  1. "feed junk to kids" .... there's the issue.. right there... and good for you, for removing such poison from your families mealtime regiment.... First..... shut down and shutter!!!!! every McDonalds restaurant ON the Planet!!!! Turn them into local community excersize rooms..... and all the other places like Mickey Dees, who make it "quick and easy " for people to glutton down, all sorts of overly salty, overly fat full, and overly useless calories,,, under the guise of "fast food".... Fast ? maybe so... food? technically,, i guess it is... But Nutrition??? i think not... healthy? hell No.. Cost effective???? no way.... people burn a 20 dollar bill for a bagful of fat , carbs, salt and sugar... Even though the corporate bigshots have started all these, "green menus " and salad choices,, and try to drive what is being touted as 'healthy food' down our throats,, the truth is.... we as a collective society are either too lazy, to ignorant, or just too plain stupid, to see that stuff for what it is... Insidious and harmful.... all wrapped up in a Big Ronald McDonald smile.... and most all other such similars places, are equally to blame for the quagmire in which we find ourselves.. but that's corporate America for ya'.... As long as the bottom line stays in the black, all the rest is just collateral damage... They claim.. " we just offer the fare, People can or can not avail themselves of it..." Problem is... we as a people have become waaaay more Dumb...despite all the warnings,,, and I can NEVER drive past a burger place without seeing a dozen cars in the parking lot, and 4 or 5 lined up in the drive through....regardless of the time of day... watch carefully, yourselves,, as you pass these places in your day to day activities... and you'll see i am not exaggerating... Overweight adults,,,, purchasing fattening food for themselves AND their kids.... tragic... and an omen of our future... That coupled with Little to NO physical excersize or outdoor, "running around" time and most of our current generation of kids, will be facing a real uphill battle... start letting. ' social services ' or ' child protectives' intervene,,, and nothing good comes out of it...except broken homes... Let the children remain with the parents,,, Who ARE responsbile to raise them,,,, only FINE the parents,, and fine them substantial $$$$$ if many or all of their offspring, are OVERLY over weight..... arghhhhh i dunno what the answer is... we ought to be ashamed of where we find ourselves, today... regarding this issue.... Decades ago,, we had no idea about HDL LDL, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc etc,,, and yet, people were not so obese.. Today we KNOW about such things, and we KNOW about the DIRECT correlation between obesity and disease, and even so, armed with THAT knowledge, we blindly march forward, allowing the worse to happen to the next generation.... sad.... One would think that our federally funded Food & Drug Administration, would be looking to the best interests of the public, and NOt the best interests of Fortune 500 companies, Big Business, and all the "Legal" drug pushers, like Pfizer. Bristol Myers, etc etc. can't our gov't show the same bravado and steadfastness of purpose that our defense dept, portrays, as we march all over the Goddamn world, dictating this and dictating that..??? let's fix the stuff here at home,,,, and only then,,, think about "expanding our influence globally"... No wonder our status, world wide has taken such a terrible beating....we have become an example of how NOT to run a country..... jt
  2. ....bonus prize..... well that goes without saying!!!! ..providing one NEEDS such a bonus... .. for me the bonus would living within a sensible drive time of so many good dz's... and if a space shuttle is taking off !!.. thats a REAL plus. Sure hope that those who get to FEEL those shuttle launches, as well as See them, never take them for granted. jt
  3. ... so these two Old guys are sitting on a park bench. One is down, and tired and in poor spirits,, the Other is bright and happy, and has a big grin on his face, so the sad guys says.." What makes you so happy'?? and the other man replies "well i have been on 3 dates this week and allll of them were soooo pleased at my performance in the sack"... " In the SACK "?? the first man says...I can't even get it UP.... How do you stay so virile..."? "Simple", the man replies... " The secret is Italian Bread". " I have a half dozen loaves a week." So the sad man quickly heads for the nearest bakery and orders FIVE loaves of bread !!!. The clerk responds by saying, " are you sure"? by the time you get to the last loaf, it will be hard..." The man says," Sheesh !! everybody knows about THIS shit... but me ".... have a good Birth Day, james T signed, james T
  4. i'd choose a few different people... twardo.... so that i could get to do a bunch of cool demos,,, especially OSHKOSH.. and then simultaneously, Laszlo, so that i could go with twardo and photograph the demo(s)..... oh yes... would not mind being Normiss for a day.... ride Harleys... Take newbies on their first tandem.... only spend (what appears to be ) about 3 days a week Working......and enjoy 4 day weekends,,,,all the time... in truth though... i'm pretty happy,, just being me.
