  2. PS: thanks to every one who let me used their rigs for the rest of the weekend.... yayaya, I know.. just had a mal, and jumping borrowed rigs, that's asking for it!! lol, but surely these FX 99 cant be that different from my Stileto 170..... Remi Muff 914
  3. I think so.. I've peaked over the security area a few times and it looks similar... I think they must use some sort of interpretation to add colors to material of different densities... Remi Muff 914
  4. Hi Dove, get better soon! Good lesson for any skydiver... even us flat flyers! quite a few people have been hit by divers on RW loads and either managed to land by their own means, or had their Cypres save their lives, or sadly killed. Some divers can hit 300 MPH.... PS: Karen and I had a great expereince with L&B too.... Remi Muff 914
  5. Is it yours then Marc? Remi Muff 914
  6. The real funny part was that we got to 14K and I though: Great! Extra altitude
  7. No pants have been wetted, and the story is posted... And yes, it sure was nice to jump on Monday Will!!! lol Remi Muff 914
  8. Hi all, Since this weekend had a few incident, I'll share mine too... you never know who it might benefit. First: no one was hurt and no plane damaged in the making of the incident (except a spider who was in the plane on the ride to altitude...). It was a 10 way out of a Cessna Caravan. That particular plane had a roll up Plexiglas door and a floating handle on the inside of the door. The handle is a pretty good diameter size, which makes the incident more puzzling... On me: I'm tall (6'2"), Reflex rig First, what I felt: I was first diver from behind the red line. On the count, started to walk to the door, and dove out. As I was passing though the door, I felt I hit my back on the edge of the door (the way the float handle is positioned, it would have been it that I hit). I felt some resistance, but nothing extremely out of the ordinary. Anyways, I get out of the door start my dive, and feel a tug from behind, look up , and see a yellow canopy starting to inflate, look down, see my friends falling away, look up again, see the plane flying away and my reserve fully inflated.... so really, it took about a second from the dam thing to open and me to see what had happened. What the video showed As I exited the plane, the camera guy was filming the divers, and kept his focus on me (wonder why!!!). From the video, as I am passing the door you can see that instead of diving, my upper body is actually being made to straighten up (as the rig is caught on the bar). As soon as I finally break free (still my lower body in the plane) my reserve pilot chute come out and starts doing its job. It literally took about 1 to 2 second from that point until full deployment. Nothing hit the plane (canopy, me or free bag) and nobody hit me or the reserve. What happened: as I dove, I was not bent down enough (a Caravan is not a very tall plane, and tall fat bastards like me need to crouch pretty low to get through) the float handle either found a way to fit under the pop top, or at the very least, managed to push on the edge of the said pop top enough to rip it off. The closing loop was broken (300lb strength Cypress loop) and the reserve pin was bent in the process. The Pop top was tight. We (my rigger and I) had tightened it a couple of weeks before (they tend to loosen up after each repack of the reserve as the reserve settles in). The incident really was not nerve wracking at all... It happened so fast, and by the time I realized what was happening, I had seen the other jumpers fall past me without anybody hitting me, and I saw the plane fly away, so I knew no one and nothing was hurt by my premature. So the first thought that can to my mind was FUCK.. SHIT.... missing a jump... Things could have been A LOT worse, but they weren't.... Lesson learnt: bend down !!!!! Each type of equipment has advantages and draw back: a pop top has very secure reserve pin(s), but an exposed pilot chute than can be caught up on something. Remi Remi Muff 914
  9. Man Ramon, what are the odds! Lost mine too this Sunday.... Cought the pop-top on the float handle from a diving exit and the pressure from me and the rest of the divers behind me ripped the pop top off (actually the closing loop was broken and I ended up under my reserve at 14,000)... 10. Takes about 2 to 3 days to get used to driving on the other side.. and in a couple month its second nature.... At least with a car though, you "feel" that you need to be on the other side of the road, even if there is no traffic around you... I can easily imagine someone getting on a bike and forgetting he's in england! But that souldn't bother HH too much with his commonwealth origins! Remi, the guy from the commonwealth contry that drive on the normal side of the road Remi Muff 914
  11. I actually saw the news footage on TV this AM the guy was in deed flying a motorized paraglider. Hi plan was to land on the torch and bungee off it. But he botched his landing and he ended up dangling on the side of the torch with his canopy stuck on the torch it self. he wasnt able to get out of his "predicament" by himself, so he waited there until the authorities "helped" him out... 12. I think the closest DZ to Kissemee is Lake Wales, and we realy had agreat times "most" of the times we went. Facilities are awsome. I say most cuz the place is suffering from FTO: Florida Turbine Overpopulation..... too many big DZs have appeared in the last 5 years, and its thinning the number of jumpers at each IMHO.. Remi
  13. Is that whishfull thinking on your part Omri, or are you gonna start making alot a jalous guys ? lol Remi
  14. LOL... my worst spot ever was at the Alberta provioncials... the plane had GPS, so being competition, we didnt do a whole lot of spot checking when we got out (we were the last 4 way out of 4 teams out of the Otter)... But, the GPS had broken down, and in the wisdom of the competition organisers, they decided to spot the plane from the ground.... Now, if this had been the really good old days when ground to air video was used, fine, I'd accept that, but for goodness sake! this was in the late 90's with then standard air to air!!!!!! Needless to say, I had a 30 to 45 minute walk to get back.... Remi
  15. Has a non brit UK resident, here's my view: Brits love their bikes.... and their leathers! I'd say 80% of all the people I see on bikes wear full leathers with racing boots..... and the crazy MFs ride when its rains too... That being said, lots or bikes here, mostly pocket rockets. You'll probably need to get the bike checked by the authorities and have a couple of mods to fit the local antiquated laws (WAIT!! I forgot, the US also uses antiquated measurments in miles).. it might be simpler then coming from Canada.... Remi PS: I dont have a bike (with an engine that is...)
  16. I Know its not Remi! (and I hope the IT police didnt sniff that attachement when I downloaded it!)
  17. Damm!!! we were there last year.. nice memories! Thx HH
  18. Finally!!!!! Long weekend starting tomorow in the UK, and the weather (i'm not going to say it too loud to not empt the evil gods of weather) is looking good! http://www.onlineweather.com/v4/uk/city/Nottingham.html
  19. Our CSPA licences were, but they were C and B I dont see why a A shouldnt. fire off an email to the DZs your planning to visit (the boys and girls at Langar and Hinton in the UK are pretty good with emails, the others I've never tried) just to make sure...
  20. Yea..... the really funny part was after he "landed" (allthough I think touched-down might be more appropriate) he gets half up and yells "I'm OK.. I'm OK.... i fucked up...."
  21. lets hope this doenst start a new contry's war! actually, The UK just went through a licence change and the licences under the new system started at 10-something.
  22. Pam! I sure hope that in the face of the distress caused by not having access to your honey's toes (cast and all), you ended up ... .never mind..... my mind sure is in the gutter today! lol
  23. This skin breathing thing is from an old... very old FAQ that ran on the afn Skydive! Archive (when that site was pretty much it for info on skydiving)... It has a whole bunch of info, some true, some completely obviously false (someone's good idea for a joke), and some like this one that has managed to seep into the realm of urban legends.... this skin osmosis theory actually was used in a TV documentary on one of the major networks in the US about 1 or 2 years ago!!! Our job, as proud skydivers, is to continue the tradition and say: yep, clouds will kill, remember to take a deep breath from the flaps of your checks before you get into it... Remi
  24. Let me be Anal here.... RW is the old name for it. It officially is called FS (formation skydiving). I still call it RW...
