleeping dogs... If you have a PC in tow (I'm not atlking about hesitations here), its probably a rigging/packing error. Remi Muff 914 -
I've only been to St Cats for the Provincials there in .. 98 I think (it was also their something-or-another big birthday)???? By the way, its the oldest Canadian DZ (again, I think). I wouldnt call it a small DZ... more like a regular canadian DZ... (yes, it sucks being north of the border...). Give it a try (or at least call on them to check em out... its close!) Fine place during the competition and boogie... We werent allowed inside duing the boogie coz there were too many people, so I cant really comment on the facilities... There also is SWOOP which probably be closer to you then Barrie. Went there to jump 1 day, nothing bad to say, but didnt stay long enough to have anything to say really. Limited facilities back then. Grand Bend might also be an option. They had a biggish plane back then... Never jumped, but visited on a windy day. Really nice facilities if I remember correctly. Our home was Markham Skydiving (which is not in Markham, but quite a bit north of it), which for you isnt any closer (in fact, its further then Barrie), plus there have been loads of changes there since, and most of the folks I knew there have left... All this info is a couple of years old, so treat it as such! lol... also, I never took any instructing in Ontario (well, I did my Coach 2 there, but the course conductors were a couple of annoying people from alberta.. jk John and Nesta...) so I cant really comment on the quality of the instructing from personal experience. Hope this helps, Remi Muff 914

I've got 2 songs that are synonymous with skydiving in my mind.. Never There, by Cake (really funny to sing yourself that song on a big way if your in the base and 1 or 2 people overswoop! lol) and Fruitcake by Jimmy Buffet (just coz it played all the time at the Muff Bros tent the 1st Quincy I went to in 94, and now that song means Skydiving to me...) Never been to the herc boogie, but friends went to the a few and apparently, weather can be tricky during that time in Sweden, and they didnt do nearly as many jumps as they wanted.... Another herc option is http://www.exoticskyadventures.nl/nextevent.htm... not heavy duty jumping either. Remi Muff 914

Its been a while since the Sunshine Factory ran an add in Skydiving Mag with "Cathy's cuffs" listed in it.... Personnally, I preffer leather cuffs... That vinyl tape is cool too, non sticky, but clingy as hell! Remi Muff 914

Hi James, dont let the yanks confuse you! (instead, let this canadian do it! lol) We've been living in the UK for a couple of years now. Hinton is a fine DZ, except for the company you'll have to keep (Hi Will!) (PS: by debauchery, Clay meant things involving pooddles and sheep), especially if you want to get into freeflying. Its also not too far from London (in between Banburry and Brackley, home of the BAR racing team). They had a rigger on site on the weekends when we were going there.... I think I have her phone number, let me know if you want it. Further up the road, there's Langar (close to Nottingham). IMHO, great DZ for flat flyers (its our home now, even with the 2 hour drive to get there). A few riggers there on the weekend, but the "official" dz rigger (rigger examiner in fact), John, is always there on weekends unless they're in Spain. Great guy (so is his son Phil who also works with him), great job. I do have his number, ask and you shall receive. Closer to home, there is a rigger in Farborough (Hants). Never used his services, but a friend does for his tandem equipment. Again, I have his number if you want it. As a last ditch effort, you could post on uk.rec.skydiving Remi Muff 914

Relax man.... most if not all of us failed one or more of our PFF/AFF/SL progession jumps...... what you need to remember is to relax and practice the turns on the ground. All basic moves are small, controled, smooth inputs. Remember: slow is smooth and smooth is fast. And that last jump, wasted????? I'd rather say congrats on you first cross country! Remi Muff 914

Hi Magic, I'm not doubting what your saying, but a bit curious: it took about 1000 foot on a hop and pop? quick rule of thumbs maths: for freefall, you get to terminal velocity in about 12 sec and it takes about 1000 (more or less) feet (bare with me on the roughness of the estimates). Considering you will never reach term velocity on a hop and pop, 12 sec to 1000 is a worst case. Are you sure it took more then 12 seconds for the canopy to open? Remi Muff 914

I would tell the rig manufacturer/dealer that your getting a Cobalt 120 (as opposed to saying its like a stiletto 120). If they make a mistake on the sizing, then its their problem.... Remi Muff 914

I had a revelation in the shower this AM (no I didnt loose any sleep, just had this pop-up thought). I think the reason Clay in convinced that it makes a big diff in strong winds, is the relative importance of the slow down caused by the PC vs. ground speed. i.e. (number are just to explain my thoughts) In a no wind day, airspeed = groundspeed = 25kph (for exemple) Speed loss due to PC drag = 2.5 kph, or 10% of groundspeed in a high wind day, say 20 kph winds airspeed = 25 kph ( that doesnt change) groundspeed = 5 kph PC drag = 2.5 kph, or 50% of ground speed.