  5. Yes. i recall hearing that water in the form of ice has been verified on the moon... which was one of the reasons why i was hoping to hear an "Affirmative !" on this test...
  6. well the news reported that we 'bombed' one of the poles,,, of the Moon last week... the idea was to stir up a bunch of debris from below the surface...( sorta like when my wife asks about the weekend at the Dz ) Then they were going to fly a probe through that debris cloud, to analyze it for the presence or lack of, WATER...... NEVER heard anything about those results.... so what's the verdict??/ was our space program, "just blowing things UP"??? for fun and curiosity??? or was this 'experiment' successful ???? inquiring minds wanna know... jimmy
  7. whoa..... time for chilling,,, i'd say... the OP was ASKING what OTHERS??? would do.... NOT whether or not the OP should do "what they wanted" OR "what the instructor said".. big difference.... so now we know that bigway votes for..... follow the instructors' "advice" and that cspencefly votes for ,,, " assessing what the instructor says,,,and THEN deciding".... ah variety.. the spice of life..... are you surprised that there are MANY ways to look at a situation??? i suppose that while still on instructor supervision, a student is better off to follow the words of said instructor..... just for the sake of continuity and soas to NOT confuse things..... BUT not ALL those with a rating are bonafide geniuses.. and ( gasp !!! ) sometimes. even a ratings holder can say something which can be questioned.... questioned by another instructor?? sure. but off and to the side, and NEVER in front of a student... questioned by an experienced jumper but NOT rating holder?? sure again,,, but again , off to the side, and in private.... Questioned by the student???? I can't see why NOT .... that is how subjects are dissected and topics are broken down, so that alll facets of the subject can be discussed...it's part of how we learn.... The OP was asking those here, ( of allll sorts of experience levels ) to chime in... Of course there will be a variety of opinions.. and the right answer for a novice, may be different from the right answer for an experienced jumper.. The Internet,,, CAN be a good source for recognizing that there are OFTEN many answers for the same question... Whether to follow one persons' advice over another, is up to the reader... I too have seen many an instructor say things, which made me scratch my head, and worse, DO things, in the course of a skydive/ canopy descent which also made me shake my head and wonder..... no one is infallible... not you, not me,, not spence.. BUT we ARE all 'sorta in this together",,, so Can't we at least,,,, TRY to play nice??? jmy uspa 9452 4 stack 930 scr scs nscr 1817
  8. harmony.... between the DZO and the staff. between the staff and the pilots. between the fun jumpers and the OTHER fun jumpers. between the instructors and the students. and..... an adherance to the BSRs and to good old plain common sense... a nearby store/deli which makes killer subs ( if the Dz doesn't have a food concession) AND which has a HUGE cooler/refrigerator stocked with a variety of beers and soft drinks...IF they deliver.....even better... have fun good luck jimmyt
  9. i would 1. deploy... probably my reserve, since i'm aad equipped AND my main snivels a bit...also that would alert any others, that you've busted the hard deck. 2. kick myself in the ass for getting SO low. 3. seriously question whether i'd wanna jump with any of the other 3,,, who ALSO have No excuse for blowing past 2 grand. STILL doing 4 way.... 4. i'd get an audible, set it, and then Pay attention to it... i recall a time when " base had altitude responsibility" in other words, if you started the dive as either base or pin, YOu HAD to accept the job of keying breakoff, in a SAFE and timely fashion...and then, you HAD to do it !!! Those later in the dive, would be trusting to the concept, that If the formation is still there,,, they can agress it... since the base would trigger a 'shake and break', AT the correct altitude... seldom see that procedure followed anymore....or even discussed.... jmy
  10. cheap and easy...... and all you have to do is BOIL Water.... get the H2O going.. salt it.... Wash thoroughly and cut into pieces, 5 or 6 potatoes, LEAVEing the skin ,, On... get them boiling for a few minutes, then add a half pound or so of elbow macaroni to the same pot..... also throw in, a good handful of parsley, either dried or fresh... cook until the pasta is done.... Overcooking the potatoes,,, is a GOOd thing here... you'll want them a bit soft... drain,,, add salt pepper and butter , to taste.... Pasta & potatoes.... cheap and tasty... jt
  11. there is a coin and stamp store, nearby, where i visit from time to time. The guy there, will sell me anything from a Morgan Silver Dollar , minted in the 1800s, ( approx $16.00 per, give or take the condition ) to an ounce of gold..... if that's what i want...( but really can't afford ) But what really makes me feel rich, is when i go in there and swap a 20 dollar bill for 15 or 16 Eisenhauer silver dollars....
  12. WFFC Quincy Illinois must have been 1996 only attended the Quincy event twice, '94 and '96. but the second visit there, i was able to make THREE 727 jet jumps.....in ONE day... got on an early lift, 'just because'... jumped with some guys from S Dakota, THEN my pals invited me onto a 10 way team to video it.... and THEN,,, at the end of the day we were dirt diving a 20 way out of an otter,,,,when a Staff member came up to our L O ( Bhudda) and said,, " hey the jet is taking off soon, for the last load, and it's only 3/4 full... Wanna put your 20 way in it???" hahaha true story.!!!! The L O replied,, " we won't have time to change our otter tickets, for jet tickets".. and the Convention Staff member said,,,"don't WORRY about THAT!!!, just get OVER THERE" so we DID... 727.... and we got it for a 16 dollar lift ticket... heaven on earth.. what a day...
  13. no and in my ENTIRE life.... I have NEVER used an ATM..... old school???? i guess...
  14. like is said earlier...."interesting" family.... soooo happy that he's OK... i wonder how long before there is a "made for television movie" about this... didn't these kids have S C H O O L today ???? 6, 8 and 9 years old??? sounds like 1st 3rd and 4th grades, to me... DON'T Tell me...... "home schooled" (just a wild guess) jmy
  15. what's really cool to me, is that they did 45 points, "in working time"...... but for the entire skydive......they did about 60 points or more.....( i lost count) nice video work... jt
  16. question is.... was there another "part" to the orginal payload? which seperated at some point...? ( hopefully 5 or 6 feet off the ground...) THEN the balloon could have ascended,, easily... AND the brothers 'tale' that "it took off with the 6 yr old inside", would have technically, been the truth.... sure hope Young Falcon Never left the ground,,,and that his brother,,,,, has a wild imagination......and a mischievous personality.... "interesting " family, to say the least, from what i have been seeing and reading... jmy
  17. yes..... sometimes the News, sometimes Cash Cab sometimes Seinfeld Re-runs sometimes all 3.. jmy
  18. check upstream, in this list of posts... shah 269 is laughing...... which prompted my reply..... j
  19. if the kid is still inside it is anything BUT funny..... TV shot of the event must be taken from a moving aircraft,,, using zoom lens video.. cause it makes it appear that the balloon is moving realllll fast... when the winds are being reported as "light".. Tough situation, maybe they can snag it with a helicopter and tether... maybe a Person, at the end of the tether with some type of grappling device.. which can be secured to the balloon, then compromise the envelope by knife.. to bleed off the helium... allowing the deflating balloon to be "held" by the tether.... lower the whole mess , carefully to the ground.... would rather see some sorta controlled descent,,,, instead of just letting it , "come to the ground" on it's own...gravity can be nasty..... if you can't control it... yikes..... jt
  20. proper packing and good gear maintenance should prevent such a scenario..... but since shit happens... thinking about such an issue ahead of time is quite helpful,,,,, should we ever be faced with it... as for "the container stays closed", with a PCIT..... yes hopefully... decades ago. I had a PCIT on a rig with a bellyband mounted pilot chute pouch... ( Huh?? well yes,, it was before legstrap pouches and waay before BOCs...) i had twisted the B band while gearing up and so when i deployed... The bridle pulled, shear, THROUGH the twist, and the Pin DID extract..... i was head down and feet down, and was spinning, since the Pc was "tied up " at my hip.... wasted NO time thinking about the R 3 cutaway hardware... since it would have only contributed more problems to the situation.. I DID take the moment to get flat and stable...FELT the extracted D Bag, hit me on the back of my legs, and pulled a blast handle,,,, immediately... sending a round 26 foot lopo, UP and through the mess... only then saw what had happened,,, reeled in the main D bag, stuffed it between my legs, and flew the reserve to a safe landing.... cutting away, would have wasted time, and been a bad move, since the top of the canopy was STILL tied to my hip... learned ALOT that day,, today????? if it happened??? flat and stable,, pull silver... END the freefall, then deal with ANything having to do with the main,,, as needed... tough situation. Check your gear. learn from the experiences of others... be very specific in the routing of your PC bridle...and Cock your pilot chute.... That is all....... jmy A 3914 D 12122
  21. the rear floater step sure looks like a foot could get hung up in it... seems to be more of a bar, than a step.... Is that some type of handle??? up near the flap??? not sure i like that,,, from the point of interfering with the container of anyone exiting from the step.... " if it ain't broke??? why "fix " it ??" jmy

    The Dude

THANX !!! Spence.... that was f%#*in' great !!!!
  23. right...but i wasn't worried about corrupting the kids... i was worried about the adults, using that as a 'reason' to have a child , or two, or a few and with, what THEY think , are good intentions..... so babies here, babies there, babies everywhere.... Which then need to be raised.. and educated, and housed and fed..... .where is the part of the program that realisticly 'warns' parents of the severity, the effort, the major responsibilities which such a job entails.... too much govt. "heartwarming optimism"... 500 bucks compounded at todays low interest rates, even over 10 or 15 years....still isn't enough... MAYBE the kids will follow the intended lead, and continue to add to the savings plan.... which could be good, but all the while the parents may be scrimping just to get by, and to raise their children... The parents may not "tap" those funds,,but they damn sure would WANT to... and it doesen't matter anyway... cause once the Dollars totals grow HIGH enough, accross the totals of the whole program, the Government WILL be "johnny on the spot" to be the ones to step in, to tap it, right quick !!! In order to finance social security...or medicare or some other damn thing... hahaha This from the same sorta financial experts, who wanted to put allll the social security money into the stock market,,,,,, oh back about 2 years before the whole financial world,,,,,, tanked.... damn...they should just give me back the actual dollars which i paid and which were paid on my behalf by my various employers, over the years,,,, and let me walk away... Even though the amounts i paid were low year to year, and based on wages of the times,,, I HAVE been paying Soc. sec TAX,,, for over 40 years now.....so it's a FEW dollars and HEY!!!! i was born...!!! what about a retroactive clause in this new idea.. Maybe then,, i could get behind it..... jmy A 3914 D 12122
  24. i don't like it.... sounds like a 'reward' , for procreating..... if a person wants a 'trust fund' or savings plan for their offspring... LET them do it themselves.... How???? well Duh!!,,, WORK.... earn something.. and then ( here's the important part ) don't SPEND it all,, or spend MORE than what's earned... it's simple arithmetic... earn $$$ spend less than THAT amount, = savings.. any incentive for having more kids makes no sense at all..... and WHO is gonna oversee this idiocy???? The Government!!!!.. hahahah... sure... That'll work. ineptitude abounds, and it's getting the better of common sense... let 'em fix all the other screwy programs first,,, before "funding " this...... you'll wind up with parents who are poorer than their kids,,,, and kids, " cashing in",, when they are of age to "USE the funds,,," and figuring "whew,,, Now we have it made"... crazy idea..... jmy
  25. I have a VHS tape which i purchased maybe 25 years ago... It has a small silver label on it which says, "Photo-Chuting Enterprises" , and a mailing address from Hawthorne CA. as well as a phone number , in the 213 area code it is a great tape, and includes Masters of the Sky, Sky Capers, Skydive, and Wings...footage of the United states freefall team, with a young BJ Worth,,, filmed by Boenish and Randy DeLuca... Some really good 16 way diamond jumps, out of what looks like a Lockheed Lodestar... could have been filmed in Coolidge.... there is also a commercial for the Minolta Maxxum 35 mm camera and a cartoon of a CREW dive, complete with a wrap, by larry deKock... I'm quite sure, that i bought it after contacting Jean Boenish, directly by phone....mailed her a payment ( this was waaay before paypal.. hell it mightta been waaay before Credit Cards!!!! ) and she mailed me the tape... NOT a bootleg.....Part of it includes some early El Capitan Jumps, with two skydivers, running off the rock,, wearing conventianal skydiving gear,, doing about 7 or 8 seconds,,, followed by canopies and a piercing,,,," Yodel-Ay-E- O !!!!" worthy of the swiss alps... i still enjoy watching it, and the MUSIC from that DC 3 big way. really sticks in my head... How did it get onto U Tube ??? i wonder?? jimmy
